Anna Nicole Smith -- Playboy model, multimillionaire widow, tabloid favorite, new mom -- died today after her private nurse found her unconscious at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood.
Her sudden death at the age of 39 ended a meteoric, scandalous path through the celebrity stratosphere. An hour after Smith was reported unconscious, she was pronounced dead at Memorial Regional Hospital, Seminole Police Chief Charlie Tiger said at a press conference.
Smith became famous for being famous, with her over-the-top ways and revealing clothing and a two-year stint on a self-titled reality television show. Recently, she lost a reported 69 pounds and became a spokeswoman for TrimSpa, a weight-loss supplement. On her reality show and other recent TV appearances, her speech was often slurred and she seemed out of it. Some critics said she seemed drugged-out.
Smith was in two-bedroom suite with her private nurse at the time she became unconscious, Tiger said. The nurse called the hotel operator for help at 1:38 p.m.; seven minutes later, Smith was given CPR by her bodyguard at the Hard Rock before she was taken to the hospital. Smith was rushed to Memorial Regional Hospital under police escort, roads blocked off along the way, where she was pronounced dead at 2:49 p.m.
Tiger said Smith's death was not being treated as a crime, but crime scene investigators from the Seminole police and the Broward Sheriff's Office were going through the room on the 6th floor. An autopsy will be conducted Friday morning, Chief Investigator Edwina Johnson of the medical examiner's office said.

Smith and her lawyer boyfriend Howard K. Stern arrived at the Hard Rock on Monday and planned to check out tomorrow, said Michael Bloom, Hard Rock spokesman.
Three weeks after Daniel's death, the 1993 Playboy Playmate of the Year and Stern -- listed as Dannielynn's father on the birth certificate -- held a commitment ceremony in the Bahamas. Almost immediately after, her former boyfriend, photographer Larry Birkhead, filed suit in an attempt to force Smith to bring her daughter to California for paternity testing, saying he was the father.
Debra Opri, the attorney who filed his paternity suit, said Birkhead ``is devastated. He is inconsolable, and we are taking steps now to protect the DNA testing of the child. The child is our number one priority.''
Just last week week, three Los Angeles women filed suit Smith and the company she represented, TrimSpa Inc., accusing the company and its spokeswoman of using deceptive business practices to peddle the weight-loss supplement and of violating California's unfair competition law.
Smith had been no stranger to the courtroom. In 1995, Smith began a nearly 12-year legal battle over her the fortune of her late husband, J. Howard Marshall II. At the time of their 1994 marriage, Marshall was 89; Smith 26.
While the oil tycoon did not include Smith in his will, she argued he intended to provide for her through a special trust. She initially won a $474 million judgment, which was cut to about $89 million and eventually reduced to zero before the U.S. Supreme Court stepped in. That court said in May that only federal courts in California could deal with her case despite a Texas state court ruling that Marshall's youngest son was sole heir to the estate.
After news came of Smith's death, G. Eric Brunstad Jr., the lawyer who represented Marshall, said in a statement: ``We're very shocked by the news and extend the deepest condolences to her family.''
Added Wayne Munroe, her Bahamian lawyer who has overseen the aftermath of Daniel's death: ``From my professional exposure to Anna Nicole, I can say she was always personable, down to earth and driven. All in all, a joy to have as a client.''

Anna Nicole Smith Dead At 39
HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (February 8, 2007) -- Anna Nicole Smith, the voluptuous former Playboy centerfold who married an octogenarian billionaire and waged a legal battle for his fortune all the way to the Supreme Court, died Thursday after collapsing at a hotel. She was 39.
Anna Nicole was been rushed to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, Florida, shortly after 2 p.m. EST after collapsing at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood Access Hollywood and NBC affiliate WTVJ in Miami were first to report.
Edwina Johnson, chief investigator of the Broward County Medical Examiner's Office, said the cause of death was under investigation and an autopsy would be done on Friday.

I keep thinking of what happened to Marilyn Monroe.  Anna looked a lot like her imo, and their deaths were similar- people believe that Marilyn was murdered to this day. Wasn't Anna's big break through b/c of Guess Jeans and how much she resembled Marilyn.

