What is she doing there? Doesn't her son still live in MB? |
Last I heard Matt was still in MB. Beth has a speaking engagement at some highschool in Arkansas. I guess she will run by and visit her Mom while she is there.
I think it will be interesting to see where Matt is this summer. If Dave is one half a man, he'll get him to come to Mississippi for the summer. At least he will have some family there.

I'm sure that would be an option for Matt but why would a teen want to spend the summer away from his friends? Matt hanging with his friends is probably the most relaxing time for him. What teen under normal circumstances would want to move away for their summer vacation? During tough times, I would think teens would want the distraction and company of their friends. If Matt chose to do this I would be more concerned about him. I would possibly consider he was being forced to just for the sake of appearances!

Have a great sleep, my friend. I appreciate how freedomofblog shows great restraint by not endorsing what Joe Tacopina calls "rank speculation."

Everyone needs a sense of family. Everyone states he is staying with friends. You know, friendship can only run soooooo deep. All teens need a family. Look at the other side. Who is keeping Matt? That is a tremendous responsibility. How many adults would want to take another teen on full time? I cannot image the responsibility of another teen. And, who has authority to make decisions about Matt without parents? I love my friends but there is a limit. If Beth was one of my friends I would tell her to get her butt to Alabama and take care of her own son.

Exactly, I agree, but that is the real focus of the concern many of us have for Matt. Beth should most certainly make Matt a priority over her "other" activities that also seem to produce money for herself and others! However, I'm certain Matt would rather stay in MB and cope with this situation with his mother being gone, than be hanging with family, especially a step family! It is Matt's choice and I would think he hopes it will remain his choice unless he begins to show signs of destruction. It really isn't that unusual for a teen's friend's parents to have absolutely no problem having their child's friend live with them. Besides, I doubt that Matt really "lives" with them, he probably goes back and forth as he needs and desires. Give Matt more credit, until proven otherwise, that he is adapting the best he can, and should be able to stay in MB regardless of his mother's actions. What are you thinking people should do? Force Matt to be closer to his family by living with his biological father, stepmother, and step siblings, just because that would be the "right" thing to do?

They are not step siblings, they are half-siblings. There is a difference. They share the same father. I never said force Matt. However, Dave needs to step up to the plate and definitely encourage. To be honest, I think Matt would probably go if asked. At this age, most of the friends will be doing other things. Many of them will have jobs and I can't see Matt working at this point.
After all, Dave is his dad and was a part of his life at one time. Now, his mom is only a small part and I would think he would need that security at this time. That is all I'm saying.

Yes, I knew that and posted the relationship wrong, they are, in deed, his half siblings. Sorry about that. However, I believe your thoughts are well meaning but not realistic as to what Matt needs or wants at this point in his life. However, I was raised in a situation where when I was a teen Mom at the age of 16, made the best decision in my life to move out on my own. I lived off of my SSI from my father's death, graduated HS at age 16, went to college, and worked this whole time part-time at a nursing home. I would like to believe that Matt has the same inner strengths to continue with his life as he choose, which I believe would include his friends as a huge factor to stay in MB. Family is still family, for life, whether living with them or not. Not living with certain family members, can be a real blessing! I hope Matt has some really good friends and other adults in his life beyond his family. Everyone should have a lot of people that love you, family isn't the only thing that sustains someone.

MF at FOB:
I am sorry I had to let you wait for 4 hours.
The news I got was from very reliable sources but I could not get it confirmed independantly and was also advised not to release it as yet.
I just hope it is true and we can finally say that this is over soon.
I just can say that I am still confused.

She seems to have a natural facility for language...I bet she would learn to speak Dutch very well.

How much do you think we can scrape together to try to bribe MF to tell us what he knows?

If that is true, then I say that Anita should be allowed 5 minutes alone with Beth.

Dutch can't be too tough to learn..... when we visited Holland in the early 70's, even quite small children could be heard speaking it!!

Thankfully we have no crows where I am. I live near a railway station and I see lots of kauwen (jackdaws) though. They don't seem to make as much noise. |
Here we have the Canada Geese that fly in groups of several dozen. These are large birds and you could hardly call what comes from their beaks singing;
I get GOOSED every morning at this time of the year | They're flying past to get to the park beside my house where they'll spend the summer pooping.
(I got attacked by a Canada Goose because I had no more ice cream cone to feed it. I had huge beak welts all over my arms and legs. A city councillor in TO wants to fly them down to Mexico. Maybe Aruba would like some lovely Geese and we could get a grant to escort them!)
