Get High

I have just started a web page which you may enjoy visiting:
http://lookoutvistas.home.mchsi.com/

Called “lookout Vistas” it is about scenic vistas from fire lookouts in Northern California and Oregon which can easily be driven to in a conventional 2WD car, over good roads, off of major interstate highways.

I will be continually adding to the content of the website, and eventually all of the pages of the website will feature rotating panoramas and photos that identify what can be seen in the landscape around these lookouts. Links to interpretive exhibits about the scenery will also be featured.

Any suggests or comments you may have on the website would be appreciated.

How come the "end" of the 360 degree panorama shot's don't match the "beginnings"?

Its a political conspiracy. Laughing

In some of the vistas, the lookout is up against a mountainside or visual obstructions such as trees, which foregrounds were excluded from the panorama.

I always thought lookouts were placed on the very top of mountains in order to provide a 360 degree view.

Unsung 9/11 Hero

Photobucket

For the love of the forest, he gave the ultimate sacrifice, September 11, 1978.

Sit and rest awhile

Listen to the pines whisper in the light wind

Gaze at the trees and look upward

Where clouds pass by and day turns to night

Where memories are everlasting

Memorial epitaph at the Rim of the World overlook, to U.S. Forest Service Crew chief David Erickson, who lost his life while fighting the Stanislaus complex fire. This overlook is located along highway 120 about 17 miles west of the turnoff to the Yosemite National Park Crane Flat lookout/helitack base.

New page added today to LookoutVistas website:

Cloud Dragon standing guard over Yosemite Valley

Photobucket

This photo was taken from the Valley Portal overlook along Hwy 120 as it descends into Yosemite Valley away from Crane Flat Lookout/Helibase. It looks down the Merced River Canyon towards Bridal Veil Falls.

The Mount Diablo page of the Lookout Vistas website has also been updated with labels of the view of the Sierra Nevada Mtns. 145 miles away from Mt. Diablo.
