Good Lord, a young person posing for pictures? The horror.

I guess the next legislation, coming from the Washington bureaucrats, and Obama regime, will be poking their beaks into pictures folks have developed at those evil Walgreens. :?

Federal judge killed in shootings laid to rest

TUCSON - More than 1,700 mourners filled the pews at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church to capacity on Thursday morning at the funeral of Federal Judge John McCarthy Roll, who was killed in the Tucson shootings Saturday.

The congregation included Arizona senators John McCain and Jon Kyl, former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, Gov. Jan Brewer, former Vice President Dan Quayle, and many court staffers - from bailiffs and clerks to judges - who came from across the state.

Hundreds more were turned away, but remained standing outside the desert church, wearing suits and waiting for the ceremony to end so they could pay a form of respect with their presence.

"He's a hometown boy that made good," said Michael Massee, 48, a city attorney in Benson who clerked for Roll from 1994-1996. He said that Roll, who was 63, liked to hire veterans, was proud when his son joined the Navy, and asked his staff to work as hard as he did. "He was a patriot," Massee said.

Roll grew up in Tucson, attending elementary school at St. Peter and Paul Catholic School and high school at Salpointe Catholic High School. He attended the University of Arizona for both his undergraduate and law degrees. He worked his way slowly up the bench.

"He deserved every promotion he ever received," Massee said. "He gave the rest of us hope that we could achieve some level of success too."

The hearse bearing the judge's body approached on Interstate 10 from the north, passing so many symbols of Tucson: Mexican tile murals and artistic wrought iron suns on freeway overpasses. The procession, flanked by 12 police motorcycles in straight, pristine rows, passed exits named Orange Grove and Sunset on its way to the church.

As they pulled up at the church, 17 "white angels" were on hand in case there were protesters, but none were present. Bystanders watched in silence, lining the street in front of the church, where small barrel cactuses bloom in yellow.

Pallbearers included his sons, Christopher, Patrick and Robert. The smiling picture of Judge Roll on the funeral program illustrated why mourners heard an instrumental version of "When Irish Eyes are Smiling" playing inside the church. Strains of bagpipes floated out into the street.

Roll was the kind of man who had the same secretary for 20 years, said hi to all his neighbors, and stopped to talk to them when he walked his two basset hounds in the mornings.

"I can see him coming down the street, stopping and talking," says George Kriss, 70, who lived near Roll for more than 20 years. He didn't know Roll was a judge until 2009, when Roll explained the presence of United States marshals in the neighborhood after he received death threats on an incendiary case.

When Kriss found out that Roll was a judge, he thought, "How could this guy be a judge? He didn't seem like he was mean enough," he said.

During the service, Father John Lyons told of growing up with Judge Roll. The two attended school together from elementary to law, and apparently had plenty of mischievous days as young boys when they would land in the principal's office together.

Others offering remembrances included Federal Judge James A. Teilborg, U.S. District Judge Cindy K. Jorgenson, and Richard Weare, clerk of the United States District Court in Arizona.

Ed Roll, John Roll's brother, recounted the Roll family tradition of going to Lake Roosevelt each year, which Judge Roll's wife, Maureen, liked to call "the vacation from hell" because it was always so hot.

Despite this annual transgression, neighbors and friends commented on Roll's constant joy when he was around his wife, who went back to school for her master's degree after their children were grown and worked in Catholic Social Services assisting with adoptions.

"When they were around each other," Massee said, "They were both just sparkling. They were in the presence of their best friend."

Giffords off ventilator following procedure

Doctors performed a procedure Saturday morning that helps protect U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords' airway but frees her from a ventilator that she's been on since being wounded in a shooting a week ago.

Doctors removed a breathing tube from the 40-year-old Arizona congresswoman and replaced it with a tracheotomy tube in her windpipe, according to an update from University Medical Center.

Giffords has been breathing on her own for several days, but doctors kept the breathing tube in place as a precaution, Dr. Peter Rhee, University Medical Center's chief of trauma, said Friday.

Surgeons also inserted a feeding tube to provide nutrition to the wounded congresswoman.

Both procedures are not uncommon among brain-injured patients in the intensive-care unit, according to the report. Giffords is still listed in critical condition.

Another shooting victim, James Tucker, was discharged Saturday, leaving only Giffords and two other victims of the Jan. 8 rampage as patients at the medical center.

Susan Hileman and George Morris remained in the hospital Saturday. Both were listed in good condition.

A week after Giffords was shot in the head at point-blank range in a rampage that left six dead and 13 wounded, she continued to improve significantly and is able to track with her eyes and has the ability to move her arms and legs, doctors reported Friday.

Wednesday marked the first time that Giffords opened her eyes spontaneously. On Thursday, she began a physical-therapy routine after showing doctors she could lift both arms and legs when held upright by medical staff.

