"Ignore" feature
I addressed this issue awhile ago, but I just wanted to weigh in again with my (and other's) observations.
It is my understanding that the "list" is cleared everyday for "Guest" readers.
It is also my understanding that this "list" is generated/compiled each day as a new "ignore".
In other words, its a clean slate until someone employs it again. Which means that a member has to activate "ignore" for a particular member .
THAT list (per individual member) is not cleared automatically, therefore that would not require any intervention from the member doing the "ignoring".
(That list remains untouched by Admin.)
How is it then, that EVERY DAY my name is on the "ignore" list for Guests?
I can only conclude that there is an obvious glitch in the software that allows someone else to dictate what a non-member can, and can not, read- here at RU.
EVERY DAY.

I think that Kay would be the person to answer your questions on the iggy feature.
ETA -- but why are we concerned with non-members? There is no membership fee. There are no dues. What is the problem with non-members becoming members if they wish to read everything?

That would be fine.
But thats not how it works.
As I explained.
Once you put someone on ignore, it stays until it is removed.
There is no need to do it every day.

... are you saying I should PM Kay, and not address it on the board?
I am concerned because:
# 1 I am a member and I care
#2 You do not have to be a member to read here. THAT should be all inclusive, not just selected members chosen as a result of a glitch in the software.
Take a peek some day as to WHO is always on that list.
And you will see what I mean.
A LOT of professional people- LE, Media, etc. that are interested in and/or researching this case are directed by GOOGLE to RU. They are met at the door with a list of "ignores".
They should not have to register in order to read ALL opinions. Not just those that are chosen- whatever means that is determined.
Aren't YOU concerned?!?

For over 4 months?
There are not that many members that post here (only on the NH forum) daily.

Ignore the troll WOW. I logged out and yes you are on ignore for me. So are Gwen and Eliza today. It changes daily but for me, but you are unfortunately always on ignore for me when I'm not logged in.

Well now that this has been moved from the HE...
Kay...
This is more than an annoyance.
My concern is that non-members can not read every viewpoint. And as you know, that translates to some members being edited. All views and opinions should be heard by anyone that comes to RU- not just some, but ALL.
So IMO, the entire board should be either open, or closed to both members, and non-members- all or nothing. This ignore feature obviously has a glitch. (I test software for a living)
And even if you clear the cache- as soon as that is done- the process of putting a member on ignore can immediately be re-instated. So even the temporary clearing is only momentary.
Google directs people here a lot.
Unfortunately a non-member is not going to see all of the posts, and should not be required to register to read here. But the present issue forces them to make that choice.

WoW, I just logged out as well. You are not on the ignore list.
There is a whole bunch on that ignore list: Myra, Karn, lin, Eliza, Bubbles... just to mention a few.

Could be. Some just don't appreciate attention to detail. I can proudly say that not a single photo of my children has ever been photoshopped. My kids are perfect, imperfections and all. Poor Beth for being so shallow. I suspect the troll is Beth actually. Prolly healing from a botched face lift or sumpin.

Maybe the "professionals" are signing up to ignore? LOL
I don't care who does or doesn't read me....I don't have anything to say that'll break the case.
Lawdy Lawdy. ...aren't some thinking highly of themselves.

I have been on ignore every day.
I was today also (as you can see from the posts above)
So why some see "ignore", and others don't, I have no clue.
And no, I do not "think highly of myself".
It's not about me.
It's about ALL opinions being available to read.

Many can't for various reasons.
Others simply don't want to for various reasons.
The point is that when this feature is activated for Guests,
It is akin to censorship. Intentional or not.

The board is open for anyone to join at no cost.
All they have to do is sign up, pick a nickname, register and be activated.
It is not akin to censorship - for one thing - it is random, not intentional.
I think Kay does a fine job of handling the boards problems.

I certainly agree with you, Pat, especially for Kay's efforts and contributions to this board.
WoW, what is with these non-members who don't want to be members but want to read everything? Have they contacted you, and if so, how? If they aren't members, they cannot PM. Are these people previously banned members who cannot become members?

I agree that Kay does a fine job.
She didn't design the software, so obviously she has no control over it. It is a bug that needs to be fixed by phpBB. And it is, in no way, "random". Whatever is triggering the "ignore", is intentional. That does not mean it is mean-spirited, only that it is intentional, not random.
I am aware of the registering process. Obviously.
But thanks anyway.

When I'm not logged in, I can navigate any thread on any board with
no one on IGNORE.
There's no "IGNORE LIST" accessible on the Front Page when I'm not
logged in.

1. These people are not "previously banned members".
2. They want to "read everything" because they are interested in the case, and was directed to RU via Google, or other means. Why wouldn't we (RU) want to provide full visibility to these people? I read at quite a few sites, but I do not want to register or be a member- some of those sites are mere "I.P. catchers"- others, like Deetch's site, was just plain offensive- besides lurking is an acceptable practice on the internet.
3. If and how I was contacted is not relevant to the problem, so I don't know why you are asking me that.
And of course I am aware that PM's are only for members in good standing.
As I said... Google directs people to RU based on search criteria on the Natalee Holloway case. If they are not a member, they are met at the door with a bunch of "ignores".
In order to read ALL posts, they are required to register. That is not an option for many people for various reasons. One example is that they are at a work computer and it is against policy. In some cases that is their only internet access. But that is only one example of many.

Correct there is no "IGNORE LIST" as a guest.
However, when a guest goes to a thread, and a member is on "ignore"- they can not read those posts, and they have no way to remove the "ignore" status because they are non-members.
There were no members on the Guest "ignore" list, that I can see, as of this posting today.
Kay probably cleared the cache.
She does this daily (god bless her heart) to help alleviate the problem. But that is over ridden as soon as it is activated again.

You have also been on the "ignore" list many times.
People that are not members- do come here specifically to read your transcripts. They are invaluable to many- including other media sources.
