Thanks for all the info, LP!
I'm quite puzzles about the court records! And that drugs played a role with some family members.
I think there is a possibility that the life style/connections with this family could have something to do with the killings of the two little girls. Not that the family is involved but that they had something to do with the wrong people, IMO.
The police made some indications like (paraphrasing) "maybe those girls were targeted" and "establish which relationship those girls had with the perp(s)".
I hope the police solves this case soon!

On the right track, and solution not far away?
Sun June 22, 2008
Help with case comes across boundary lines
By Johnny Johnson
Staff Writer
WELEETKA — Okmulgee County Sheriff Eddy Rice hasn't watched much news lately, but he knows his Okfuskee County counterpart, Sheriff Jack Choate, is in a tough spot. He also knows all that separated him from being in that tough spot is a distance of about 20 feet.
--->>
"But in this sense, I think it hinders the investigation. So many stories are misinterpreted and hearsay is told, and then it's blown way out of proportion and we have to deal with the aftermath of that.”
One of the best examples Rice can think of was the recent attempt by news outlets to help locate a suspicious American Indian man with a long ponytail who may have been one of the last people to see the girls alive.
"That sketch was in the paper and plastered all over the news,” Rice said. "Do you have any idea how many Indians we have in this county who have long hair and wear a baseball cap?”
Approximately two-thirds of the county has some sort of relation to the Creek tribe, Rice said, and that meant fielding and checking out dozens and dozens of calls saying that the sketch looked like someone.
"And we have to check them all out,” he said. "We were overwhelmed, but everyone just wants to help, and we understand that.”
'On the right track'
After spending nearly two weeks, going door-to-door and checking the validity on some "lower-level” leads, Rice said his office was trying to transition back into taking care of some of the county's everyday business that had been put on hold during the murder investigation.
His office has been used for interviews and for lie detector tests, but Rice said most of the loose ends have been tied up and investigators may be close to a big break in the case.
"I believe they are on the right track, and that it's not too far away,” he said. "This is definitely not a dead end as some people think. I know that with something of this magnitude you want someone in jail this second, but there's so much to look at, and so many leads. They have a responsibility to do this right all the way.
"This is not a case that we want kicked out in court.”
I sure hope Rice is right and that a solution isn't far away.

Specially Trained Dog Headed To Scene Of Weleetka Killings
POSTED: 5:06 pm CDT June 24, 2008
UPDATED: 5:28 pm CDT June 24, 2008
WELEETKA, Okla. -- A specially trained dog will be looking for gunpowder and bullet casings Wednesday in the area where two girls were killed in Okfuskee County on June 8, authorities said.
Taylor Paschal-Placker, 13, and Skyla Whitaker, 11, were shot to death near Weleetka two weeks ago, and while agents with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation have handled several leads, no persons of interest have been taken into custody.
OSBI agents said the dog to be used on Wednesday is trained by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. The dog is trained to detect gunpowder and bullet casings.
Agents still want to talk to a man described as an American-Indian, possibly part white, who is about 35 years old and stands 6 feet tall. Brown said the man has a pony tail and drives a white Ford or Chevrolet single-cab pickup truck with chrome stripping and an Oklahoma license tag.
He was seen standing near the truck near the time and place the youngsters were shot to death.
"We just want to talk to him," Brown said. "We think he might have seen something to resolve the case."

No additional evidence found today
Weleetka search with bomb-sniffing dog nets no new details
By MANNY GAMALLO, World Staff Writer
6/25/2008
WELEETKA — A bomb-sniffing dog that specializes in finding bullet casings combed the scene Wednesday where two young girls were murdered this month, but did not find any additional evidence.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation wasn’t optimistic the dog would find any casings, but, according to spokeswoman Jessica Brown, Wednesday’s search did help narrow the forensics part of the investigation. --->>

