Damn that's harsh. I have known a few people with pancreatic cancer, none survived one year from the date of diagnosis. Wishing him luck to beat the odds.

Swayze told to quit cigarettes

DOCTORS have had to ORDER PATRICK SWAYZE to give up cigarettes in their battle to treat his pancreatic cancer.

The Dirty Dancing star has so far refused to kick his habit despite the diagnosis in January.

The 55-year-old actor and keen pilot is such a heavy smoker that in 2001 his plane crashed after the altitude controller became blocked with tar.

He once admitted to getting through more than three packs of fags a day.

A third of pancreatic cancer cases are linked to smoking.

But yesterday his doctor George Fisher said he was “optimistic” about Swayze’s chances, despite early reports saying he may have just weeks to live,

Dr Fisher said: “Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far.

He said reports of his prognosis were “untrue” and added: “We are considerably more optimistic.”

Patrick Swayze 'Thrilled' by His Response to Cancer Treatment
By Mike Fleeman and Julie Jordan

Patrick Swayze has had an "excellent" response to treatment for pancreatic cancer, the actor and his doctor said Tuesday.

"We're thrilled and grateful for the positive response Patrick has shown towards his treatment," the Dirty Dancing star and wife Lisa Niemi tell PEOPLE.

"Also, we can't help but feel that all the prayers, meditations and good thoughts sent his way by everyone has made a difference. Thank you!" said the couple.

His physician, Dr. George Fisher, added: "Patrick Swayze continues to respond well to his treatment for pancreatic cancer. Because of his excellent response, he will continue the same therapy at Stanford."

Swayze, 55, announced last month he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, one of the most serious of the cancers. He has been undergoing chemotherapy but not radiation treatment, according to his rep.

Patrick Swayze looks grey and gaunt as battle against cancer takes its toll
Last updated at 17:15pm on 4th May 2008

Desperately ill actor Patrick Swayze looked just a shadow of his former self as he went shopping this week.

The 55-year-old, who is battling cancer, appeared grey and gaunt and even a pair of sunglasses could not hide the ravages of the disease and months of treatment.

Swayze, the star of Ghost and Dirty Dancing has vowed to live as normal a life as possible and was pictured defiantly going to the shops near his ranch on the outskirts of Los Angeles.

But reports suggest he is preparing for the end, apparently transferring his property worth millions to his wife of 32 years, Lisa Niemi.

A source said: "Patrick told Lisa, 'I will always love you, and can't imagine how my life would have been without you'. It was very touching, and it's part of his final farewell to his wife as the end draws closer."

Patrick, battling pancreatic cancer, has had emergency surgery - the cancer had spread and part of his stomach was removed.

His friend told a Sunday newspaper: "Patrick told his family he's not giving up, but he wanted to make sure everything like the will was in place in the event that his health began to fail quickly and he didn't have time to take care of things."

Patrick's Dirty Dancing co-star Jennifer Grey, 48 told The People: "I wish him all my love, and I have great faith that he is a fighter."

Patrick Swayze Makes First Public Appearance Since Cancer Announcement

Sunday , May 25, 2008

"Road House" star Patrick Swayze, 55, made his first public appearance since announcing in March he is battling pancreatic cancer.

Swayze took time off from his grueling chemotherapy regimen to take in Friday night's NBA playoff game in Los Angeles between the Lakers and the San Antonio Spurs.

Sitting with his wife of 32 years, Lisa Niemi, Swayze watched as the Lakers won in a blowout, 101-71.

Although Swayze's usually ripped physique seems somewhat shrunken by his fight, he appears to be holding his own against the usually aggressive cancer that often kills within weeks.

Swayze, the son of famed choreographer Patsy Swayze, rose to stardom on the romantic allure of 1987's "Dirty Dancing," and later scored big with "Ghost" in 1990.

Patrick Swayze is doing well - or as well as one with pancreatic cancer can.

The actor has released a statement on his health and overall frame of mind, and he's keeping positive and reacting well to treatment.

Says the Dirty Dancing alum:

"Thought I'd give you guys a little update. Lisa and I have been back and forth from New Mexico enjoying the arrival of spring and new baby calves. This past weekend, we spent a fun time with friends in Reno for Lisa's birthday, where I took her jewelry shopping at Kenny G & Company and (we) were able to find her something really special and much deserved! In the meantime, I am continuing treatment at Stanford and the great news is I continue to respond well."

Patrick Swayze: 'I'm A Miracle'

Patrick Swayze was spotted departing from LAX airport on Sunday looking healthy and happy as he headed off to film his new TV series in Chicago.

The 'Dirty Dancing' star was all smiles after enduring months of treatment for pancreatic cancer, reports The NY Daily News.

While walking through security, a photographer approached the actor and asked about his health. He replied, "I'm a miracle dude, I don't know why."

Swayze flew into the Windy City to begin shooting the A&E drama "The Beast."

"I can't wait to work on this," he told the New York Times last month.

The 55-year-old stars as an unorthodox FBI agent with a problematic past. A&E execs said they decided to greenlight the show based on reports from Swayze and his doctors.
