Islamic Terrorism revealed
While 33 people were killed at Virginia Tech, 180 died in Iraq’s religious war the same day.
A 2 hour per night examination of this threat, called “America at a Crossroad” is being broadcast on PBS ( Public Broadcasting System ) stations this week. http://www.pbs.org/weta/crossroads/
The first program on Sunday covered the genesis of the religious war. JIHAD: THE MEN AND IDEAS BEHIND AL QAEDA was about Qutb, the Egyptian cleric who inspired Ayman al-Zawahiri, and the Saudi Arabian Wahabi sect of Islam that inspired Osama Bin Ladin.
The second program was a journalistic embed of reporters covering the day to day operations of U.S. occupation troop’s activities; Followed by a very interesting compilation of poetry, prose and art work by the soldiers describing their role in Iraq.
Tuesday’s program dealt with the background of the religious militias involved in the civil war, such as the the Badr Corps and the Mehdi Army, and included an interview with the U.S. commander, Gen. David Petraeus.
The fourth program featured Former Assistant Secretary of Defense Richard Perle, one of the main Neo-Conservative architects of the U.S. intervention in Iraq, giving his justifications for it. Neo Cons advocate liberal/progressive policies of pushing democracy on other nations, which is a complete reversal of the original Conservative position of minding our own business.
And last night’s programs were about the Islamic home grown terrorism in Europe, And why this home grown terrorism has not occorred in the U.S. The main reason is that Muslims in America have the freedom to assimilate as they wish, whereas in Europe government policies dictate their socio-economic situation, which causes resentment leading to violence.
Tonight’s program follows the journey through Muslim culture of Irshad Manji, the author of a book calling for reform of Islam to reconcile her faith in Allah with her love of freedom, including an interview with Ayaan Hirsi Ali. The second hour looks at the world’s largest Islamic nation, Indonesia.
Rebroadcasts of earlier programs can often be recorded in early morning hours repeats – check your local PBS station for possible scheduling.

If anyone still had doubts that President George W. Bush's Iraq policy is a failure, they should listen to the generals who declined the administration's offer of the position of “czar” to oversee the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan
Three prominent retired four-star generals: retired Gen. Jack Keane, former Army vice chief of staff retired Air Force Gen. Joseph Ralston, former vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; and retired Marine Gen. John Sheehan, former NATO commander; have been asked if they'd be interested in the job—and all of them said no.
Gen. Sheehan, the only one who talked on the record with the Wasington Post reportedly said . "I've never agreed on the basis of the war, and I'm still skeptical," Sheehan said. "Not only did we not plan properly for the war, we grossly underestimated the effect of sanctions and Saddam Hussein on the Iraqi people." "The very fundamental issue," he said, referring to Bush and his aides, "is they don't know where the hell they're going."

The first of last night’s programs in the PBS TV series on Islamic Terrorism, about a Canadian women trying to reform Islam, was the most mediocre of the series. But the second hour, on the spread of fundamentalist Islam in Indonesia, was an excellent examination of how the doctrine behind the Jihad is spreading throughout the Muslim world.
Tonight’s first program, “SECURITY VERSUS LIBERTY” is about the potential threat the war poses to Civil Liberties in the U.S; And the second examines The Muslim Brotherhood, a secretive, international movement dedicated to the spread of a fundamentalist version of Islam throughout the world
Video clips which give the gist of each program in the series are available for viewing on-line here: http://www.pbs.org/weta/crossroads/about/show_jihad.html and on each subsequent page for each program in the series.
The PBS series also has a discussion guide on its comprehensive website http://www.pbs.org/weta/crossroads/discussionguide/perspectives.html which poses some interesting questions. For example:
“Many U.S. citizens perceive their country’s role in the world as a promoter of freedom and justice. Yet, this image of the United States is not held by many people around the world. Identify current policies of the U.S. government that contradict the rhetoric of promoting freedom and democracy. How can the United States do a better job of improving its image to the rest of the world?”

What did that mouse say ?
Farfur ( The butterfly ) on "Tomorrow's Pioneers," a weekly children's show on Al-Aqsa TV, the Hamas-owned and operated television station in Gaza.
The child host and Mickey Mouse-like character speak to an off-screen child caller named "Sanabel." What exactly are Mickey and his friend saying?
MEMRI a privately funded, pro-Israeli group translates one caller as saying, "We will annihilate the Jews."
But, according to several Arabic speakers used by CNN, the caller actually says, "The Jews are killing us."

The Mouse that Roared
Hamas-run television again defied Israel with a Mickey Mouse lookalike preaching resistance. On Thursday, the chairman of the Al-Aqsa board, Fathi Hamad, refused to bow to pressure to pull the programme or to doctor its content. In Friday's episode, in a “the dog ate my homework” moment, Farfur said: "Because the Jews destroyed my home and I left my books and notes under the rubble."
An excellent 5 minute news segment on this story by Ben Wedeman is being televised on CNN headine news today at the end of each ½ hour news report.
Bordering Switzerland and France in the Alps, tiny (3 miles by 5 miles) Grand Fenwick’s economy is almost entirely dependent on making Pinot wine. In the comedy movie, The Mouse that Roared, starring Peter Sellears, it declares war on the United States after a US-produced wine threatens to undermine their economy.
Expecting to be dealt a crushing defeat (and then rebuild itself through the largess that the United States bestows on its vanquished enemies such as in the Marshall Plan ) the tiny Duchy instead defeats the United States, purely by accident, by capturing the Q-bomb, a doomsday device that could destroy the world if triggered.

Famous Last Words
Taliban Commander Mullah Dadullah said he was training American and British citizens to carry out suicide missions in their home countries, according to a videotape interview broadcast on ABC News' "World News" tonight. "We will be executing attacks in Britain and the U.S. to demonstrate our sincerity," he told an Afghan interviewer, "to destroy their cities as they have destroyed our cities."
A day and a half after the interview, U.S. forces carried out a helicopter assault on Dadullah's hiding place in Afghanistan's Helmand Province. Dadullah's bullet-riddled body was put on display by Afghan officials to confirm he was dead.
