it sure was a great day and what a wonderful outcome. love rags to riches and am thrilled that Calvin proved himself as a real powerhouse jockey not a fluke, while the unknown trainer is now someone to reckon with. The horse himself ran a superb race, to bad he is a gelding.

The gelded son of Birdstone began his journey at Woodbine with Cotey taking a shot -- and not an expensive one -- on a horse who was far from perfect.

"He 'toed out' a little bit and he didn't exactly stand straight at first," Cotey said of the youngster's build, which in part led to his bargain price.

"He was not the most correct in terms of conformation but there is a great temperament to him."

Under saddle, he was far more fond of the fillies than of running at first, which prompted Cotey to have the colt snipped of his manhood.

Great pictures! Thanks to everyone.

I did not watch the Derby but I'm glad it was a great day for everyone. Would have liked to participate in this thread, love the wonderful horses, like hunting for those fabulous hats but real life came in the way.

Calvin Borell deserves it too. His first derby win didn't exactly lift him to star jockey status..the poor guy from the LA bayou, but this week he won the oaks at 20 lengths and then did a technically superb job of taking his horse from behind to win by 3 or 4 lengths. The horse did the job when he was out in front...Calvin got her there. He should have the reputation of a prado or desormeaux, he has left them in the dust enough!

Image Glad you liked them

My pleasure EVERYONE!!!
