Singer Winehouse has damaged lungs
LONDON, England (AP) -- Singer Amy Winehouse has lung damage and irregular heart beat, says her father.
Winehouse collapsed Monday at her north London home after signing autographs for a group of fans.
Soul diva Amy Winehouse has damaged her lungs by smoking crack cocaine and cigarettes, her father said in an interview published Sunday.
The Sunday Mirror quoted Mitch Winehouse as saying that Amy has an early stage emphysema and an irregular heartbeat, and has been warned that she will have to wear an oxygen mask unless she stops smoking drugs.
"The doctors have told her if she goes back to smoking drugs, it won't just ruin her voice, it will kill her," Mitch Winehouse was quoted as saying.
"There are nodules around the chest and dark marks. She has 70 percent lung capacity."
Winehouse collapsed at her north London home Monday after signing autographs for a group of fans and was taken to a London hospital for tests. She remained there all week.
She is still scheduled to sing at a concert in London on Friday celebrating 90th birthday of Nelson Mandela, the South African Nobel Prize-winner, and plans to take part in the Glastonbury music festival the following day.
Mitch Winehouse said it would be good for his daughter to perform.
"When she's been inactive work-wise then that's when the problems really start. The doctors have said that medically there isn't any reason why she can't do Glastonbury," the paper quoted him as saying.
He also pleaded with her drug taking friends to stay away from her.
"What hope does she have if people are taking drugs around her," he said.

Frail singer Amy Winehouse is still battling her serious lung condition – but that didn't stop her from rehearsing for an upcoming gig or smoking!
The 24-year-old checked out of her London hospital for a few hours Monday to practice for her performance at Nelson Mandela's birthday celebration this Friday. (She also found time to shop for a new pair of her trademark ballet shoes.)
Despite her father Mitch's previous claims, reps now say Winehouse is not suffering from emphysema. It's a "scarring of the lungs which could lead to emphysema", says spokesman Chris Goodman. "If she keeps doing the wrong things, then it could lead to it. If she does the right things, it won't."
Doctors have warned that smoking is one of those "don'ts." But the troubled singer was seen with a lit cigarette during her furlough from the clinic.
Still, concert organizers were happy with Winehouse's rehearsal, Goodman says. "Doctors have to give it the final sign off, but it went well," he adds. "She will really enjoy it – she always does."

Wearing a white-and-black form-fitting dress, the Back to Black singer, 24, sang "Rehab" and her massive hit "Valerie" for the crowd, who welcomed her with loud cheers.
Despite her recent hospitalization, Winehouse looked healthy. She wore her trademark beehive loose at the back. Decorating her hair was a heart-shaped adornment inscribed with "Blake" for her incarcerated husband, Blake Fielder-Civil.
With Mandela watching in the wings, Winehouse danced while performing "Valerie" and revealed glimpses of her shorts-style underwear. At the end of the song, she made a simple bow of her head, moved back towards the band and thanked the Soweto Gospel Choir.
A surprise guest spotted in the crowd was Prince William's girlfriend Kate Middleton.
The first that the crowd saw of Winehouse was at about 8:30 p.m. when she joined the rest of the performers to listen to Mandela make a brief speech. The concert also raises awareness for his 46664 charity and campaign, named after Mandela's prison number. "Our work is for freedom for all," Mandela said.
Led by Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, Winehouse joined performers and guests such as Geri Halliwell, Leona Lewis and Annie Lennox on stage to sing "Happy Birthday" to Mandela, with Lennox blowing a kiss to the statesman as he left the stage.
Winehouse also took lead vocals in a version of "Free Nelson Mandela," alongside Jerry Dammers, the writer of the '80s anthem, and most of the concert's performers, including rockers Queen.

Amy Winehouse is back on stage – and she's in fighting form.
At the end of her hour-long performance Saturday before nearly 80,000 festivalgoers at the Glastonbury Festival in Somerset, England, the singer climbed down from the Pyramid stage and threw a punch at a fan, the Associated Press reports.
Witnesses say that a fan tried to grab the singer, though it is unclear what provoked the altercation.
Despite the scuffle, Winehouse was reportedly in fine voice, peppering her set with songs from her Grammy-winning album Back to Black, including "You Know I'm No Good." Before she sang "Wake Up Alone," she told the crowd, "I wrote this one for [incarcerated husband] Blake [Fielder-Civil.] I thought I'd never see him again."
The beleaguered Brit, 24, then mumbled a bit, and told the crowd: "I've only got two weeks left of this predicament, so this one's for you, Blake."
Following her performance, Winehouse changed into more casual clothes – a striped T-shirt and shorts – before scouting out a headlining set by rapper Jay-Z, which she watched next to his wife, Beyoncé.
Earlier in the weekend, Winehouse surprised fans with a two-song performance as part of Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday tribute in London's Hyde Park.
The singer looked healthy, according to reports, and gave her husband some attention with a heart-shaped adornment that featured his name, which she wore in her hair.

