It's all part of the great ignore conspiracy.
I think Marcia came up with it after a long hot night in the Boiler Room- she was all Pabst up and her creative juices were flowing

It's a good self timing out tool actually. I use it judiciously and like it. Marcia forgot Natalee the minute the cameras stopped rolling PH. Don't kid yourself.

Keep it, it saves me a lot of time ... take this topic for example: a topic with 30 replies so far and 7 or 8 from one poster on ignore

I don't know what it is about Natalee, but I don't think that many days have gone by since June 2005 that I haven't thought of her and I really believe that the people that actually knew her as a person, and not just as a name or a face that is spoken about on a message board - think about her everyday as well.
I know there may be more important things in life to worry about - but whoever Natalee was - "her story" has fascinated me.

There is a bit more to this feature than what the intent was/is.
http://www.refugeesunleashed.net/viewtopic.php?t=14898
For example:
| Quote: | Someone other than RU Administration now has control over at least one aspect of the board. Member or not, if you are not logged in, you will only be "allowed" to read what another member has chosen for you to read via blocking certain members posts. That, like it or not, is censorship.
The monkeees, or HMI, take your pick, can now censor anyone- even members of RU- if they are not logged on. And there isn't a damn thing that can be done about it.
Clicking the ignore feature for a particular member puts that member on the list for all folks- member or not, if you are not logged in. It stays there until it is cleared, sometimes daily, however, it is a simple thing to just recreate that list.
Most days the threads look like SM- you see no dissenting view points- just monkey poop. Beth must love it. Cause she knows that Media sources don't sign up to be members on Message Boards- they just read them. It's called LURKING. Common practice on the internet. Unfortunately, as a result of this board feature, we now have censorship- the very reason this board was created in the first place. |

I like it, and it keeps my blood pressure down. But I am game to trying to skip past those who get me going....I cannot devote much time to reading here this summer, as I am gone for 11 hours most days.

I use IGNORE infrequently, but it is most useful for certain posters I have no interest in reading, regardless of what they have to say.

I don't see any reason to get rid of it, if you don't like it, just ignore it.

That would be fine if you want to be censored.

Answer: Yes I do
Reason: it saves me reading posters who are troublesome
Answer: No
Reason: i don't like it.
In reality the reason for the answer "No" is not as simple as "I don't like it". The Reason, and the cause for the poll, has much more depth, and is the bigger issue. It isn't a matter of "like it", or not.
The reason, IMO, is that , in essence, it became a tool for some members to censor other member's viewpoints to anyone not logged in- member or not.
It's like allowing HMI, or the monkeees (same thing) decide which posts can be read by anyone not logged in.
Should that really be an option?
I think not.

this morning i have to log in
to ignore my four least favorite posters and before i logged in one of my favorite posters was on ignore too even though i didn't put him there. is this ignore thing random? despite the problems and issues of censorship, i prefer the ability to ignore when logged in when the situation becomes oppressive as it has been lately due to the flurry of disruptive activity of some newcomers with an agenda.

The ignore function is not random.
Put someone on ignore while logged in and it is added to the "global" list until Kat can clear it. That "global" list is what is used for anyone not logged in- member or not.
Its a catch-22 for sure, but I prefer NO CENSORSHIP.
At present, this board can be controlled (or at least what you can view) by "those with an agenda" unless you are logged on.

Her nickname is "Kay" - not Kat - if you kept calling me by the wrong name I would keep you on "Global Ignore" (whatever the freak that is) - until the 12th of Never.

If the global list is determined by members putting other members on ignore, I don't see how it's any one group determining what is viewed or not, other than RU members.
Before I joined it seemed random to me. Both posters I liked to read and posters I didn't were blocked while the same was true for posters that were not blocked, both those I liked and those I didn't. Just different sets of both and wasn't the same each day. In fact, I initially thought my little one had randomly hit the ignore button and wrote in asking how to fix this.
I actually thought it was a clever 'gimmick' to increase membership.
