Man Fed Live Neighborhood Kittens To His Pitbulls!
Police Say Man Fed Cats to His Pit Bulls
9/21/07
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) — A man captured neighborhood cats and kittens and fed them live to his pit bulls, authorities said Thursday. Tye Hilmo, 21, was charged Thursday with aggravated cruelty to animals.
Hilmo was already in jail on drug, firearm and probation violation charges, Gwinnett County sheriff's spokeswoman Stacey Bourbonnais said.
The new warrant charges that Hilmo "did give injured live cats and kittens to his pit bull dogs and let the pit bulls kill the already injured cats and kittens. Hilmo would capture and injure neighborhood cats for this purpose."
He was arrested Sept. 10 after investigators serving a search warrant on his house found guns and two pounds of marijuana, Bourbonnais said. He has been jailed since then.
Authorities found the bodies of two kittens near Hilmo's residence. Bourbonnais said they also found a gruesome image on Hilmo's cell phone: a picture of one of his pit bulls and one of the mauled, dead kittens, and beneath picture a caption that says "Good Dog."
"It's pretty disturbing," Bourbonnais said.
The initial tip about Hilmo indicated he may be feeding kittens and cats to his dogs to prepare the dogs for fighting, but no dogfighting charges have been leveled against Hilmo, Bourbonnais said.
Sheriff's officials could not immediately say whether Hilmo has an attorney.

Woman Still Critical After Pit Bull Attacks
By Associated Press
ANNISTON, Ala. (AP) - Authorities said an Anniston woman mauled by four pit bulls early Friday remained in critical condition Tuesday at University Hospital in Birmingham.
Anniston police said 51-year-old Olivia Thompson was found just before 2 a.m., lying against a fence, yelling for help in a neighborhood near Blue Mountain.
Police said one of the pit bulls was shot and killed when it charged an animal-control officer. Thompson is recovering from severe injuries to her scalp, arm and extremities – authorities said she has undergone two surgeries.
Three dogs were euthanized and sent to a state lab to be tested for rabies tests.
The owner of the canines received 10 citations for violating various city ordinances.

Fourth pit bull attack reported
Thursday, August 30, 2007
By VETO F. ROLEY
PASCAGOULA -- A man mowing his lawn Monday became the fourth victim of a pit bull attack in Jackson County.
John Scovel was taken to Singing River Hospital Monday morning after two pit bulls attacked him while he was on his riding lawn mower. Scovel said the dogs bit him on the feet, ankles and lower legs.
"They chewed them up," Scovel said as he recovered Wednesday. "They ate me up."
Pascagoula Police Lt. Paul Leonard said he expects charges to be filed against the dogs' owner, Nora Brown, 58, who lives at 3121 Scovel Ave., as early as today. Leonard said she faces two charges of letting her dogs run at large. Leonard said he is still waiting for Scovel to sign charges against Brown. Scovel said he has not been able to travel since the attack.
Although charges have not been filed, Leonard said the two dogs are at the Jackson County Animal Shelter in Gautier for observation. He said Brown has already signed papers allowing the shelter to appropriately dispose of the dogs.
Scovel said he had not seen the dogs in the area, even though he cuts the grass at his 2714 Larchmont St. home every two weeks.
"They had me by the feet before I knew they were there," Scovel said. "They came up behind me and grabbed me and started chewing. I didn't know what to do."
Scovel said he was helped by two men.
"A man from across the street finally got them calmed down and put them in a car," he said. The second man took him to the hospital, where he stayed until 1 p.m. Tuesday.
Scovel said that one of the bites from the dogs went to the bone. He said he did not know if that wound would fully heal.
Three previous pit bull attacks on humans have been reported by The Mississippi Press.
Rev. Randy Kimbrough and his wife Ruth were attacked on the front porch of their Moss Point home by two pit bulls on April 15.
Moss Point Municipal Judge Maxine Conway later fined the owner of the dogs, Maxine Younts, $2,285 for the attacks. The dogs were euthanized 10 days after the attack. Dana Brown also reported that her 14-year-old son was attacked by a different pit bull earlier the same day the Kimbroughs were attacked. In June, 8-year-old Jacob Germany was attacked while he rode his bike on Oak Street.
Scovel said that pit bulls that attacked him should be put down.
"They liked to kill me," he said. "Nobody should have animals like that."
Leonard said that owners of dangerous animals have the responsibility of keeping their animals away from others.
"If you keep a vicious animal of any type," he said, "it should be confined in a secure, enclosed environment that prevents any individual from coming into contact with it."

Pit bull attacks Roswell Woman
A Roswell woman on her daily walk Friday morning was attacked by a neighbor's pit bull, which tore into her head, police said.
The woman, who was saved by neighbors responding to her screams, was in surgery Friday morning at North Fulton Regional Hospital for severe but non-life threatening injuries, said Roswell Police Lt. James McGee.
Neighbors tried to stop the attack by beating the dog with sticks and shovels, but "they didn't faze him," said Charles Tedford, president of the homeowners association in the Lake Forest subdivision, where the attack occurred.
The dog finally stopped and turned on a neighbor who had been hitting it with a shovel, biting him in the arm, McGee said.
The dog then turned to attack another neighbor who was approaching with a .45-caliber pistol. He killed the dog with one shot to the head, McGee said.
The female victim was not carrying identification and neighbors did not know her name. Her home in the 900 block of Lake Haven Court, is owned by Quoc Khoan Giang, and the home phone is listed under the name of W.A. Trinh, according to records.

Neighbors shocked by animal cruelty allegations
Accused man is 'animal lover' and didn't feed cats to dog, dad says
By LATEEF MUNGIN

Neighbors had wondered about Tye Hilmo and his tan-colored house on Drowning Creek Road in Dacula for years.
There was talk of loud boozy parties. And whispers of drugs. But what Gwinnett County Sheriff's deputies say they found at the home has astonished neighbors and even Hilmo's own father.
Gwinnett Sheriff's deputies say the 21-year-old Hilmo took at least two kittens, injured them and then fed them to his pitbull, Jack.
"Everybody knew Tye's house was a party house," said Carol Lunsford, who lives next door, "And there were so many cars in and out of here .... But the kittens thing scares me. It makes you wonder what else a person can do."
Hilmo was arrested Sept. 10 after deputies received a tip about possible animal cruelty. Two cat carcasses were found on the property as well as two pounds of marijuana, authorities said. Deputies seized a photo from Hilmo's cellphone appearing to show a dog chewing a kitten above a caption that reads, "Good Dog."
"I don't believe it," Veronica Johnson said. "He didn't seem to be that type of person."
Gwinnett authorities say Hilmo was arrested seven times before. Those charges ranged from theft to battery. Law enforcement authorities didn't know the status of those charges, but his father, Tim Hilmo, said most involved misdemeanors and most had been dismissed.
Tim Hilmo said he had to move out the house because of his own conviction in 1998 for child molestation. He served two years in prison and then moved into the Dacula home with his son. Tim Hilmo moved out last year because a change in state law forbids people on the sexual offender registry from living within 1,000 feet of a church.
Tim Hilmo said he has been in constant conversation with his son and he knows his son did not steal and kill kittens.
"If I thought Tye did it, I would be wondering why like everybody else and wondering what he could do next," Tim Hilmo said. "But Tye did not do this. He is an animal lover."