Amy Winehouse's Father Fears for Her Life
Amy Winehouse's father is voicing his worst fear: That his hard-partying daughter could die a "slow and painful death" from lung disease.
According to the BBC, Mitch Winehouse told the U.K.'s Sky News in an interview: "My biggest fear is that she would die," he said, "but she won't die of a drug overdose. It won't be that quick. She would die, unfortunately, of emphysema ... We would be talking about a very slow and painful death, gasping for air."
Even one more cigarette puts Amy's health in jeopardy, he told Sky, reminding viewers that doctors found "a small amount of emphysema in the top of one of her lungs," which could grow "a lot more serious."
That is why, he said, the "Rehab" singer will take a performing hiatus after September 6, when she's fulfilled her five remaining contractual gigs. From that date on, she'll be "relaxing and writing," Mitch told Sky, according to the BBC.
Earlier this week, the troubled star reportedly slapped a fellow patron at a London pub.

Amy Winehouse's Husband Sentenced to 27 Months
Blake Fielder-Civil, Amy Winehouse's husband, will spend the next 27 months in jail for assault and obstructing justice, according to the Associated Press.
Amy notoriously gave a shout out to her "Blake incarcerated" after her Grammy win earlier this year. He was arrested in November after admitting to beating up a pub manager in a bar brawl and then offering him $400,000 in hush money.
Judge David Radford reportedly told the 26-year-old that he behaved in a "gratuitous, cowardly and disgraceful" way, according to the AP.
Amy was not present at the sentencing.

The bad news first.
Crackhead Amy Winehouse was rushed via ambulance to the emergency room in London on Monday night.
The good news: she's not dead!
That's the scene outside her house as the singer was cloaked from the paparazzi on her way to the ambulance.
Wino was hospitalized just weeks ago for early stages emphysema.
Hopefully this stint in the E.R. is related to that!

Amy Winehouse has been hospitalized after she suffered a 'reaction to medication'.
The troubled singer was rushed to the accident and emergency unit at University College hospital in London last night after her father, Mitch, called an ambulance when his daughter started having a fit.
The Back to Black singer was brought out of her Camden flat in a wheelchair, wrapped in a blanket and given oxygen.
According to a spokesman for Winehouse, the singer had suffered a reaction to medication she was taking to keep her off hard drugs.
'Doctors have advised that she will be kept under observation overnight and is likely to be released tomorrow,' said her rep Chris Goodman.
A spokesman at University College hospital said Winehouse was in a stable condition and medics would make a decision whether to discharge her today.
Turbulent times continue for the soul singer who is being treated for crack cocaine addiction and also suffering from emphysema – which caused her collapse and be admitted to hospital last month as well.
Her father Mitch Winehouse spoke in June about his daughter's hospitalization saying: 'The doctors have told her if she goes back to smoking drugs it won't just ruin her voice, it will kill her.'

LONDON - Amy Winehouse was released from a London hospital Tuesday after an overnight stay to treat what her spokesman said was an adverse reaction to medication.
The 24-year-old singer-songwriter was discharged from London’s University College after spending the night in observation, said spokesman Chris Goodman.
Winehouse was rushed to the hospital’s emergency room by ambulance from her north London home Monday night. Goodman said the medication had been taken at her home, but did not provide further details.
“She had a bit of a scare yesterday because of a reaction to treatment. She was kept in overnight purely for observation,” Goodman said in a statement. “Amy is at home now after leaving with her father and manager. She is having a rest.”
Winehouse, who won Grammy Awards and global acclaim for her 2006 album, “Back to Black,” was admitted to a London clinic in June after collapsing at home. Her father, Mitch Winehouse, said at the time she had developed early stage emphysema from smoking cigarettes and crack cocaine.
But the troubled singer was released to perform at celebrations for former South African President Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday in London’s Hyde Park and for Britain’s Glastonbury music festival.
In addition to her health woes, Winehouse has had several run-ins with police in recent months.
She was investigated by police after a tabloid newspaper published a video that appeared to show her smoking crack cocaine. She was not charged.
Police also cautioned Winehouse in April for assault after she slapped a man during a night out.
