That is food for thought. I agree with a lot of this on a moral level although I don't really think it's completely comparable.
It shouldn't be justified though and where are the adults in her life?
I don't know why this hits me, maybe because I see Miley herself being blamed in the media and the fact that she's just a kid and it looks like she may go down the same road as some other kid stars but the problem as i see it is the adults who are behind her. Do they have her interests at heart or her welfare at heart or are they only interested in hopping aboard and riding the money train.
Or maybe it's because I sat through too many episodes of the Hannah Montana shows and marathons these past few years and see that she was just a sweet kid and now this.
There's a few other kids that are coming out of those Disney Channel shows. Raven Simone the girl who played Olivia on the Cosby show is another one, she has her own show on Disney, sings and is about to go on tour. Then there's the kids from High School Musical who are breaking out.
Seems to me the kid stars and kid celebrities that go down this road are the ones with the whacko adults surrounding them. |
I saw the High School Musical show last night. I wish I brought ear plugs because the shrieking young girls were deafening! The show was very wholesome, though it was very simplistic. More of a skating expedition, than much of anything else.
I had taken my 3 yr. old grandson and my near 4 yr. old nephew, I was unaware of the age group this show really attracts. I thought there would be some Disney characters! They still enjoyed the show, we had ring side seats that I think helped in keeping them interested.

That movie was crazy, lol. It kinda' reminds me of Jodi in that movie too, now that ya mention it! |
It reminds me more of the movie, "Pretty Baby" where 13 yr. old Brook Shields is carried out on a platform as the virgin being introduced within a brothel.
Brooke Shields
AKA Brooke Christa Shields
Born: 31-May-1965
Birthplace: New York City
Gender: Female
Religion: Roman Catholic
Race or Ethnicity: White
Sexual orientation: Straight
Occupation: Model, Actor
Nationality: United States
Executive summary: Suddenly Susan
Brooke Shields got an early start in modeling when her mother, an aspiring actress, signed her up for an Ivory Snow commercial when she was only eleven months old. Her mother was reportedly so afraid of crib death that she bound the sleeping Brooke to her body at night with a cloth before going to sleep. The mother-daughter team didn't seem to be much farther apart for the next 30 years.
In 1978 a barely adolescent Shields played a child prostitute in Louis Malle's Pretty Baby with Susan Sarandon as her mother. Audiences were sufficiently disturbed by Shields's nude scenes that she spoke before a Congressional inquiry, testifying that some of the most scandalous scenes had been filmed by older body doubles. Nude pictures of Shields, taken when she was 10, surfaced when she was 15, and mother and daughter sued to have them suppressed. The court decided the contracts were in order and deemed the photos "art".
Shields captured the essence of the virgin-whore, as she famously proclaimed "Nothing comes between me and my Calvins", yet filmed commercials warning teen girls against the perils of too-early sex. In 1980's Blue Lagoon, the movie for which the teenage Shields is probably most famous, her hair was reportedly glued to her breasts to prevent them from showing. In her autobiography, On My Own -- written at 16 -- Shields stated her intention to abstain from premarital sex. Reportedly her contract with her publisher required her to remain a virgin for a specified number of years after publication of the book. She received Golden Raspberry Awards as Worst Actress for Blue Lagoon in 1980, and Speed Zone in 1989. She was also nominated for Endless Love in 1981, and Sahara in 1984.

Damn! That is more provocative than the other photo with her back exposed! I'm far more shocked by this photo. They sure don't look like a father appropriately posing with his daughter. |
Oh I totally agree!

LOL..that's funny.
The HSM Ice Tour is different than the movies. The ice tour was more than likely a way for Disney to capitalize off the movies.
The movies came out on the Disney Channel in 2006 and 2007 and are this tween and teen generation's version of Grease. It was pretty crazy, they became a phenomenon. The kids in the movie are all teen idols now. I think the soundtrack was #1. And it's also on dvd which I forget what crazy number the dvd's sold at.
LOL, when High School Musical 2 premiered on Disney, kids had parties just to watch it. My daughter went to one with about 25-30 kids.
Just shows that kids and teens crave some good wholesome entertainment.
And I agree with you about the picture with Miley and Billy Ray.

I was surprised as to how many teen boys were there too. True, it's great that there are still young people that enjoy a good clean show! To think I was afraid they wouldn't sell a lot of tickets for this show. The place was packed, and then there were tickets being sold in the paper for a $100.00 a piece. Now Ringling and Barnum is coming, and I'm not sure I can afford to buy tickets. The four ringside seats cost a small fortune to buy.

Miley Cyrus cancels Florida appearance
ORLANDO, Florida (AP) -- Disney says Miley Cyrus won't be attending her first scheduled public appearance since Vanity Fair published photos that have thrown her status as a role model for young girls into question.
The 15-year-old star of "Hannah Montana" for weeks has been scheduled to appear at a red carpet event Friday.
But Disney confirms she is no longer expected to attend.
Cyrus was to appear at a media party in Orlando, Florida on Friday.
Disney did not elaborate Thursday on the change in Cyrus' status for the party.
The Vanity Fair photos, showing Cyrus' bare shoulders and back, were taken by renowned celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz.
Leibovitz and the magazine defended the pictures, saying the singer, her parents and her handlers approved of the images during the shoot.