No news on solving the case, but comment from Skyla's father:
It’s been one month since the shocking discovery of the two little girls killed just down the road from their homes.
Now the community of Weleetka is struggling to come to terms with what happened and why no one has been arrested.
For the families of Skyla Whitaker and Taylor Paschal-Placker not knowing who killed their little girls is upsetting and frustrating.
For the first time, Skyla’s Father breaks his silence to Fox 23’s Abbie Alford about the loss of his daughter and her friend Taylor.
As Skyla’s father William Whitaker walks down the dirt road, the same dirt road where Skyla and Taylor were killed, he feels something land on him,
"See it, it landed on me, it landed right here on my….” A butterfly lands on his heart. William says Skyla loved butterflies.
So to honor her, he’s wearing a memorial t-shirt so everyday both girls are remembered.
As he continues to walk, and this walk, as pretty as it is, is still a painful reminder the killer is out there.
"I can understand why they would walk here … It's beautiful."
But now the walk leads back to what life for this family used to be like when Skyla was still alive and vibrant.
William says the most painful part is at home, "I get up in the morning. I'll look over where she slept. All curled up in a sleeping bag part of the time where she would watch TV all night. She's not there, she's not there," says William.
As much pain as this father is in he knows he has to take steps forward to begin what is a long journey a head of him.
"The smallest step, that's something you have to do.” As he continues to take bigger steps William says, “I don't know if it's closer to finding an answer or if it's closer to mending my heart."
His mixed emotions are overwhelming. William says he’s thankful for the community’s support, but he knows it won’t bring his daughter or Taylor back, “We've gotten a lot of 'I'm sorry’s or if there is anything that you want or need', the only thing I want or need I can't ever have."
William says all he can ask for now, is the killers be caught so he can bring the girls justice, “Those babies didn't do anything to anybody."
Again, the Whitaker and Paschal-Placker family say they are thankful for everyone’s support.

LovelyPigeon, I know we all react differently when tragedy touches our lives and how we deal with it. Skyla's father expresses very poignantly how he feels, he knows his daughter and the things she loved and enjoyed doing. His sadness is palpable and his love for his daughter clear, he grieves the loss of her future but reflects with affection the happy memories he has and even sounds proud to share those private thoughts.
When a butterfly next lands on me, or 'on my heart' I also will think of Skyla, an innocent child, and her friend Taylor, who lost their chance at life.
I hope he and the families finds solace in their memories, Skyla and Taylor are at peace and without pain,

Officials Release 911 Tape in Double Slaying of Oklahoma Girls
Monday, July 21, 2008
Officials released the first minute of a 911 tape in the double murder of two young girls gunned down on a rural road in the hope that it will spark new leads in a case that has stymied investigators for seven weeks.
"They went for a walk and they're both, they're dead!" a female relative screams to the 911 operator, begging her to "help me please."
Taylor Paschal-Placker, 13, and Skyla Whitaker, 11, were found shot to death June 8 close to Taylor's home in rural Weleetka, Okla.
"It breaks your heart hearing it, doesn't it?" Jessica Brown, a spokeswoman for the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, said at a press conference held Monday. The agency released the first 1 minute, 22 second portion of the more than six-minute-long tape after consulting the victims' families.
"We’ve gotten so many leads in. We just need that right one," Brown told FOX News on Monday. "And we’re hoping that this will stir some emotion in the people or the person who has information that can help break this case."
"We know someone out there knows what happened or has a good idea of what happened and can help us with this case," she said.
Brown said investigators have received more than 500 leads in the case and eliminated 100 people in the case.
Officials had released a sketch of a person of interest in the case who they believe may have seen the person or people responsible for the girls' deaths, but Bureau of Investigation officials have been tightlipped since.
The man is described as an American Indian, about 6 feet tall, with black hair and a ponytail stretching to the small of his back. Investigators say the man was seen standing near a white Ford or Chevrolet single cab pickup with chrome striping and an Oklahoma license tag around the time and place the girls were shot.
The girls were shot a number of times in the head and chest with weapons of two different calibers, leading authorities to think two gunmen were involved. Investigators also believe that bullet casings collected near the crime scene could be linked to the homicides.
More than $30,000 in reward money is available for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

Nothing to hide I don't believe. She is the biological grandmother but the adoptive mother.

Thanks, Savannah.
This parents/grandparents thing is just too confusing, IMO.
How weird that the grandparents would adopt their own grandchildren.

I admit I'm surprised that it was guardian grandmother that made the 911 call instead of guardian grandfather, who was there at the scene.
Can somebody explain how that came about? I'm lost now.

Granted there IS confusion about that. Because when the case first broke we heard that Peter Placker (grandfather/adoptive father) had made the original 911 call from Taylor's cell phone. We're discussing this on another board. If I find anything out, I'll report back. It is strange. Maybe they both made a call? If so why did they release this one and not the other?

Well I dunno, CK......not really I don't think. If the "real" mother/father were very young/unable to take care of a kid. I hear a lot about grandparents raising the kids.....not a stretch to literally adopt them.
If I did know anything about the "real" parents, I've about forgotten now though. This case has SO dragged on. I PRAY they find the killer(s). This is such a tragic crime.
