Stepha's Mother was on GVS on July 31; here's the interview -
Aspiring Lawyer Stepha Henry Still Missing After Two Months
Tuesday, July 31, 2007
GRETA VAN SUSTEREN, HOST: She will come home alive. That's what Stepha Henry's mother has been saying since Memorial Day weekend, and is still saying that tonight.
This is a bizarre mystery we are following closely. The 22-year-old aspiring lawyer vanished two months ago in Miami. Stepha was there visiting family over Memorial Day weekend. On the final night of her trip, Stepha went out to a local nightclub called Peppers with a male acquaintance.
This man, who is not a suspect, told police he left the club alone, but Stepha stayed behind. What happened next? Her family and the police don't know, and a desperate hunt is underway to find Stepha.
Her mother, Sylvia Henry, has left her job and home in Brooklyn, New York, and moved to Miami. Sylvia Henry joins us live from Miami. Welcome, Sylvia.
SYLVIA HENRY, STEPHA HENRY'S MOTHER: Thank you.
VAN SUSTEREN: Sylvia, I know you and your husband have been on before, and I guess this is a stupid question, but how are you doing?
HENRY: Well, I am very sad. It's very, very difficult for me to survive each day without Stepha.
VAN SUSTEREN: Is there any update in the search for your daughter?
HENRY: Well, the detectives are still looking for that black car that's missing, that blackAcura Integra that is missing. That is the key evidence that they need for this case.
VAN SUSTEREN: Is that the car that the acquaintance she went to the club with was driving that night?
HENRY: Yes.
VAN SUSTEREN: Have they asked him where the car is?
HENRY: Well, the detectives interviewed him. I don't know what happened after that, because they still didn't find the car. So I don't know what happened during the investigation.
VAN SUSTEREN: Sylvia, one of the things that we find on this show, often adding to the heartache, is you don't get a lot of information from the police, that they are busy with other cases, or they don't call you.
What's your relationship? Are you getting calls returned from the police? Are you getting information as much as they can give you?
HENRY: Well, the detectives tell me as much as they can. Not on a daily basis. Sometimes I call them, or sometimes they call me. Whenever they have leads, they check the leads out. And if it's something that they don't want to tell me to raise my hopes up, they don't tell me.
VAN SUSTEREN: I know your life and your husband's, on top of this heartache, has been turned upside down. Have you completely moved to Miami for the duration of this search?
HENRY: Yes, I am. I came down here on the 31st of May, and I'm still here.
VAN SUSTEREN: How do you do this financially?
HENRY: I got a lot of donations from the people in the community and different businesses. The Caribbean Committee, they are all helping me to survive each day financially.
VAN SUSTEREN: But you and your husband — he has gone back home to work, is that right?
HENRY: Yes. He is back in New York.
VAN SUSTEREN: And you have another daughter?
HENRY: Yes, Shola. She is 16. She is in New York also.
VAN SUSTEREN: How is she doing?
HENRY: She had a lot of sleepless nights. And she calls me at night crying, sometimes at 1:00 or 2:00 in the morning. And I have to be up with her, praying with her, or both of us crying at the same time.
VAN SUSTEREN: Have you have spoken to this male acquaintance that your daughter went off to the nightclub with?
HENRY: No. The detectives didn't give me any information on him, so I haven't spoken to him.
VAN SUSTEREN: Do you believe that he is not a suspect? We are told that he is not a suspect, but are you curious what he knows?
HENRY: Yes, I am very curious. But I have to leave it to the detectives to do the investigation.
VAN SUSTEREN: Do you know how your daughter even knew this guy?
HENRY: It was a friend of her school friend.
VAN SUSTEREN: She had just finished college, but you don't know if she ever knew him before this night?
HENRY: I'm sure she knew him before, yes, because he is a friend of her good school friend from high school.
VAN SUSTEREN: Sylvia, we certainly put your daughter's picture up. And if anyone has any information, I hope they will call the police immediately, because you and I have spoken before, and I know that this is extraordinarily difficult, and you want answers.
Sylvia, thank you, and good luck.
HENRY: Thank you very much, Greta.