Anna Nicole Smith will be remembered in Australia for her outrageous appearance at the inaugural MTV Australia Video Music Awards in Sydney in 2005, when she bared her breasts on stage.
The former playmate and former stripper who loved to shock has died at the age of 39, collapsing in a Florida hotel room.
Smith's death comes just five months after her 20-year-old son, Daniel Smith, died in the Bahamas following the birth of her daughter.
The buxom blonde's appearance in Australia also made headlines.
Presenting an MTV award at Sydney's Luna Park in March 2005, the notorious widow pulled her dress down to her waist to reveal 32DD-size breasts with pink MTV stickers on her nipples.
Later, at a press call, Smith again exposed her breasts - this time without the MTV stickers.
If organisers were looking for an outrageous publicity stunt, they got it.
Smith's behaviour in Australia followed controversy at the 2004 American Music Awards, where she was escorted off stage after rubbing her chest with her hand and asking the audience if they liked her body.
Prior to her Australian performance, she asked reporters at a news conference to promote the awards: "Y'all want me to strip, just let me know."
Smith also caused a sensation at a party in Sydney, arriving with two camera crews to record her appearance for a documentary before taking a shine to Packer magazine advertising executive Cameron Hoy.
"It was pretty hot," said one eyewitness later. "She was trying to get his shirt off at one stage."
The couple left together, dining at a swish Sydney restaurant before Smith surfaced the next day, nursing a hangover but declaring she was impressed with Australian men.
Mr Hoy later resigned from Packer's ACP magazine company.
Smith, who was born Vickie Lynn Hogan and raised in the small Texas town of Mexia, grew up emulating screen legend Marilyn Monroe.
She met elderly oil billionaire J Howard Marshall while dancing at a Houston strip club and married him in 1994, when she was 26 and he 89.
Marshall died the following year and Smith spent much of the following decade battling members of his family over his estate. In May 2006 the US Supreme Court ruled that Smith could pursue her case in federal court.
Smith, who modelled Guess Jeans, was named Playboy magazine's Playmate of the Year in 1994 and had film roles that year in The Hudsucker Proxy and Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult.
She later starred in her own self-titled reality-style television show.

I heard from various news sources that there's no direct 911 access
from the room phone. Seems strange that one has to contact the
hotel operator in order to get 911.
If Anna Nicole was merely unconscious when first found, there was
no need for CPR. The explanation may lie in the fact she stopped
breathing several minutes after being found.

I've now heard from 3 sources (albeit all were tv news sources)
that on Monday or Tuesday, Anna Nicole fell while showering and
hit her head. She did not seem to be hurt at the time and did not
seek medical attention.
There is also a story that tells of the nurse finding Anna Nicole
having choked on her own vomit.
.... I'm sure we're going to hear dozens of stories. FNC is
reporting this morning that someone is trying to sell a video
allegedly shot as paramedics were removing Anna from the hotel
as they performed CPR

