Will an EMMY change this case?
| Quote: | Crime reporter Peter R de Vries has been nominated for an prestigious Emmy award for his covert tv interview with Joran van der Sloot in January this year.
In the tv show, Van der Sloot appeared to admit involvement with the disappearance of US teenager Natalee Holloway on the island of Aruba in 2005.
‘Naturally I realised that the impact of the report would be big, but that it would result in an Emmy nomination is a really nice surprise and a sign of recognition,’ De Vries told news agency ANP.
The winner will be announced in New York on September 22. |
I didn't know much about the EMMY's therefore I educated myself on what they are and how those elected are chosen and why. As is typical there are many naysayers who say this "video" was chopped and sliced and they showed statements out of context. Blah, blah, blah. These awards sound to be pretty prestigious and to even be chosen is an honor. It appears the selection process is rather stringent and all video is viewed for integrity and content.
Could winning an EMMY further legitimize this undercover operation and maybe change a few minds? I guess we'll have to wait and see, again.

You are really reaching and stretching to legitimize ole Peter's disgraceful show. I am sure ALE is waiting to see if he wins and then of course they will have to prosecute - bets anyone?

I would have to say that being nominated for an Emmy "legitimized" Peter's show and the only "disgrace" involved belongs to the VDS's.

Hang on there Peyton lover,
It wasn't me who selected him. Why is the show disgraceful? Because it hurt so many of Joran's followers by exposing his involvement. The legal "system" doesn't always work and Peter took it upon himself to prove what he thought and did. Joran wasn't coerced or beaten or anything like that. He was a willing albeit unknowing participant. What Joran said he did was wrong. There is no way around that. And remember it's not always just "bad" people who do bad things.

Bullchit. The committee has no way of knowing whether this submission is legitimate or not. Any producer can submit their tape. So the answer would be a resounding NO it would mean nothing if he won except that category was sorely lacking in submissions.

Not that you should find this surprising since you knew this first but you have no clew as to what you are saying. Please educate yourself first. Knowing several people in this particular industry I can state w/o question that the selection process is very stringent and candidates do not submit but are chosen. You could at least make it remotely challenging.
Never be afraid to be wrong. It can be quite satisfying.

i don't think they will get the award
given the sleazy methods. in any case, i don't think it will impact the actual case, irretrievably dead in the water.

How is driving around in a flash car coupled with copious amounts of weed and friendship sleazy? It may have been slightly clandestine but Joran was hardly coerced into doing anything but rolling another fatty. GMAFB.