Her family seems to be a very strong and loving one; they are behaving with such grace and courage. My prayers are with Stepha, her family, and friends.

Thank you so much for the information, tulsad.
I agree the family is showing grace and courage.
Must be so heartbreaking for her family and friends.
I hope this can be resolved, particularly finding Stepha Henry alive.

We both had the same thought!!! I getsuch a bad feeling, real tightness in my gut, these beautiful brilliant young people with their whole lives before them. As young undergrad or grad students,we had such positive outlooks, great expectations. Had some fun , took a few chances, got on with our lives & looked forward to having spouses /partners , starting families....... I remember as a grad student traveling in Europe in loosely linked groups...wondering why my parents were so worried.....
God please give us some answers....PLEASE SEND STEPHA HOME TO HER LOVING FAMILY!!!!

So true Schmerty.
Here's a blog from usatoday, http://blogs.usatoday.com/ondeadline/2007/06/you_still_dont_.html
Stepha Henry is still missing. But since yesterday, Google News has indexed just three stories that mention the 22-year-old black New Yorker who disappeared two weeks ago in Miami.
During the same period, the site found 525 stories that mentioned Kelsey Smith, the white girl who was kidnapped and killed in Kansas, and 6,581 news stories that mentioned "Paris Hilton," the celebrity who is famous for being famous. (Even Natalee Holloway, the Alabama girl who went missing in Aruba two years ago, earned more mentions than Henry.)
WABC-TV, one of the few news outlets that appears to be covering the case, reports that Henry's parents have traveled to Florida in search of their daughter. "Stepha, I love you very much, and you know I need you home," Sylvia Henry tells the ABC affiliate. "And I would like you to please, if you could even talk, wherever you are, tell someone to call your mother or call someone and we'll come get you."
Detectives in Miami-Dade say she was last seen inside a night club, and telephone records indicate that she last checked her voicemail at 4:13 a.m. on May 29. They are looking for a man in a black car who may have come in contact with Henry around the time she was last seen.
As we reported last week, MSNBC canceled segments on the Henry case in favor of wall-to-wall coverage of the Hilton saga that was then unfolding in Hollywood.
This raises an age-old question: Why do some people get more coverage than others? John Ridley thinks he knows the answer: "We've gotta tread carefully here because race is not a factor in the cases of these women gone missing. But race clearly is a factor to the media and in regard to the news they chose to report."
Almost two years ago, USA TODAY's Mark Memmott -- yes, the same intrepid reporter who writes On Politics -- reported on this phenomenon in a piece entitled "Spotlight skips cases of missing minorities."
The National Center for Missing Adults has statistics and other information. America's Most Wanted has added Henry to its website, and a producer tells On Deadline they may end up featuring her case on the next edition of the show. You can submit a tip here.

Nothing - the most recent mention of Stepha that I could find was on a crime blog from October 2007. It is truly sad.

Thank you Savannah.
Bless the Henry family.
Sylvia Henry refused to entertain the possibility of her daughter's disappearance remaining unsolved. She said she talks with Miami-Dade police detectives on average three times on weekdays.
"I allow them to rest" on weekends, she said this past week.
"I'm still hopeful," the mother went on. "I'm still praying and hoping."

Man arrested in Florida disappearance of New York woman
MIAMI (AP) -- Detectives on Tuesday arrested a man suspected of killing a New York woman who was last seen more than seven months, authorities said.
Kendrick Williams, 32, was arrested in New York City after forensic tests on his car linked him to the victim, police said.
Williams was expected to be charged with second-degree murder in the death of Stepha Henry, who disappeared in May, authorities said. No body has been found.
No details are being released on the exact nature of the evidence found in the car, Miami-Dade police spokesman Robert Williams said.
Henry, who would have turned 23 in September, and her 16-year-old sister, Shola, came to Florida just before Memorial Day to celebrate Shola's birthday. They stayed with relatives, who last saw Henry on May 29 getting into a black sedan driven by a man.
That night, Henry had talked to her mother by phone, telling her she was getting ready to go to a nightclub. Her family has said she had made friends in South Florida during numerous visits to the area.
Miami-Dade County police said Williams was the driver of the black sedan. During the investigation, Williams told detectives that he had left the club early but that Henry decided to stay, officers said.
Detectives impounded the car, and analysis revealed evidence that linked Williams to Henry, police said.
There was no immediate indication when Williams would be transferred to Florida.
It was not immediately clear how Henry and Kendrick Williams knew each other or where Williams made his permanent home. Detectives from Miami were in New York interviewing Williams, Miami-Dade police spokesman Alvaro Zabaleta said.
"This investigation is far from over," Zabaleta said.