Anna Nicole Smith's bizarre sudden death became even more twisted than her life yesterday as a series of revelations uncovered an ever-growing web of sexual intrigue, including the claim that her late billionaire husband may be the father of her infant daughter.
Is Dannielynn's father Howard K. Stern, Smith's lawyer who she claimed to have married in recent months? Is it Larry Birkhead, Smith's former lover? Or is it somebody else, enter Zsa Zsa Gabor's nutter husband, who claims he had an affair with Smith, or even the deceased J. Howard Marshall, the multi-millionaire Smith married years ago?
The stunning disclosures have been partially revealed by Anna's sister Donna Hogan and reprinted by the Daily News.
Hogan alleges that her sister "froze the sperm of 90-year-old J. Howard Marshall years ago," and believes that is what Anna used to become pregnant.
The former Playmate's ex beau Larry Birkhead claims he is the father of baby Dannielynn - the little girl who is poised to inherit up to half of Marshall's $1.6 billion fortune.
They weren't the only ones laying claim to billion dollar baby Dannielynn yesterday. Smith's mother, Vergie Arthur, flew to the Bahamas yesterday to see her grandchild for the first time. The infant had been left in friends' care in the Bahamas.
The topper was Zsa Zsa Gabor's crazy husband, Prince Frederic von Anhalt, claiming he fathered Smith's daughter. A publicist for Gabor, 90, said von Anhalt "was full of it."
But even the battle to be named the father of Dannielynn was overshadowed by the claims in Donna Hogan's manuscript.
In the new, yet to be published book "Train Wreck" - written with author Stacy Brown - Hogan says: "I wouldn't be shocked at all if it's J. Howard's. She saved his sperm after all and that maybe [sic] her trump card in her fight to get the old man's estate."
Hogan wrote that Smith was "seeing into the future. ... She takes Howard in to have his sperm tested. When the results show that he is still fertile, she has a quantity of his sperm frozen."
Hogan wrote that when her half-sister announced she was pregnant, she refused to name the father.
"To her family, she hinted that she had used the old man's frozen sperm, and would be giving birth to Howard Marshall's child," the manuscript claims, reports the Daily News.
Hogan had less than kind words for her dead sister. "That's my sister for you. That b---h probably doesn't even know who the father is. Soon she'll probably say it's J. Howard's," Hogan wrote.
Hogan could not be reached for comment yesterday, but in an interview with "Inside Edition" she said, "I don't want people to talk about the crazy stuff. ... I want them to remember her for being full of life."
Hogan retells the story of how her sister met "Old Man Howard" at a Houston strip club called Gigi's, where Smith worked as a stripper and the wheelchair-bound geriatric was a club regular.
"For several weeks, she played hard to get, before agreeing to grant him special favors outside the club," she wrote in her manuscript.
Smith married Marshall in 1994 when she was 26 and he was 89 - over the vociferous objections of Marshall's son, E. Pierce Marshall.
After the wedding, Hogan alleged "Vickie" - Anna's real name - treated her husband "like a dog."
"She refused to allow him to lie next to her, stating that he would urinate in bed," Hogan he wrote.
Allegedly Smith "tore through Marshall's finances" buying jewelry, houses, luxury cars while rampant infidelities were heaped "with household servants, girlfriends and married men."
Hogan alleges Anna dragged Marshall out to dinner even though he was ill and "left J. Howard in his wheelchair in the rain."
"Do you miss your rosebuds?" Smith said at one encounter with breasts bared and a tape recorder running, Hogan wrote.
"Train Wreck" details Hogan's account that Marshall "clearly loved Vickie," and that he called her almost daily, calls she allegedly ignored.
"On the night before he died, J. Howard refused Vickie's phone call. He died tired of Vickie," Hogan wrote.
Marshall's death in 1995 set off a titan sized court battle for his $1.6 billion estate that still continues.

(CBS) In an interview with The Saturday Early Show co-anchor Tracy Smith, Anna Nicole Smith's former manager characterized her as a troubled child-woman who was addicted to prescription drugs and was greatly changed by fame and fortune.
He also says he believes the father of her child is Larry Birkhead because of the physical resemblance he sees between photographs of Birkhead and infant Dannielynn.[/b] (For now, Smith's companion, Howard K. Stern, has custody of the child because his name is on her birth certificate.)
Eric Redding said Smith was "a very confused young lady from the beginning. Very child-like, almost like a kid, just like her son, Daniel. They did everything together. They were like brother and sister, to be honest, and very troubled for the last 16 years that I have known her."
"She has had a history, unfortunately, of... abusing the prescription medications," he added, telling Tracy Smith, "I think she overdosed on prescription medication... From the very first time we met her in 1991, she was having that problem: took pills to go to sleep, pills to get up, pills for any little pain. She was like a hypochondriac. She abused them. She was on 20 different medications that I knew about."
The body that brought Anna Nicole Smith money, men and fame went under a medical examiner's knife Friday. Despite all the talk of drug use, there were no findings of it.
"There were no findings that would indicate continuing drug abuse," said Dr. Joshua Perper, the Broward medical examiner. He called the process a "medical puzzle" and said it would take three to five weeks to conclude the investigation.

