Police arrest 15-year-old in Albany girl's shooting death
ALBANY, N.Y. - Albany police say a 15-year-old boy is charged with second-degree murder in the death of a 10-year-old girl who was shot on a city street.
Jermayne Timmons was charged Tuesday evening in the death of Kathina Thomas, who was struck in the shoulder by a stray bullet while playing outside her home on May 29.
Albany City Court Judge William Carter sent Timmons to a detention center without bail. The Albany High School student was charged as a juvenile offender and faces a maximum sentence of 15 years to life in prison if convicted.
According to a police statement, Timmons was identified as a suspect through a nearly two-week investigation.
Hundreds of mourners attended Kathina's funeral Monday. She was buried Tuesday morning.

Tough sentence for a 15-year old.
What was his motive? Or was it accidentally that he shot the girl while he was playing with a gun?

Actually, this 15 year-old is getting off rather easily. Children over the age of 14 are most often tried as adults, and face LWOP for such crimes. 10 - 13 year-olds can be charged with murder, but have a chance at parole.

Thanks, Woe.
Is that in most of the States in the US? As I have read Texas is tough and wondered how a similar crime is handled in other States.

Many states have such laws now. Florida is mandatory LWOP for anyone convicted of 1st degree murder. I think the youngest so far was 12 years old at the time of the crime.
