Ed McMahon sues over neck injury
LOS ANGELES - Ed McMahon is suing a Los Angeles hospital and others over a neck injury he said has left him unable to work.
McMahon filed suit in Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday against Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, two doctors, and the owner of a home where he says he fell and broke his neck.
The former "The Tonight Show" sidekick claims Cedars-Sinai discharged him with the injury, and that the stairs a home where he was attending a dinner party in March 2007 were unsafe.
The hospital did not have any immediate comment.
The lawsuit gives new insights into the neck injuries McMahon discussed in a recent appearance on "Larry King Live." McMahon said he fell behind on mortgage payments because he was unable to work as a pitchman.

Ed McMahon Goes Back to Work – with Jimmy Kimmel
Ed McMahon, whose recent money woes have been a topic of national news coverage, has found employment.
Johnny Carson's longtime Tonight Show sidekick is exercising his pitchman pipes by delivering a series of comical commercials for Pontiac cars that will be aired starting Monday on ABC's late-night Jimmy Kimmel Live, the Associated Press reports.
"It felt very good to be out of the brace and working again," McMahon, 85, said Friday, referring to the brace he requires after undergoing a third neck operation. (He is suing over his injury.) "I spent my whole life doing commercials, so here I was back doing a commercial again. It was very comforting. Believe me."
The four commercials were shot Thursday. "I went in like a professional to do a commercial, like I've done a million times in my life in my long career," McMahon said. "That's what I went in to do. Of course, we had fun with it. There's one where Kimmel's locked up in the trunk, and I'm pretending to be Jimmy Kimmel. It was fun, but we're still selling a product."
Repeating his recent mantra about his and his wife Pamela's financial survival, McMahon also said, "I'm optimistic. I feel we're going to get this straightened out. I look forward to those days."

Creditor sues Ed McMahon, wife, over $250,000 loan
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Ed McMahon is being sued by another creditor. Westmoore Lending of Huntington Beach, Calif., sued McMahon for more than $275,000 it says the pitchman and former "Tonight Show" sidekick owes from a 2006 loan
A growing number of creditors say McMahon and his wife Pamela owe them money. The other actions have targeted debts incurred for the couple's Beverly Hills home, prescription drugs, credit card debt and attorneys' fees for his daughter's divorce.
The lawsuit filed Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court does not specify what the McMahons borrowed the money for, but claims they defaulted on the loan in early 2007.
A spokesman for McMahon said Monday that he hadn't seen the lawsuit yet

Trump to buy McMahon's home, let him live there
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — Donald Trump will soon be Ed McMahon's landlord.
Trump announced Thursday he would save the television personality's Beverly Hills mansion from foreclosure by buying it for an undisclosed amount and leasing it to McMahon.
The developer told the Los Angeles Times he doesn't know McMahon personally, but acted out of compassion because helping out "would be an honor."
McMahon, 85, who was Johnny Carson's sidekick on the "Tonight" show for three decades, has not worked for about 18 months because of a neck injury. He defaulted on $4.8 million in mortgage loans with Countrywide Financial Corp.
McMahon's spokesman, Howard Bragman, told The Associated Press that paperwork on the sale had not been completed but that McMahon was "very optimistic" the deal would go through.
"When I was at the Wharton School of Business I'd watch him every night," Trump told the Times. "How could this happen?"
McMahon bought the six-bedroom, five-bathroom, 7,000-square-foot house in January 1990. The home was listed at $4.6 million last weekend — down from a peak price of $7 million.

Ed McMahon finds home buyer, avoids foreclosure
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Television celebrity Ed McMahon has finally found a buyer for his multimillion-dollar Beverly Hills mansion, avoiding a foreclosure that would have made him among the most high-profile victims of the U.S. housing slump.
The buyer of the six-bedroom, five-bathroom home was not disclosed, but McMahon spokesman Howard Bragman said on Friday it was not billionaire Donald Trump. The New York developer had said last week he was in discussions to buy the house and lease it back to McMahon after widespread publicity about the celebrity's default on his $4.8 million mortgage.
"It's a confidential deal, and the buyer wants anonymity, but I can tell you it is not Mr. Trump -- and it's not John McCain," Bragman said, joking about the Republican presidential hopeful's admission this week that he did not know how many houses he and his wife own.
McMahon, 85, famous for his "Heeeeeeere's Johnny" introduction to "The Tonight Show" star Johnny Carson for 30 years and for hosting the TV talent show "Star Search," has been trying to sell the house, valued at $5.75 million in June, for about two years.
His mortgage lenders filed notice of default in February, when McMahon was about $644,000 in arrears. He has blamed his financial problems on having broken his neck about 18 months ago, preventing him from working.
McMahon's foreclosure problems highlighted the extent of the U.S. housing downturn and credit squeeze that has seen hundreds of thousands of less affluent Americans lose their homes.
According to figures from property tracking company RealtyTrac, one on every 464 U.S. households received a foreclosure filing in July -- a 55 percent increase from July 2007.