This just keeps getting weirder, sadder and much more complicated!
Shocking new details have emerged in the paternity lawsuit against Anna Nicole Smith.
Photographer Larry Birkhead, the blonde's ex-boyfriend and purported father of her newborn girl, claims....
- That Smith was taking methadone and that her attorney and "boyfriend" - Howard K. Stern - has been facilitating her habit. Methadone is the (legal) heroin substitute and pain medication that was found in the body of Anna's deceased son, Daniel.
- Smith's ex accused the TrimSpa spokeswoman of fleeing to the Bahamas to keep her baby from being tested for drugs.
- Birkhead also alleged that Stern is claiming to be Dannielynn's father for his own financial gain, and claims that Smith had asked a third unidentified man to say that he was the father of her child - a plan which didn't work out because the man had already had a vasectomy.
- Birkhead requested in his petition that Smith and her daughter undergo drug testing.
- According to Birkhead's attorney, Debra Opri, Birkhead is seeking legal and physical custody of the child.

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (AP) - Fans of Anna Nicole Smith aren't making pilgrimages to the place where she spent her final days. They're not leaving flowers. They're not gathering in crowds to express their grief.
Instead, emotions are being expressed in a way as uniquely modern as Smith's fame - on blogs, web pages and online message boards where true fans battle naysayers to get their voices heard.
"I loved her," fans beam. "I miss her," others write. "She was beautiful," they say.
On Facebook, hundreds of Anna Nicole pages are buzzing with gossip and outpourings of emotion. YouTube has logged hundreds of thousands of hits on Anna Nicole videos, including some fan-produced tributes. One fan put a message on Craigslist seeking others touched by her death for a candlelight vigil in New York's Union Square.
"I do almost feel like I've lost something. She was an inspiration to me," said Sian Richter, a 20-year-old office worker who has been posting messages and photos online from her London home and has been glued to E! coverage of her idol's death.
"I truly believe she had a lot of love to give and just wanted to be loved back," Richter said. "Also I looked up to her because of the background she came from. Humble roots and making it big time gave me inspiration."
Richter said she has handbags adorned with pictures of Smith, a bobblehead doll in the former Playboy model's likeness and recordings of episodes of "The Anna Nicole Show."
The medical examiner who performed an autopsy on Smith's body said it could take weeks to determine the cause of death. Dr. Joshua Perper, the Broward County medical examiner, said Friday that no illegal drugs were discovered in the 39-year-old Smith's room at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood where she collapsed Thursday.
In New York, Brian Hewson, a 26-year-old who works in a theatre box office, had followed Smith on and off for years and was shocked when a friend told him about her death.
"It doesn't even seem real," Hewson said. "If someone wrote this story, or it was on television, no one would think it had any realism to it. But these insane new developments just keep popping up."
In Kuala Lumpur, a huge photo of Smith in a bright red dress was splashed across the front page of the Star newspaper Saturday. Her image fronted the Iltalehti newspaper in Helsinki, Finland.
"I sympathize with her," said Catherine Toth, a 31-year-old resident of Hawaii Kai on the island of Oahu who pens "The Daily Dish" blog for the Honolulu Advertiser. "I saw so much tragedy in her life. I just kept hoping it would get better."
Billy Lowe, a hairstylist who frequently works with celebrities, said many people couldn't help but gasp when they heard news of Smith's death.
"We'll certainly miss her charm, her on-cam blunders and bloopers and we'll pray she's making the sandy shores in the hereafter very happy," he said.

