Suspect in Meredith Kercher death officially cleared
ONE of the former prime suspects in the murder of Leeds student Meredith Kercher has been officially cleared, his lawyer has said.
Diya "Patrick" Lumumba was arrested in Italy in November and quickly released for lack of evidence.
However, he remained a suspect in the probe into the killing of Meredith in a house in Perugia.
Lumumba's lawyer, Carlo Pacelli, said that his client was cleared and no longer a suspect.
Lumumba had always denied involvement in Meredith's murder.
At one point, he had been accused by US student Amanda Knox, a suspect currently jailed in the investigation.
Three suspects remain behind bars: Knox, who was Kercher's flatmate; Knox's ex-boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito; and Ivory Coast national Rudy Hermann Guede.
