I don't think they look alike just IMO but I don't think better coverage would have helped, she went to the store at 7pm not at midnight or anything. |
I dont think they look alike at all. Sadly, it is to the point where it isnt safe for a young woman to go anywhere alone at any time. This is the point the sheriff made yesterday. It should not be this way...but it is where we are 
As for media coverage...what can be said? People go missing every day...it is the rare case that gets the headlines.

the sad thing about this is that she was not "alone" in terms of at a dark gas station with no one around. Target is busy, there are ppl all over the place and it was broad daylight. We can't say that ppl should not go to work or to the big stores at 4 or 7 pm alone. Sadly there are these rare cases and imo this one is very rare where some freak has not only the sick mind but the brazenness to do it in daylight with others around.

Apparently the final tip with name came in yesterday afternoon, seems like someone did not want to call in but murder was over the top. His mug shot is bizarre..he looks like an alien, absolutely no soul or personality showing. Not even a bad one or angry at being caught.

In that mug shot, it almost looks as if he is wearing some type of suicide prevention outfit or something.

This story is in my neck of the woods - I was out of town on vacation so I only learned of it on the way into town when it was announced that a body was found.
What other girl are you talking about?

Hall Charged With Murder, Kidnapping In Kelsey Smith's Slaying

OLATHE, Kan. -- A man accused in the abduction and slaying of Overland Park teenager Kelsey Smith is described by his neighbors as an "average guy."
Edwin R. Hall, 26, is charged with first-degree murder and aggravated kidnapping. Hall, looking tired and downcast, appeared Thursday in Johnson County Court via video feed from a jail in Gardner. He waived reading of the charges until he can hire his own attorney.
Johnson County District Attorney Phill Kline said Hall may be eligible for the death penalty.
"We will sit down, look at the evidence, go to the jurisdiction that provides the most severe penalty," Kline said.
Hall's next appearance was scheduled for June 14. He is being held in jail on $5 million bond.
Smith, 18, disappeared June 2 after shopping for a gift at Target near 97th Street and Quivira Road. The store's surveillance video shows someone running up behind Smith in the parking lot after she put her bag in her car.
Using the last pinpointed signal from Smith's cell phone, searchers found her body in a wooded area near Longview Lake on Wednesday afternoon. Police said a tip from the public led to the arrest of Hall. Police said Hall was questioned on Wednesday afternoon and was arrested a few hours later.
'Just Your Normal, Average Guy'
Neighbors told KMBC's Jere Gish that Hall moved into a home on Lincoln Street in Olathe about six months ago with his wife and 4-year-old son. People knew him as Jack.
"(He was) just your normal, average guy. (He) liked to work on cars and goof around on motorcycles and lawnmowers," neighbor Cameron Migues said.
Migues lived next door to Hall. Migues said he talked to him several times a week, and their children played together.
Migues said that his wife then saw the surveillance picture that police had released of the person of interest in the Smith case.

"She looked at the pictures and said, 'That looks like our neighbor.' We both kind of laughed it off at first, and then when I saw the pictures of the truck. I was, like, 'Well?'" Migues said. "(Then) we put two and two together."
Gish reported that Hall owned a pickup truck like the one police had been searching for.
Migues said he called authorities Wednesday morning.
"I called the TIPS Hotline and gave them the information, and a couple of hours later, there were police officers sitting here watching the house," Migues said. "I knew why they were here ... I knew what was going on."
Police have been in the neighborhood since Hall's arrest, Gish reported.
One day earlier, Migues said Hall's son had been in Migues' backyard playing with his 3-year-old son. Migues said he hasn't seen Hall's wife or son since then.
He said the men often talked about cars, noting Hall was often working on his own and other people's vehicles.
"He was an all-right guy," he said. "I had no issues with him. If he had a problem with a car he couldn't figure out, I'd go over."
"I was shocked. I was shocked," neighbor Tersa Dart said.
Dart lives across the street from Hall.
"He didn't really speak to anyone or say anything to anyone. We didn't know him well," Dart said.
Dart said she was surprised by Hall's arrest.
"He has a kid, so I didn't think he'd be capable of doing anything like that," Dart said.
Another neighbor, Harold Barry, 50, said he was surprised when he heard Hall had been arrested.
"He's a young guy. He fixed my cars. I'm very, very shocked," Barry said.
He also said Hall seemed especially close to his son.
"He loved his son his so much," Barry said. "He had his small kid in that truck every time I saw him."
'Troubled Soul'
A man with a page on the popular Internet networking site MySpace.com bears a striking resemblance to Hall and listed his interests as "eating small children and harming small animals." He was described as a "sweet troubled soul."
The man said his favorite movies are "anything that pushes the envalope (sic), A clockwork Orange, Srangeland and lets not forget horror movies!!!! yea scary (or cheesy)like."
The man in the photos on the page bears a striking physical resemblance to Hall. The man uses only the name "Jack," which Hall is known by to neighbors. The person on the MySpace page also uses the same age and location as Hall, and a person with the same name as his wife, Aletha, has a page linked to Hall's.
In a photo on "Jack's" page, the man is posing with a young boy. Neighbors said Hall and his wife have a 4-year-old son.
"Jack" lists his occupation as millwork specialist and his heros as Batman and "my dad." He said he might "want to own my own company someday."
I can not understand how a married man with a 4 year old son could do something like this. Its a shame they just cant kill him now. He is the guy in the video. Its his truck. Instead he could spend the next 50 years in jail at tax payers expense.