There will be more news as this case unfolds. I appreciate any updates. Stepha Henry had her whole life ahead of her. She was devoted to helping people through the criminal justice system. Her parents and family are the epitome of grace and dignity. May they find the answers they are looking for, and have comfort knowing their love is admired by many.

Florida Police: 'Significant Blood Evidence' Led Them to Murder Suspect in Killing of N.Y. Woman
Tuesday , January 15, 2008
Miami detectives said that a "significant" amount of blood found inside the car of 32-year-old Kendrick Williams led them to charge him Tuesday with second-degree murder and tampering with evidence in the killing of New York native Stepha Henry.
Henry disappeared in South Florida in May while she was away for Memorial Day weekend.
Williams was initially picked up on a traffic violation in June but was arrested "without incident" for Henry's murder after authorities found him sleeping in a vehicle in a Brooklyn, N.Y., parking lot said James Loftus, assistant director of the Miami-Dade Police Department, in a news conference Tuesday afternoon.
Williams was arrested after forensic tests on his car linked him to the victim, according to Loftus, who said that it was "substantial evidence" found in the car — which he characterized as "significant blood evidence" — that investigators conclusively traced to Henry.
"We believe she was murdered by the subject," Loftus said Tuesday.
No body has yet been found, but the investigation is continuing and Williams is being questioned, according to Loftus.
Miami-Dade County police said Williams was the driver of the black sedan, an Acura Integra. During the investigation, Williams told detectives that he had left the club early but that Henry decided to stay, officers said. He denied owning or driving an Acura Integra, said Loftus.
But detectives impounded the car, and analysis revealed evidence that linked Williams to Henry.
"We know she was in that car with Williams and other people at some point that evening," said Loftus. "We know she may have been in the car more than once that evening."
He pointed out that detectives have never said Henry was murdered in or near the nightclub, contrary to various media reports. He declined to offer details about where the killing took place.

Question;
Could this mean the guy arrested drove from NY to Fl and possibly disposed of Stepha anywhere along his way back to NY?

Suspect In Stepha Henry Case Extradited To S. Fla.
POSTED: 10:37 pm EDT May 16, 2008
UPDATED: 11:37 pm EDT May 16, 2008
Authorities in New York extradited the suspect in the disappearance and slaying of Stepha Henry to South Florida on Friday.
Kendrick Williams, who is accused of murdering the South Florida tourist, tried to fight extradition in New York. He was brought to a county jail in northwest Miami-Dade County Friday night.
The 32-year-old was arrested on Jan. 15 in Brooklyn and charged with second-degree murder.
Henry was a college graduate who met Williams while she was vacationing in South Florida in May 2007, police said.
Her disappearance drew national attention. Family and friends said she was a 2006 honors graduate of John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York.
Last Memorial Day, Henry and Williams were seen together in a video recorded inside Pepper's Café, a Sunrise nightclub. It was the last place Henry was seen alive, police said.
Henry's mother and loved ones rallied together week after week, passing out fliers in hopes of finding Henry alive.
In September, authorities said they found the vehicle in which Henry and Williams left the club. Police said they found a large amount of Henry's blood inside the car.
Four months after recovering the car, authorities apprehended Williams in New York and charged him with Henry's slaying.
Police have not found Henry's body, but they said they will be able to litigate the case without it.
Henry's mother, who lives in New York, said she wasn't aware that Williams was back in South Florida. She said she was happy to hear that the proceedings are moving along, and she said she will be in South Florida when the trial takes place.

