Whadyaget?

What are some of you favorite (most memorable) toys as a child?

Close 'N Play
Who can forget those! Portable battery powered record players (45 RPM only), which played when you put the record inside and closed the top.

Colorforms
Vinyl shapes of super heros, cartoon characters, that would stick to a themed background.

Dippity Glass
You formed the wire into shapes such as flowers, bugs, etc., and dipped it into various colors of liquid plastic film which when dried looked kind of like stained glass.

Ker-Plunk!!
A clear cylinder with holes that you stuck wooden sticks through, in a criss-cross manner. Once all the sticks were in, you filled the top of the cylinder with marbles. One by one, each player would draw out a stick, until all the marbles ker-plunked down to the bottom!

Shaker Makers
You poured this pink stuff into a mold and shook it for a few minutes and it made hippie guy or hippie girl. once it hardened you painted it.
Damn it All!!!!

I got one of those cars that had peddles. Ya know way before the motorized ones kids have these days. I also had a doll the same size as me when I was 5. Those were the bestest ones I got.

The best thing I ever got for the holidays came early. My uncle built a little playhouse outside for my sister & I . It had windows, a door with lock (I don't think the lock worked, we were given 'skeleton keys'), and electric lights/outlets.

My other uncle and aunt bought us furniture. There was a little refrigerator, stove/oven, cupboard, and table and chairs.

The little house had curtains, dishes, etc.

Lots of fun in that house.

I loved Close 'n Play and Colorforms. I'd forgotten all about them. Laughing

Lite Brite was fun, too.

I used to make messages to my sister on Lite Brite. I guess that was my first real experience with posting my opinions. Laughing

The Madame Alexander baby dolls, clothes, bicycles, etc. were always favorites, but my most memorable gift was my very own Border Collie puppy when I was six. He was black with white markings and Butch was a great companion for years. He loved going out to the family farm where he would promptly try to herd any farm animal--cows, horses, chickens--into a tight group and not let them stray away.

That first real grown up bicycle has to be the most memorable gift received.

Barbie Play House....I'm so jealous! Twisted Evil My mom would never let me play with Barbie b/c she didn't think it was "proper" to have a doll with breasts. Laughing Seems hilarious to me now but not so much back then. Sad

Probably before your time, Diva, but there used to be an anatomically correct "Joey" doll, (from Joey on All in the Family) and I couldn't have him either. Sad All my dolls had to be free from genitalia. Laughing

Creepy Crawlers: It came with bottles of liquid rubber which you poured into this cooker thing and you made your own spiders. worms, etc.

Patty Playpal.

Madame Alexander Baby Dear, Baby Dear I & II and all the little dolls from different natioins (I still have them).

Thumbelina and Betsey Wetsey.

Barbie's First Car (it was an awful orangy-flesh color Corvair-type affair).

I remember these! Not the others though...?

I had a toy grocery shopping cart that looked just like the real ones, not those plastic things they have out now in loud colors.

I remember when Hungry Hungry Hippos was a new game, and Mousetrap was cool.

I had a Barbie Dream House when they were the A-frame style. Mine had yellow floors and a red roof Shocked (some were pink)

Yeah I had a Lite Brite--fun! I had one of the first EZBake ovens too--I think-- at least it was new to me. Bake a little cake with a light bulb, lol.

My favorite ever was the year the original Nintendo came out, with Super Mario Brothers and Duck Hunt, and Legend of Zelda (best game EVER!)

Does anyone else remember a game called Whosit? It's from the 70s...

Silly putty was great, too!

Oh Danse, I so agree with you about Zelda. My son got the original Nintendo, not me Very Happy but I sure remember all those games. I used to stay up late at night playing Zelda, long after he went to bed....I was absolutely addicted! I heard there is a new Zelda out now! When I see the video games now I am just totally floored, as the graphics and all are SO improved from the original versions. But they were SO much fun. The original Mario Brothers was so cool, too!
