I'd say all of those you don't care to have posting are on ignore. Not saying it's done by you of course, just that it tells a story.

First of all, I have never even implied that there is anyone here that I "don't care to have posting."

Secondly, I haven't touched the "ignore" button, so I don't know what you are implying.

And lastly- Since I originated this thread a lot of people that I had not previously seen on the list are all now on it daily, and I'm not- but for months previous to the post, I was on it DAILY. Does that "tell a story" also?

Ya know....

I have a VALID concern about a board feature.

I simply do not understand your questions and how they relate to my concern. Why the interrogation?

You are a mod YIF, and I really do expect you to rise above the pack and hold yourself to a higher standard.
I am really dissapointed.

You can say whatever you want Sid- I just think it is important that everyone can read it, not just a selected few.

This is obviously a flaw in the board program and Admin is very aware of it. Do you not think they have read your concerns? Have you pm'd any of them, especially Kay?

Just joking, WOW. We've had this problem for a long time and no one seems to know how to fix it other than an occasional temporary fix. It is not fair for just some posts to be readable and not others.

The people who cant read it are the ones who aren't logged in. It is a flaw in the program, but kay clears the "anonymous" ignores which is where they show up regularly just not daily when she is on the road. Last week she had no power for 5 days due to a storm in her area and used the few minutes she drove out to the highway in her car to plug the laptop in to download her real work emails and answer them

We are not perfect, we are not 24/7, admins and mods make mistakes, but when there was NO ignore feature the baiting and rebaiting was far worse. The people the problem affects are NOT LOGGED IN. regular users log in.

Of course we could become a private board then no one could read any posts unless members which would get rid of the ignore flaw complaints.

Just a thought, but have you all thought of doing away with the "ignore" feature and this will be avoided and whoever wants to ignore somebody can simply just ignore the posts and not read them. Seems like a viable option to me.

Not all "regular users" log in all the time.
And not all "regular users" are members.
Membership was never a requirement to read here.
Membership was only required to participate. (post)

The assumption is that all members always log in to read.
That is not always possible.
Different circumstances sometimes dictate otherwise.

There ARE people that do not own their own computers and use other people's or public ones, or even their workplace, which, in most cases do not want that type of activity on their computers. So they can read, but not post.

Geeez..seems you can't win here. Posters were screaming for the ignore feature to cut down on the baiting, but then that became a problem because some used the ignore feature as a way to post whatever they wanted and then cry use the ignore feature.

To cut down on all the added inconvenience for Kay, I would say just do away with the ignore feature.

If I understood correctly you have to empty a table from the database to clean up the ignore list for non-members. You try to do it daily but are not always able to do so.

Then why not install a script to automate this action at given times instead of executing it manually?

No you don't.

But what you fail to realize is that someone other than RU Administration now has control over at least one aspect of the board. Member or not, if you are not logged in, you will only be "allowed" to read what another member has chosen for you to read via blocking certain members posts. That, like it or not, is censorship.

The monkeees, or HMI, take your pick, can now censor anyone- even members of RU- if they are not logged on. And there isn't a damn thing that can be done about it.

Clicking the ignore feature for a particular member puts that member on the list for all folks- member or not, if you are not logged in. It stays there until it is cleared, sometimes daily, however, it is a simple thing to just recreate that list.

Most days the threads look like SM- you see no dissenting view points- just monkey poop. Beth must love it. Cause she knows that Media sources don't sign up to be members on Message Boards- they just read them. It's called LURKING. Common practice on the internet. Unfortunately, as a result of this board feature, we now have censorship- the very reason this board was created in the first place.

You missed the main point of my post. I said we should do away with the "Ignore" option and that will solve this problem and anybody will be able to read. If the people here want to ignore another person, you can simply skip their post and not read it. That is what I meant. I agree that this glitch allows some people to control who reads what and who reads who and that should not be.

I do not use Ignore but have played with the feature several times by ignoring posters and then signing out to see them Ignored for all visitors followed by signing in and Unignoring the same posters and signing immediately out to see that the posters I had Ignored and then Unignored were again visible to visitors. I had the realization and proof than any individual member of RU could chose to ignore a specific poster and make the decision for all visitors to or members of RU that were not signed in eg at least for a period of time any individual member of RU could censor specific posters for all visitors or members not signed in.

I did not post what I discovered because I did not want it to be common knowledge but I told a Mod in PM weeks ago.

IMO that one poster has the ability even for only a window until Kay clears the global Ignore to make the Ignore decision for all visitors and non-signed in posters is not a good RU policy.

I experimented with the Ignore feature again in the last hour and found something to me that is troubling. While signed in, I Ignored 4 posters and then signed out. The 4 posters were all posters that are relatively new and of strong voice and presense. Three of the four posters were on the global Ignore as a visitor but one was not. I signed back in to be sure I had ignored the one poster and I had. I Unignored the other three posters and signed out again. The one poster I still had on Ignore as a member was not Ignored to visitors still.

So what I discovered was that one specific poster (out of maybe 15 I had experimented with to see how the Ignore feature worked) was treated different by the software.

Unlike other posters, if one puts the poster Lin on Ignore, this specific poster is not placed on global ignore for visitors. Rolling Eyes

You going to write it? Kay has a full time job..she is just taking the slack up for myself and joy and im not about to ask her to write a script.
