I live about 10 minutes from clemson and as far as serial killings are concerned I can say that is not the case. We have very few murders around here and news of a murder in our small town is extremely sad. Im sure they will solve this case the police say they have people of interest and one thing about a small town eventually everyone will know what happened.

KaleKona, she must have been a special girl. She wanted to help people who really needed her. Such a waste of a wonderful life.
I pray that they find her murderer and that he is punished for doing this to her.
Smreject, I know that area so well. I grew up not far from there. You are right. People who live there pull together and news does get around.
I hate that Fox News says it is the Bikini Murder. A lot of Clemson people have written Fox and told them that it is degrading. I sent an e-mail to them asking them not to describe the case that way.

Tiffany's Family Receives Phone Call From Parents of Murdered Clemson Student
May 31, 2006, 9:37 PM EDT
Earlier Wednesday, the family of a Clemson student who was killed in 1997 called Tiffany Souers' mother and offered it's condolences. Brooke Holsonback was also strangled.
FOX Carolina's Jamie Guirola tells us why her family says the phone call was heart-breaking but necessary.
Nine years ago murder was the headline near the Clemson campus. The victim-- an 18 year old student. Her parents have gone everyday since without answers and now they pray Tiffany's family won't have to wait nearly as long.
Warren Holsonback/Tiffany's Father: "Hey Brooke...there's been another tragedy up at Clemson...another student's been killed."
When Warren Holsonback visits his daughter's grave it's not unusual for him to talk to her. What is unusual is to tell her about someone else who was murdered.
Warren: "It takes you back in our grief for Brooke. It reminds us of what those first days were when we first found out Brooke was murdered."
Brooke Holsonback was a freshman at Clemson studying biochemistry in February of '97. Her father says she went RVing with some friends. Days later, her body was found in Lake Hartwell. Years later, the killer or killers can't be found.
Warren: "Children bury their parents, parents don't bury their children. And when it ends in violence it makes it even harder to understand."
Which is why Warren says his prayers just got a little bit longer. They now cover Tiffany Souer's parents who could have never predicted the emotional rollercoaster they're going through.
Warren: "Your mind really can do strange things."
And for Warren, controlling those emotions....
Warren: "....Sure miss you..."
Sometimes means visiting his daughter's grave....
Warren: "... miss you everyday.... Think about you everyday...
And letting her know he's thinking about her....
Warren: "...you take care..."
Whether she talks back or not.
Warren: "And bye bye...."

Yeah sometimes you dont really think about titles much untill its something that hits closer to home. Where did you grow up just curious? Yeah when something like this goes down I think everyone wants it resolved and the killer will be found and put to justice.

Authorities to release photo of 'likely suspect' in Clemson student's slaying
By MERYL DILLMAN
Anderson Independent-Mail
June 1, 2006
GREENVILLE — A photo of "a likely suspect" in the death of Clemson student Tiffany Marie Souers is to be released on Friday by the 13th Circuit Solicitor's office, officials said at a news conference.
A photo of the vehicle the man likely was driving also will be released.
Ms. Souers, 20, of suburban St. Louis, was found dead in her apartment at The Reserve complex in Central about 1:45 p.m. on May 26. Police said she had been strangled with a bikini top and was partially nude. She was enrolled in summer school and was studying engineering.
A special tip line will be opened for people to call in with information. But on Thursday, officials had not yet established the number.
"The photo is going to be of an individual who is specifically, candidly photographed undertaking a transaction ? that specifically connects him with the victim," said Bob Ariail, 13th Circuit solicitor.
The photo, of a man, is not clear, but Mr. Ariail said officials are working to enhance the image. Authorities do not believe the man is a student.
He would not say where the photograph was taken, but said people who know the man will probably recognize him in the image. He urged them to contact the authorities.
In addition, a South Carolina Law Enforcement Division investigator will be releasing a detailed profile describing the man, Mr. Ariail said.
Mr. Ariail said authorities believe the man is still in the area. He described him as young, but did not estimate his age.
Because of the man's youth, he said there was no connection between the "likely suspect" and two earlier homicides of Clemson students that remain unsolved.
"I don't believe this case is connected," Mr. Arial said.
A funeral for Ms. Souers was held today at the Church of the Annunziata, a Roman Catholic church in suburban Ladue, Mo., the Associated Press reported. About 600 family and friends attended.