S. Fla. Woman Says 2 Daughters Connected To Stepha Henry Case
POSTED: 5:50 pm EST January 17, 2008
UPDATED: 10:06 pm EST January 17, 2008
MIRAMAR, Fla. -- A South Florida woman said both of her daughters are connected to Stepha Henry, a woman who has been missing since May.
Related Content: Video
One of Angela Body's daughters was Henry's best friend. The other is married to the man recently arrested and charged with Henry's murder.
"It has changed my life," Body said. "It has made me depressed. I'm very upset. For this to engulf my life, I don't think it's fair."
Body said she was afraid to show her face on camera. Her son-in-law is charged with killing the 22-year-old college student.
"There's nothing in this whole world that she could've done to deserve it, for Stepha to deserve it, for her mom to deserve it, for her little sister to deserve it," Body said. "Me and all my daughters are hurting."
Her daughter hosted a Memorial Day barbecue at her Miramar home on May 28. Body said that was where Henry met up with 32-year-old Kendrick Williams before the two headed off to Pepper's Nightclub in Sunrise together.
That was the last place Henry was seen alive.
"Maybe she met someone," Body said. "Maybe she's angry and she doesn't want to answer her phone. (My daughter) told me, 'No, Mommy. Stepha is not like that. Stepha wouldn't do something like that.'"
As people passed out fliers in search of Henry, Body said she told her daughter to move to New York out of fear for her life.
Williams also made his way to New York, where he lived out of a car under a bridge to hide from police.
"He was a person of interest from before; let's not kid ourselves," Body said. "He was the only person of interest. So, it's not a surprise to anybody if they arrest him. He was always a person being investigated."
In September, police located the Acura Integra that Williams allegedly used to drive Henry to the nightclub.
Inside the car, investigators said they found key DNA evidence that they said proves Henry was murdered and that Williams was the killer.
Body helped with that investigation, and she said she will continue to do so despite her connection between the victim and the prime suspect.
"Everything I know, I've provided to them," Body said. "I will always do that until the end without bias because I know somebody is missing."

Kendrick Williams’ Past Coming Out
Posted by Stephen McCaskill on January 17th, 2008
After his arrest in New York for the murder of Stepha Henry, Kendrick Williams’ past has started to open up.
Little was known about the 32-year-old at first. He was a family friend of the Henry family, but no specific signs that he and Stepha had any romantic involvement. At the time of his arrest, he was found sleeping in a Nissan Maxima and police believe he was living in the car, traveling back and forth between Florida and New York.
Williams is a Virgin Islands native, a coincidence considering that Stepha Henry and her family were from the island nation of Trinidad.
The car that has been the center of the investigation turns out to be an Acura Integra that Williams purchased in New York and drove to Florida.
Williams also had a previous run-in with another woman in his life; his ex-girlfriend, Kamesha Roye. They had once lived together in New York and have a son together. In May 2005 Roye called police and reported that Williams was harassing her, calling her home over 70 times. She had her number changed and told Williams not to visit her anymore.
On May 11, 2005 he came by the house. He pried open the back patio screen door and then forced open a sliding glass door and entered the home. Williams then followed Roye into her bedroom and they argued until the police arrived, summoned by the silent alarm. The police tried to stop him but he ran from the home and escaped.
A year later he was found in Brooklyn, New York a year later and was extradited back to Florida where the charges of burlgary were reduced to trespassing. He was never convicted, only being required to pay court charges of approximately $26.
New Yorkers that knew Williams from his work with auto dealers also related another interesting fact about Williams’ recent history.
‘The rumor going around is that he wanted to sell the car,” Sol Antone, owner of the Clifton Auto Body said. “He wanted to sell it in a hurry. People have an idea when you want to get rid of something. Nobody wanted to buy it.”
The vehicle he was trying so desperately to sell was the same Acura Integra that police now have in their custody.
