Coup in Venezuela????

I am not at all psychic but I would bet that there will be end of the week trouble in Venezuela before Sunday's vote.

Events Are Ugly and Coming to A Head

Through the dominant media, Washington and Venezuelan anti-Chavez elements are using constitutional reform as a pretext for what they may have in mind - "to arouse the military to intervene" and oust Chavez, as Petras notes in his article titled "Venezuela: Between Ballots and Bullets." He explains the opposition "rich and privileged (coalition) fear constitutional reforms because they will have to grant a greater share of their (considerable) profits to the working class, lose their monopoly over market transactions to publicly owned firms, and see political power evolve toward local community councils and the executive branch."

Petras is worried and says "class polarization....has reached its most extreme expression" as December 2 approaches: "the remains of the multi-class coalition embracing a minority of the middle class and the great majority of (workers) is disintegrating (and) political defections have increased (including 14) deputies in the National Assembly." Add to them former Chavez Defense Minister, Raul Baduel, who Petras believes may be "an aspirant to head up a US-backed right-wing seizure of power."

The situation is ugly and dangerous, and lots of US money and influence fuels it. Petras puts it this way: "Venezuelan democracy, the Presidency of Hugo Chavez and the great majority of the popular classes face a mortal threat." An alliance between Washington, local oligarchs and elitist supporters of the "right" are committed to ousting Chavez and may feel now is their best chance. Venezuela's social democracy is on the line in the crucial December 2 vote, and the entire region depends on it solidifying and surviving.

Every time somebody mentions Dave being a Navy Seal I can't help
but laugh out loud. That has to be one of the silliest things I've ever
heard. Will believe it when it's confirmed by an Admiral

Venezuela's Chavez Says CNN Incites Assassination, Seeks Probe

By Helen Murphy

Nov. 28 (Bloomberg) -- Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez alleged Time Warner Inc.'s CNN is seeking to incite his assassination and called for an investigation of the cable- television news channel.

``I want the state prosecutor to look into bringing a suit against CNN for instigating murder in Venezuela,'' Chavez said last night on state-owned Venezolana de Television.

CNN said in a statement that it inadvertently showed a video of Chavez and Colombian President Alvaro Uribe on its Spanish language channel with an erroneous caption that read ``Who killed him?''

It's not the first time the government calls for a probe of CNN's programming. In May, Communications and Information Minister Willian Lara asked the attorney general to investigate CNN and local television station Globovision for ``lies'' and inciting violence against Chavez.

``This headline did not refer to either of the two presidents, but rather to the death of American football player Sean Taylor, a fact made clear by the anchor in his voiceover,'' CNN said in an e-mailed statement. ``The video of presidents Chavez and Uribe was used by mistake and corresponded to a preceding story. CNN en Espanol regrets the error.''

CARACAS, Venezuela: President Hugo Chavez called for an investigation into CNN, saying the news network was seeking his assassination after its Spanish-language channel ran an image of the Venezuelan leader next to a caption that read, "Who killed him?"

CNN apologized Wednesday and blamed a technical mix-up, saying the caption referred to a story about Washington Redskins football star Sean Taylor, who was shot this week in his Florida home.

CNN en Espanol ran the caption for several seconds Tuesday night during a story on a spat between Chavez and Colombian President Alvaro Uribe.

"It's weird, and it needs investigation," Chavez said later that night on state television. "One should ask for an investigation because it looks like a call to kill the president in Venezuela."

He added that he doubted it was an accident and called on his attorney general to launch a probe into the incident.

Quilla from Alabama said it was the father that went to Sanford.

Rumor out of Birmingham implies the girl is still alive and mercenaries have been hired to get her. The father went to Sanford Univ. and his friends from college, who are still in Birmingham, believe he was at one time involved in some sort of Special Ops branch of the military. The father flew down immediately after learning of the girl's failure to return and friends of the family flew down on a Books-A-Million jet yesterday. My source in Birmingham is making a few calls and will call me back with additional details after lunch.