Police search for SUV in Souers case, enhance photo of suspect
Investigators look for victim's missing sheets, believe killer still in area

Investigators are racing to identify a man they believe is a “likely suspect” in the strangling death of Tiffany Marie Souers while searching for a Chevrolet Blazer or GMC Jimmy that he may be driving.
They also are searching for the sheets that were missing from the bed of the Clemson University student when she was found on the floor of her apartment, a source close to the investigation told The Greenville News late Thursday. After an extensive search, investigators fished a set of sheets from a river, but they turned out not to be hers, the source said.
Authorities are searching for a 1986-95 Blazer or Jimmy that is light-colored, possibly gray or white, the source told the newspaper.
Thirteenth Circuit Solicitor Bob Ariail, at a news conference Thursday, said the suspect was “candidly photographed undertaking a transaction that specifically connects him with the victim, post her death.” He declined to discuss details of the photo or vehicle.
Authorities believe the man is still in the area.
They also plan to release “a profile of the behavior characteristics” of the suspect developed by a profiler from the State Law Enforcement Division, Ariail said.
Investigators have developed a DNA profile from items taken from the crime scene, Ariail said. “The body fluids developed as part of the investigation are being processed by the DNA section of the State Law Enforcement Division lab,” he said.
He wouldn’t identify the body fluids. When asked if anything was stolen from the apartment, Ariail said, “I will probably be able to tell you that tomorrow.”
Asked if the DNA links the man in the photograph to the crime scene or if sexual assault was involved in the incident, Ariail said he couldn’t say.
Authorities have said Souers was strangled with a bikini top about 1:30 a.m. May 26. Pickens County Coroner Jim Mahanes said she was wearing only a bra when she was found at her apartment at The Reserve in Central, with the bikini top around her neck.
The behavior profile will give “some indication of the type of person that we’re looking for,” Ariail said, adding the traits and characteristics were developed from the crime scene and the nature and circumstances of the crime.
“With that much information being disseminated at one time, we hope we will get some immediate feedback from the community,” he said.
Ariail said the investigating agencies are working to create a system to receive what they expect will be “a significant amount of calls.” He said they expect to get calls from people who may have been the victims of similar assaults, “giving us names and giving us anonymous information.”
The prosecutor said he didn’t know if the suspect in this case is connected to previous crimes. Asked if he thought Souers’ attacker could have committed crimes before that weren’t reported, Ariail said, “I think there’s some indications that this crime is similar to a lot of unreported crimes that may occur on a college campus.”
Ariail said it is important for local and national media to get the information out when it is released because many Clemson students aren’t at the school now in summer session but at their homes across the country and world.
Ariail said he would say where the photograph was taken and if it was surveillance or a personal photograph today but declined to comment Thursday.
He said officers don’t think there is a connection to this case and two previous cases from the 1990s in which Clemson students were killed and the crimes have gone unsolved.
“We don’t believe this person is an old person. We think this person is a very young person,” he said.
Souers, 20, from Ladue, Mo., had stayed at her apartment at The Reserve in Central after the end of the spring semester to take summer classes and help an Easley charity, according to her mother, Bren Souers.

Officers search Anderson County roadside for clues in Souers case
By MEGAN NICHOLS
Anderson Independent-Mail
June 2, 2006
South Carolina Law Enforcement investigators on Friday searched the roadside on U.S. 76 just inside the Anderson County line for evidence related to the Tiffany Souers murder case.
Officers declined to say what they were searching for, what they had found or how they knew evidence could be at this spot, but a reporter saw them photographing and bagging a cell phone found in the ditch about five yards from the road. Another unconfirmed report stated that an identity card also was found.
About 11:45 a.m. on Friday, three groups of officers were spread out along the road, slowly walking and stopping periodically to search underbrush.
Ms. Souers' body was found by a roommate on May 26 at her apartment complex in Central. Souers, 20, of suburban St. Louis, was an engineering student at Clemson University and was attending summer school at the time.
Investigators referred all questions to the 13th Circuit Solicitor?s office in Greenville. Several calls were not immediately returned on Friday.
Officials were to hold a press conference today to release an enhanced photo of the "likely suspect" in the case, plus a picture of the vehicle the man was driving.

