Morgan Freeman Injured in Car Accident

Actor Morgan Freeman was injured in a car accident in Mississippi on Monday, TMZ.com reported.
The accident occurred around 11:30 p.m. near the small town of Ruleville. Freeman, 71, was airlifted from the scene to a hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
The “Dark Knight” star was accompanied by an unknown female, TMZ reported. Her condition is unknown.
MyFoxMemphis spoke to Bill Luckett, Freeman's friend and business partner, who said that the actor was sitting up and talking.
Officials at Regional Medical Center at Memphis — known as "The Med" — confirm Freeman was brought there last night and is a patient. Representatives from the hospital said his condition was "serious" but did not offer further comment.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the accident.
Freeman is an Academy Award-winning actor, film director and narrator.

JACKSON, Miss. -- Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman has been injured in car accident in Mississippi and is in a hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
Regional Medical Center spokeswoman Kathy Stringer says Freeman is in serious condition.
The hospital, commonly known as The Med, is an acute-care teaching facility that serves patients within 150 miles of Memphis.
Ashley Norris, manager of the Ground Zero Blues Club in Clarksdale that is owned by Freeman, confirmed the 71-year-old actor was in a wreck. Norris said she had no other details.
The accident apparently occurred in Tallahatchie County Mississippi, but the sheriff's department referred calls to the Mississippi Highway Patrol. A highway patrol spokesman wasn't immediately available for comment.

Academy Award-winning actor Morgan Freeman was listed in "serious" condition at a Memphis hospital Monday following a late-night car crash in rural Mississippi.
The accident occurred around 11:30 p.m. Sunday near the small town of Ruleville, MyFOXMemphis.com reported. Freeman, 71, was airlifted from the scene to Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn.
According to Freeman's publicist, the actor has suffered a broken shoulder and arm and appears to be in a bit of pain.
Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Ben Williams confirmed Freeman was in a wreck shortly before midnight Sunday, but said he was still gathering information and had few details Monday.
Clay McFerrin, editor of Sun Sentinel in Charleston, said he arrived at the accident scene after it happened about 4 miles west of Charleston, not far from where Freeman owns a home with his wife.
McFerrin said it appeared that Freeman's car was airborne went it left the highway and landed in a ditch.
"They had to use the jaws of life to extract him from the vehicle," McFerrin said. "He was lucid, conscious. He was talking, joking with some of the rescue workers at one point."
McFerrin said bystanders converged on the scene trying to get a glimpse of the actor.
When one person tried to snap a photo with a cell phone camera, Freeman joked, "no freebies, no freebies," McFerrin said.
Freeman won an Oscar for his role in "Million Dollar Baby." His screen credits also include "The Shawshank Redemption" and "Driving Miss Daisy."
Morgan was accompanied by an unknown female, according to Web reports. Her condition is unknown.

So that's who he was driving! Meet Demaris Meyer, the passenger in Morgan Freeman's smash-up late last night.
From what we can gather, 48-year-old Meyer is from Memphis, works as an executive assistant at Fed-Ex and is an avid gardener. One source tells us that Meyer is a very close friend of Morgan's wife Myrna and is often seen at their house for get-togethers.
Freeman was driving Meyer's 1997 Nissan Maxima in rural Mississippi when he lost control and the car flipped. Meyer was treated for her injuries and released.

Just days after being in a serious car accident with a female family friend, ET confirms that the Morgan Freeman divorce rumors are true. His friend and business partner Bill Luckett confirms to ET there is a divorce pending between the actor and his wife of more than 20 years, Myrna Colley-Lee.
Late Sunday night the renowned actor was in a car accident in Mississippi and airlifted to a hospital in Memphis. He is said to be doing well after undergoing surgery Monday to repair damage to his left arm and hand.
The surgery "lasted approximately four and a half hours including recovery and he is in good spirits and was visiting with family members this morning," Donna Lee, Freeman's publicist, said in a statement Tuesday.
"He was walking this (morning), and is looking forward to his release as soon as possible," Lee said.
Freeman, 71, and Demaris Meyer, 48, of Memphis, Tenn., were involved in the accident on a dark stretch of rural Mississippi Delta highway in Tallahatchie County.
State troopers said the car careened off the highway and flipped end-over-end before landing upright in a ditch. Rescuers used a jaws-of-life machine to free "The Dark Knight" star and Meyer from the wreckage of the car

Sorry, but I'm not buying that he and the woman that was in the accident with him are only friends. He was driving her car and they were going to his house. They had been friends for a very long time, but she didn't know the way to his home? 
I would bet they are a couple and have been for a very long time. Maybe that is the reason he is getting a divorce.

ET confirms Morgan Freeman has been released from the Memphis hospital where he was airlifted Sunday night following a serious car accident in Mississippi.
"I left the hospital today just after 12 noon, Memphis time," Freeman tells ET exclusively. "I'm doing very well. I feel real good. I just really, I thank the staff at Elvis Presley [medical facility] and many, many thanks to my many well-wishers. It's great to know people care about you."
