Phil Spector, Round Deux: Will There Be Cameras in the Cour
So far, not one media outlet has stepped up and filed a motion to have a camera in the courtroom for the retrial.
My co-blogger donchais posted the following message on Trials & Tribulations:
| Quote: | I know many folks who avidly followed (ok, gave up their lives for six months) the Phil Spector trial only to be disappointed with the hung jury. The consolation was a retrial would take place. Well, now we know Part Deux will not be covered - yup, the media outlets have turned their backs on the audience. What they consider “old news” is important and of interest to a great many of us.
What we need to do is get our voices heard and very quickly!
There are two things we can do immediately:
One, go sign the petition for coverage of the trial – Petition
Secondly, it’s not as crazy as it sounds, but in speaking to some industry people, it is possible a production company will provide coverage on a pay-per-view basis. It ain’t cheap! The number of folks who would be willing to pay monthly for the coverage would determine the cost – could be $30 per month or with a larger group, could be as little as $15 per month – kinda like CourtTV, way back when.
This is strictly limited to the Spector trial. Leave a message here so we can gauge what kind of interest there is! We very well may be able to get this done, but your quick response will dictate what happens. We have a source!
Are you willing? Leave a message HERE so we can gauge what kind of interest there is and get it put in motion!! |
We need to collect your comments/potential interest on T&T so we can forward them to the industry people. Please let us know!
Thank you!

Hey Sprocket,
I certainly hope there will be cameras in the courtroom, I can't wait to see the second round of the Spector case. Is Alan Jackson again the prosecutor?
Wouldn't KTLA broadcast it, they did also last year and are now doing the O.J. trial also. So I'm sure there will be some broadcasting...

KTLA got their feed from . . . Court TV. They did not have independent cameras in the courtroom.
The base operating costs to put cameras in this trial, (meeting Judge Fidlers demands of the cameras mounted on the wall behind the jury box and hidden behind boxes with smoke glass) are . . . get this . . . 30,000 a month.
That's what we've heard from our media contacts. This is how much it would cost to put cameras in that courtroom.
There's no news organization that wants to shell out that amount of cash for a trial that may go on for five months again.
So, there is a possibility that some might be interested, if the public is willing to pay to see it. T&T has been assured that there will be NO PROFIT made off of this. The cost of the pay per view/month would depend on how many people showed an interest.
1,000 people: 30.00 a month
2,000 people: 15.00 a month
See?
So, if you think you might be willing to pay to see this trial only, drop us a comment on Trials & Tribulations and sign the petition!
Thanks!