ATM Images of Suspect
Vehicle Type: 1982-1994 Chevy or GMC 2-door SUV (not actual vehicle)
Other comments from the Solicitor's press conference:
The special number for the investigation for anyone with information is 1-800-442-2746 then press 2.
The ATM card was used 6 times at Sun Trust Bank and Wachovia on Tiger Boulevard.
This was a sexually motivated event The suspect may continue to pose a threat to other potential victims. He may strike out against someone he knows under the right circumstances, including family or friends.
The murder is all-consuming and a heavy burden for the offender and his sleeping, eating, drinking and drug habits may have changed. He may isolate himself and cancel plans without notice and be absent from classes or work.
The Solicitor stated that many people have been questioned but no specific suspect in custody at this time. He would not comment on whether this crime is related to the first-degree criminal sexual conduct arrest of Clemson student Steve Kudika...

Greta just interviewed a friend or co-worker of Tiffany's named Faith. According to Faith, she knows of a person that should be looked at very closly with regards to the murder. She stated that she has made 5 phone calls to the police since Saturday and hasn't really got much of a response from them.
It almost seemed like she contacted Greta to help get the police to pay attention.

A little more detail on that subject...
Police confident as clues mount
JACOB JORDAN, Associated Press
CENTRAL -- One of the last people to see 20-year-old Clemson University student Tiffany Souers alive said Wednesday she's "absolutely livid" that police did not talk with her until three days after the slaying.
Faith Clark, director of a charity where Souers volunteered, said her anger has subsided somewhat since her friend was found on the bedroom floor in her off-campus apartment Friday afternoon.
<Snipped>
Clark said she's frustrated but focused on helping authorities find the killer.
"I had to call them (police) three times," Clark said. After speaking with authorities Tuesday, Clark said she was more confident the investigation was being handled correctly.
"I pointed them in a couple of directions," said Clark, who would not elaborate.
<Snipped>
Souers had been working with a charitable group called Sharing Inc. since the winter and was the driving force behind the nonprofit's move to a larger facility, Clark said. The organization provides children with extracurricular activity grants and helps other charities expand by providing funding.
Clark and Souers walked through the new facility the day before the body was discovered. They talked about walls that needed to be torn down. One of the last things Souers said was, "Just stay focused and don't get overwhelmed" about the move, Clark said. "She was just very focused."
Clark said the two were close, and she nagged Souers about staying out of trouble and away from the wrong kind of college crowds.
"Tiffany wasn't a partyer," Clark said. "She professed to being a Christian. ... She was very driven on not messing her life up."
Thursday afternoon, Clark noticed a necklace with a gold cross around Souers' neck. "I had never noticed it before," she said. "That was God's sign to me she was going to be all right."

I saw this too. Why didn't that woman simply go into the police station instead of calling five times? I didn't like the idea of this sort of thing airing on Greta's program. Who knows about any of those people. Meaning the woman with the tip or the guy she was outing. He could be the perp or he could be involved in a different case or he could be unjustly accused. Made me uncomfortable that Greta was interceding in this way.

Callers flood tip line for Clemson slaying
Anyone with information asked to call 1-800-442-2746
Published: Saturday, June 3, 2006 - 9:24 am
By Ben Szobody
STAFF WRITER
Investigators have received between 75 and 100 calls by 9:30 this morning on a new tip line installed to enlist the public’s help in finding a young, white male they believe strangled Tiffany Marie Souers in a "sexually motivated" crime.
The 13th Circuit solicitor’s office said this morning that’s "a lot" and that investigators have seen "a very good response," though no specifics are available.
Solicitor Bob Ariail has said the suspect has committed aggressive sexual acts before and is likely still in the area where Souers was strangled in her apartment with a bathing suit top last week.
GreenvilleOnline will follow this story and provide updates later this morning.
The Pickens County Sheriff’s office is manning the tip line, and a bustle of activity could be heard in the background during a phone interview this morning.
Anyone nationwide with information regarding a sexually aggressive male, or anyone with a bandanna or vehicle of the kind described by investigators should call 1-800-442-2746 and press 2.
Click on the links to the right for photos of the suspect wearing distinctively patterned bandannas and examples of the kind of car he has used.
Ariail has also urged people who may be acquainted or related to the suspect to be on the lookout for anyone with changing sleeping, eating or drug habits who may isolate himself from people because the murder — probably the suspect’s first — "has become a heavy burden."

