Thanks Slickster!
As a Court Reporter, I'm often faced with judiciary, counsel and witnesses with strong accents. Transcribing from audiotape can often be nightmarish when speakers have such accents.
As an example, a colleague of mine spent, I would estimate, several hours of her personal time as well as other reporter's time in attempting to identify a single word a witness repeatedly used in his testimony.
Even knowing the subject matter of the case etc. didn't seem to help her or us to make sense of this single word. Va-ca-ry is what we all heard over and over. This man had a strong asian and/or middle eastern accent.
In the end, the reporter did identify the word
It was Blackberry. What made it confounding is that the witness referred to it not as a device but as a company, i.e. "I worked for Blackberry" or as we kept hearing "Vacary"
I'm looking forward to checking this site out completely and sharing it with my colleagues. Thanks again![/i]