Attorney: Bahamas- Anna Nicole's house taken by developer
NASSAU, Bahamas (AP) — The attorney for a U.S. developer who claims ownership of the waterfront mansion where Anna Nicole Smith lived in the Bahamas has retaken control of the residence, he said Saturday.
Godfrey Pinder, attorney for G. Ben Thompson, a former boyfriend of Smith's who was embroiled in an ownership dispute with the late 39-year-old reality TV star, said that Smith's death at a Florida hotel meant her claims to the mansion were no longer legitimate.
"We changed the locks and have put a chain on the gate," Pinder told The Associated Press in a brief phone interview. "We have physical control of the house."
The former Playboy playmate's ownership of the mansion, which her lawyer said she bought in July for $900,000 was the basis of Smith's claim to residency in the Bahamas. In her lawsuit, Smith asked the court to recognize her purchase and reject a claim by Thompson, a South Carolina developer.
Pinder said Bahamian Immigration Minister Shane Gibson's mother was permitted into the waterfront home late Friday to remove some of Smith's personal effects, including clothes and jewelry. He would not disclose further details about this latest twist in the tabloid saga.
Earlier Friday, a pickup carried a crib and an infant's car seat from the mansion in the exclusive New Providence neighborhood to Gibson's house in the middle-class Marathon area. Later, a baby could be heard crying inside the house. Gibson did not return calls seeking comment Saturday.
The infant, Dannielynn Hope Marshall Stern, was not with Smith on Thursday when she died in Florida. But the exact whereabouts of the baby, who is at the center of a broadening custody battle, remained unconfirmed Saturday.
Experts say the decision of who receives custody could determine the child's inheritance. Smith was in a long legal battle over the fortune of her late husband, Texas oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall II.
Smith's mother arrived Friday in Nassau, where the late star's son died last year under mysterious circumstances, to check on the welfare of her granddaughter, a police official has said.
Reginald Ferguson, assistant commissioner for the Royal Bahamas Police Force, said Smith's mother Vergie Arthur believes her granddaughter is in Nassau. Ferguson said Arthur was traveling in a limousine with a pack of international camera crews.
Arthur, who is reportedly staying in a resort hotel in Nassau's famed Cable Beach, could not be contacted for comment Saturday. She told ABC's "Good Morning America" that she believes her daughter died from a drug overdose.

All hell broke loose. Already, Marshall's two sons, Pierce and J Howard III, were barely on speaking terms, with each other or their father. Pierce immediately set about securing control of the family money, persuading his father to sign the deed of appointment on a new trust he had set up.
Anna Nicole's last interview was for Entertainment Tonight, which revealed that she almost died a few weeks ago, after being found face down in a swimming pool at her home in the Bahamas. "Everyone in my life has stabbed me in my back," she said. "It's always a battle." Hers was the death of a woman who had briefly tasted both wealth and fame and failed to cling on to either.

I know one thing, if you watched Anna's reality series, she was not in the least bit attracted to Howard. Howard followed her around like a dog in heat. When she needs someone to cover as Dannielynn's father, Howard conveniently is the supposed father. I personally feel the whole wedding on the 23rd was nothing more than a sham. I do not believe that after all these years of Howard hovering over her, and her not being the least bit interested in him, that all of the sudden when the baby comes into the picture, he's the father, and she's in love with him. Believe me, Daniel was extremely embarrased by his mother many times that I recall on her program.

Thanks Hannie.. I loved the one of her and the billionare hubby ridding on the four wheeler. I also watched the one of the interview with her mom and I didn't get the impression that she's some vulture. To me she spoke from the heart. Just an average mom who's had concerns about her daughter for a long time. Those fears came true.

TrimSpa Moving on Without Anna Nicole
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- Officials from the weight-loss supplement company whose ads featured the late Anna Nicole Smith said Saturday future ads will focus on ordinary people.
In a statement issued Saturday night, TrimSpa Chief Executive Officer Alex Goen said that while Smith's dramatic weight loss from the product had "helped to catapult the brand," he said its success "is not simply the result of Anna Nicole Smith."
Smith died suddenly on Thursday at 39. No cause of death has been determined.
The company will now rely on its less-famous customers as spokespeople, people who TrimSpa President Tony Azzizzo described in the statement as "your neighbors, friends, family members."
Azzizzo said the brand "now has thousands of successful weight loss spokespersons, albeit less heralded. Their weight loss experience is no less celebrated for them as Anna's was to the world."
TrimSpa has taken heat for some of their ads in the past. Earlier this month, Smith and TrimSpa were named in a class-action lawsuit alleging their marketing of a weight-loss pill is false or misleading. The Federal Trade Commission also recently announced the company would pay $1.5 million to settle allegations that the company's weight-loss claims were unsubstantiated.
