The Court Reporter or her scopist generally will have transcripts
available within 24 to 48 hrs. Anyone who wishes to purchase a
hard copy of a transcript or part thereof, needs to pay.
When Timex was providing transcripts for the Scott Peterson case, we all
contributed $$ to gain access. She would get the transcripts and post
them and we had passwords to be able to read them.
I doubt sincerely that someone will spend hundreds of hours transcribing
the testimony from this trial and posting it online for all to read free of
charge. Short excerpts or summaries perhaps ...

Heck, even the defense has to pay for transcripts. No way they will be published online. CNN managed to do so in the OJ case, but IIRC it costs them tens of thousands of dollars. Average rate is $1.00/page. If media wishes to post them online, they have to compensate what the courts will lose in doing so.

Only $1.00 per page?
In my jurisdiction, the first copy ordered of any court transcript is
billed out by the Court Reporter at $3.00 per page. All subsequent
copies ordered/provided are $.50 per page. You make a killing on
transcripts although a Court Reporter is paid $23.50 per hour for
his/her time in the courtroom.

I am thinking there will be transcripts on line so that should work and take the burden off you. |
I am quoting myself to say I had no idea transcripts were not online. My bad.

Grading Entwistle opening
Posted by Joe Dwinell at 8:05 pm
First impressions are worth their weight in gold (maybe gas now that it’s $4 a gallon) making Friday’s opening of the Neil Entwistle murder case precious moments. But, from the second row where this blogger sat, there was a surprise winner.
We begin with …
MICHAEL FABBRI — The assistant district attorney was so soft spoken in his opening the judge asked him to “Speak up.” Nobody in the packed courtroom could make out his first few sentences. “What’s he saying?” a few whispered.
It was a touch of courtroom theater. Nobody could hear him – except the jury. Fabbri has never attempted to impress anyone. He has a job to do and his audience (remember, know your audience!) is the jury. They could hear him fine. All eyes were right on him.
Fabbri used Neil’s own words to make his point. Neil didn’t call 911 … he didn’t stab himself to commit suicide after finding the bodies of his wife, Rachel, and child, Lillian Rose, because “it would hurt” … he could “see the hole in Lilly,” even though, Fabbri said, she was “covered by a comforter and a pillow and Rachel’s arm” … he didn’t go to the wake … or the funeral … he agreed to pay $2,700 a month in rent ($8,100 up front) for the Hopkinton home and he didn’t have a job … he surfed the Web for sex and ways to kill, he added … he ditched the family BMW and flew home to England … tests will show, he added, Neil’s DNA is on the grip of the gun; Rachel’s on and inside the muzzle … a British buddy, Dash Munding, told him the cops were coming while Neil was entering the London subway system, so Fabbri said Neil responded, “Is there another way off this platform?”
GRADE: B+ … for bringing the jury back to the basic allegations.
ELLIOT WEINSTEIN — “Neil loved his wife and Neil loved his daughter,” the defense started, adding “everything he did after (finding the murdered bodies of both) he did because he loved them.”
That’s a statement he must answer or he’s lost the jury. It was one of many open-ended hints dropped by this legal boxer. Weinstein kept throwing counter punches to the DA’s timeline.
Weinstein hinted at “tensions” in the Carver home where Neil, Rachel and little Lilly stayed for about four months after moving back to the states from England. In the biggest legal balloon, Weinstein raised the specter of someone else having access to Neil’s laptops. The very same laptops prosecutors say he used to troll the Web for porn, escorts and ways to kill. “Evidence will show others also used those computers,” said Weinstein in his opening. His voice was clear and his words resonated across the court.
But he didn’t unveil and major surprises. What does he know?
GRADE: B … for basically doing as expected.
JUDGE DIANE KOTTMYER — “Hearken to the evidence,” the jury was told by the clerk, giving the proceedings a timeless feel.
Then it was the judge’s turn.
Judge Diane Kottmyer — in a clear, strong voice — told the jurors “do not discuss the case” because, “once a statement is made you lose control of it.” That’s for sure. This trial is costing Bay State taxpayers thousands of dollars (I’ll get the tally) because Neil Entwistle declared himself broke, so both his defense attorneys are paid for by the state. The court time, the court officers, the court work, the lunch for the jurors, the $50 a day per juror … it all adds up. Talking about this case will toss it all right out the window and we’ll get to do this all over again.
“You can talk about sports, politics, world events … even the weather,” she said, not this case. “Don’t even look up a word in the dictionary. You have no homework!” Judge the facts of the case, she said, and show up on time.
GRADE: A … for she’s absolutely right! This is a murder case. It doesn’t get any more serious.
STEPHANIE PAGE — The defense co-counsel cross-examined the first witness, Priscilla Matteerazzo (see previous post and story) … so it’s too soon to weigh her performance. But, keep an eye on this savvy defender.
GRADE: Incomplete
See you in court.
