I thought it was a great interview. Loved the closeness between the two of them, and loved the importance of family values.
He's my hope... and, she's going to be one hell of a First Lady!
There was an interesting tension dynamic between them in the 60 minutes interview. For example in Michelle's comment about his doing dishes or getting the kids off to school.
I get the sense that she, like with Hillary's failed health care initiative, is going to try to make her political mark as first lady, and that it is going to be problematic.
As for President Elect Obama, I get the sense that he is purposely being very laid back about taking any policy initiatives now, letting Bush take the heat in his remaining days for how to deal with the economy and Iraq's demand that we get out of their country on schedule.

President-elect Barack Obama and his wife Michelle were definitely very down to earth. I had to smile when he used the word "man" several times in addressing correspondent Steve Kroft. Then him saying that he is going to miss going for a walk. Michelle wasn't concerned about being able to walk because she doesn't do that anyway.
Additionally, the discussion about his first apartment and frugal beginnings. Wasn't there also a quip about not arguing with his MIL, adding he was smart and that is why he has become the President. They definitely touched the heart strings of the average citizen. I wonder how they both afforded to go to Hartford?

I watched it earlier on cbs site too. Liked it a lot. They are very thoughtful. I liked during the first part Obama said he'll close guantanamo and begin bringing our troops home from Iraq. And how regarding the economy he wants his team to move beyond liberal or conservative ideology and keep trying things to see what works best. In the second part I loved how Michelle mentioned being a mother as her highest priority. And working with the community where she will live.

Isanah- Both of the Obamas had student loans for Harvard (and undergraduate school) which they just recently finished paying off.

TY. They have been very impressive, it should be very interesting to see what comes the next four years. Obama has now inherited the highest of burdens of the world upon his shoulders. I bet he does think "what have I gotten myself into"!

Isn't that the truth, if he pulls us out of the mess we are in he will go down as one of the greatest prez's ever. If not, things get even worse we'll never hear the end of it from the "I told you so" crowd. He is in a bad situation I would not want his job.

That is true ! He'll do fine! He is thoughtful, energetic, asks for advice from a variety of people & has good head on his shoulders. We are praying for him & wish him the best. God bless the President-Elect & his lovely family!

Don't expect me to like Obama just because he got elected. I will cut him down every chance I get just like the democrats did with Bush. I try to support him, but I haven't seen anything, but hype and hysteria. He's a showboat and the last thing we need is a President and First Lady who love the spotlight. The campaigning is over. No need to sell his self anymore. He's already put out enough lies and bullshit. He needs to start acting like a responsible mature adult now who is capable of leading this country.
Tell me, GM, were the Dems alone in their criticism. It seems to me that a whole lot of moderate Republicans and Independents also recognized his inadequacies at the time that he took office and throughout his tenure. I thought that you were not a Bush supporter, and you only voted for him because he was the lesser of two evils or did I misunderstand your previous posts?
