Dear, Refugees...

We are currently taking some measures to ease some of the ridiculous drama and havoc-inducing fighting around here. Here, at Refugees we love debates, and even healthy and hearty fighting is welcomed in the HE, but we are currently evaluating some of our members' statuses here.

It seems that some people are here for one purpose, to cause trouble.

VC and I are talking this over and weighing the pros and cons of deactivating some of our Refugee members. This is disheartening, but we realize that some of the issues we had hoped would smooth over naturally weren't getting any better. Some people will be warned that they are being considered and others will be deactivated without warning as we make our decisions.

We take particular offense to administration from other boards coming here to criticize our decisions. Out of respect, this is something that we would never consider doing ourselves to any other affiliate boards. We know how tough it is to run a board, and we know that every board has its own dynamics, therefore, we do not feel it is any of our business to be critical of them, and even more so, on their own board. And we would never consider causing fighting amongst their members. We know how stressful that can be.

I've always said that this is your board, and I've always hoped it could be a board that everyone could feel at home on; however, those who repeatedly show that they have no respect for others, the community, or the difficult decisions we make during our administration of the board, will be leaving us.

Please understand this is not something we ever wanted to do. We ask that everyone please show some consideration towards us at this time. We have put in many, many hours in this board and shed many tears and made many friends. We hope that most everyone here will continue to find this a place to call home.

This is not the time for people to send us a list of those they wish us to deactivate or start a fight over those we will be deactivating. Please be considerate. This is not an easy decision for us.

I most certainly agree with you.

I am not envious of the decisions you may have to make but I most certainly will respect them.

Questions:
Is being banned and being deactivated the same thing?
Is it permanent?

I REALLY felt like being naughty and deactivating for a minute Very Happy

Depending on the poster they are the same. Many ppl banned have returned, and been welcome re additions. others we will not allow to return.

Deactivating/banning are technically different but the exact same effect for the poster.

Hard to ban a hamster though!

When i was on CTV boards i thought Coldwater cold ban people from the topic where they were causing problems from . I seem to Remember people saying they were banned from open court or things like that . Is that possible here to do that here if that was the way it was even done on CTV . Question

Joynow and VC... You both do a fantastic job running a forum with many different people, different views and with difficult decisions. You've both always been fair and just in your decisions.

I AM THE 20 CAR PostPosted: Sun Jul 09, 2006 2:16 am

Please read this - I dont post much and I wanted to FINALLY voice my opinion.

First, let me say, I love this forum , VC and Joy and most posters who I have known for years. Great forum and Great Owners.

I am going to go first here with an opinion I'll probably be bashed for...but oh well, here goes.

...Most posters here know me very well under different names on different sites.....and have also been very friendly with me - some for years. So , if you bash me now and treat me as usual on the OTHER sites tomorrow, I'll have your number.

With that said, heres my opinion.

First of all, I see no reason for most problem/drama info to be made public on this board. I dont think its any posters business if some other Website board owner/mod/poster, etc contacts the Refs owners and then threads like this started. If dirty laundry MUST be "announced" here, why not create a board for a Newsletter type thread and LOCK THE THREAD !
The fighting on this site is very immature in my opinion & others. When VC & Joy opened up the first Refs forum it was to help solve the obvious CTV/CW problem, etc. The problem is...yes, VC & Joy has said this is OUR board. OK, fine. Thats great. Finally posters were able to debate in a harsh way , if thats what you want to call it.
But by having the "anything goes" concept on the Refs forums , theres alot to be desired here.

When you run a board, you are running a business of sorts. Ive never known of a business announce to other businesses, competition and posters (employees) everything TO THE PUBLIC things like this.

You say you dont want drama, well, everytime a thread like this is made, that is exactly what it causes. There is no reason for admin or posters to post subjects like this. Talk about "creating" drama, it happens and IIT WORKS...

Imo, this site is starting to look , well, lets say TRASHY --- A Juvy Hall of sorts. I (among others) cant even read here much anymore due to the pics on some posts.
Hello, some of us do have children and clicking on a thread just to have a naked man , or whatever pop up makes it very hard to read here, and THAT is very sad. At this point, I think that the integrity is gone from here.
Besides the pics, the cussing is pathetic. I can hang with the best of sailors but WHY do some posters have to post

FUCK YOU , YOURE A BITCH, ETC.

It is very TACKY. Im suprised the Refs have any reputation at all anymore, especially when it comes to the media. jmo

Now, before everyone starts getting all worked up, please, just remember, most of you know me. Im one of the good guys and I have NEVER had a problem with any other posters on the Ref sites or any other site in years.

I hope this Forum can get it together, and very soon. Like I said, this is a GREAT SITE but ONLY FOR 1 THING ANYMORE.... "NEWS", THATS IT.

No offense to anyone, just voicing my opinion.

Well, 20 Car... it's a lightly moderated board according to "the rules". The primary subject is Natalee Holloway. There hasn't been a scrap of hard news on that case in a month, but there's a Cast of Characters like no case I've ever seen before. I think what's happening on the board is pretty normal and predictable. Spend some time on Usenet and you'll see what I mean.

I guess I missed the nudity.

Why do you expect a bashing from your post?

What surprises me though, and I am knew to this board, is if you are a member and never have had any problems, why can't you express yourself under the nik that everyone knows and discuss your issues with everyone? Why the need for a nik-nik to say what you said?

I agree with Reddog that this is an adult site, and children should not have access to it. If per chance, they do, well, it will not be the last time that they see bad language and depending on their age, it may have no effect on them at all.

It is very difficult on a low moderation board to monitor everything that is said. If I were in a conversation and the language turned so foul that it upset me, what's wrong with expressing your feelings and suggesting to the posters that clean it up a bit. You will always have a few guttergabbers who for lack of a vocabulary may take off on you, but you may also have considerable support from your fellow posters.

I just don't think you need to create a new nik to say these things.

Some people must not go to too many boards because this board, while low moderated, is nothing like some of them out there. Nothing says someone HAS to come to this board, if this board is not to their liking their are several more out there, both public and private.

If I recall correctly this board was started in order for a lot of CTV posters to get away from the high moderation and babysitting that was going on over there. It was not uncommon at CTV for a group of posters to whine and cry to the moderator about certain posters in order to get them banned or their posts deleted. If people come here from CTV, I'd be willing to venture a guess that they still go to the moderators trying to report posters and posts as it is hard to get past that CTV mentality.

If I don't like the poster, I ignore them, if I don't like the topic, I don't read it or participate. My choice pure and simple.

Afraid a child might walk by and see something offensive on your computer screen? Don't visit the site until they are tucked into bed or doing something else or buy one of those security screens for your monitor and adjust it so they can't see anything when they walk up.

We are responsible for the choices we make in life. As well, I doubt a message board is going to have any profound effect on my life anyway.

Did I even say my kids COULD read ? NO, I didnt. Go back and read what I said. I was referring to the pictures that "pop up".