I saw the article "Callers flood tip line for Clemson slaying" this may be part of the reason they have not responded. Just too many tips coming in at once. Although, based on Faith's comments. It sounds like she tried to provide information right from the start on someone she felt should be looked at closely. I agree that there may be other reasons that the police haven't responded in the way she would have liked. Maybe they have already been looking at the person she suggested, maybe the person has already been ruled out, maybe they think she has a vendetta, or maybe they think she is just trying to get attention. Who knows, they are keeping their information pretty quiet.

Woman claims to know who killed student
Sharing Inc. head says she told police his name
By Samantha Epps and Meryl Dillman
Anderson Independent-Mail
June 3, 2006
Faith Clark, the director of Sharing, Inc., a charity where slain Clemson student Tiffany Souers volunteered, said Saturday that she believes she knows who killed Ms. Souers.
She said she gave his name to local authorities, who have formed a task force to investigate leads in the death, but she still has not received an adequate response from police.
After she called authorities several times to find out whether they had followed up on her information, she was told "we know who you are, and we will have a detective to call you," Ms. Clark said.
"I gave them his name last Saturday after I saw the news that Tiffany had been killed," Ms. Clark said. "All I’m looking for is for them to tell me he’s been ruled out as the suspect."
A spokesperson with the 13th Circuit Solicitor’s Office said authorities have followed up on leads they’ve received.
"I can tell you that we have followed up on every single lead that we’ve been given," the spokesperson said.
Ms. Souers, 20, was found strangled on May 26 in her apartment at The Reserve complex in Central. Authorities said she was strangled with a bikini top.
Ms. Clark, of Liberty, said the man she believes is responsible for Souers’ death is a "harasser of women," who has stalked at least 10 women that she knows, including Ms. Souers.
"I would call it (repeatedly) showing up, hanging around and aggravating women," Ms. Clark said.
Thirteenth Circuit Solicitor Bob Ariail released photos Friday afternoon of the type of vehicle the suspect was driving when he unsuccessfully attempted to use Ms. Souers’ debit card a few hours after her assumed time of death. The vehicle was a Chevy or GMC 2-door-style sport utility vehicle, Mr. Ariail said.
Ms. Clark said she hoped to be reassured after seeing the photos that the man she suspects in the killing could be ruled out as the killer, but she is now more troubled because he does drive a similar vehicle.
On Saturday the solicitor’s office announced that since the release of the photographs Friday of the suspect and of the possible vehicle he was driving, more than of 120 calls have come into a specialized tip line at the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office. The line was set up to receive calls about the Ms. Souers’ murder.
Anyone with any information is encouraged to call the specialized tip line at (800) 442-2746, extension 2. Callers do not have to give their names.
Mr. Ariail also announced Saturday that — in an effort to get the information about the vehicle and the suspect out to as much of the public as possible — the information was translated into Spanish and is being provided to members of Hispanic communities.
According to the solicitor’s office, the information was translated for the sole purpose of reaching out to the Hispanic population to gather any information they may have. It does not suggest in any way that authorities believe the offender is Hispanic, the office stated.
The solicitor’s office on Friday also released a behavioral profile of the murder suspect. According to a profiler with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, the crime has likely become "a heavy burden" for the man, whom authorities estimate is 18 to 25. The crime has possibly caused him to show changes in eating, sleeping and drug use. The suspect might try to isolate himself from family and friends by canceling plans and appointments, canceling classes or work or by avoiding friends and family altogether, according to the profile.
The suspect might also be dangerous, according to authorities.
"Investigators want to impress upon the public that the offender has demonstrated his ability to be very dangerous," Mr. Ariail said Friday. "Until he’s apprehended, he continues to pose a threat. Under the right set of circumstances it is possible he could strike out unpredictably against someone he knows."
I am thinking that if she is right and this is the guy. She may want to be careful putting herself out there like that!!

Hopefully this will bring good news. It doesn't sound like anyone has been arrested yet, maybe that's what they'll announce tomorrow.