Unfortunately, the nutjob in this case seems to have come from an environment that would embrace the likes of Palin and Limbaugh. His father was unemployed and by neighbors' accounts, hateful and very angry at the world.

You're welcome. I pointed it out because you keep comparing Palin to the delusional killer, and Palin might quote the constitution & love guns, but is not anti-government.

More like the extreme wingnut tree. Doesn't matter right or left, either way he was (using your favorite adjective) delusional.

Palin and the killer targeted the same politician for elimination. No matter how you lamely try to spin it, that fact is the common denominator between Palin and the killer. Palin isn't anti-government, she's anti anyone who doesn't agree with her.

Death threat at ABC-TV Town Hall event Saturday

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) -The meeting room at St. Odilia's Catholic Church on the city's northwest side was packed with local dignitaries, witnesses to the mass shooting Jan. 8, some of the witnesses to the shootings and the first responders to the scene for a taping of an ABC-TV special, a town hall event, at 11 a.m. Saturday. Host of the program, This Week, is Christianne Amanpour. The show will air at 7 a.m. Sunday on KGUN9-TV.

Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was shot in the head at close range last Saturday by a lone gunman. She survived. A total of six people were killed. Nineteen were shot.

Jared Loughner, 22, a former Pima Community College student, is the sole suspect in the shootings. He is in FBI custody.

Toward the end of the town hall meeting Saturday morning, one of the shooting victims, J. Eric Fuller, took exception to comments by two of the speakers: Ariz. state Rep. Terri Proud, a Dist. 26 Republican, and Tucson Tea Party spokesman Trent Humphries.

According to sheriff's deputies at the scene, Fuller took a photo of Humphries and said, "You're Dead."

Deputies immediately escorted Fuller from the room.

Pima County Sheriff's spokesman Jason Ogan said later Saturday that Fuller has been charged with threats and intimidation and he also will be charged with disorderly conduct.

Among the dignitaries at the town hall taping were Mayor Bob Walkup, U.S. Rep. Raul Grijalva and former Congressman Jim Kolbe.

ABC News dubbed the town hall, "After the Tragedy: An American Conversation Continued."

A press released stated that the event will restart the conversation that Giffords began. "Among those who will join the Town Hall: family members of victims, citizens who took heroic action and community leaders," the press release stated.

A KGUN9 News crew was at the town hall. KGUN9 will air a report on KGUN9 News Saturday at 5 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Saturday's 10 p.m. newscast will be a one hour 9 On Your Side special report entitled, "One Week Later."

Man wounded in Tucson shooting arrested at meeting

A victim in the mass shooting in Tucson attending a special town hall today was arrested after his outburst at another man who spoke in support of gun ownership.

The Pima County Sheriff's Office said it arrested Eric Fuller, 63, who was wounded in the knee a week ago in the shooting rampage that killed six and wounded 13. He was being held Saturday for alleged threats of intimidation and disorderly conduct and will undergo a mental-health evaluation.

The incident took place near the end of a taping of ABC's weekly "Town Hall" with news anchor Christiane Amanpour.

The program, which airs Sunday and is called "Tragedy in Tucson: An American Conversation Continued," reunited many victims, initial responders to the shooting scene and witnesses. Open to the public, the forum at a Catholic church was designed to promote conversation and healing a week after the grocery-store shooting.

Most of the of taping was calm and at times emotional as witnesses recounted the events in which a gunman opened fire at a local Safeway, killing six and wounding 13, including U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

Toward the end of the taping, Amanpour brought up the issues of gun safety and mental health. As one member of the audience stood up and expressed his support for gun ownership, Fuller, seated near the front in an area reserved for victims and special guests, appeared increasingly frustrated and agitated.

Fuller then swiveled in his chair, raised his camera and took a photo of the pro-gun speaker, muttering, "You're dead," according to Joel Tranter, who was sitting behind him.

"I told him, 'You need to be respectful. You need to calm down,'" Tranter said. "He said, 'What'd you do, vote for this guy?'"

As police officers approached to escort Fuller outside, he turned and shouted at the audience: "You whores!"
The rest of the taping continued without incident and wrapped up about five minutes later.

Outside, Fuller was arrested for making threats, said Capt. Byron Gwaltney of the Pima County Sheriff's Department.
"He's currently in our custody and we're in the process of dealing with that investigation to see what charges will be made," Gwaltney said.

Fuller's actions could be a response to the trauma he suffered a week ago, said Dr. Laura Nelson, deputy director for the behavioral health sciences division at the Arizona Department of Health.

"Grief after what happened here in Tucson last week is a completely normal reaction, and ... anger is a very common symptom of grief," said Nelson, who had been invited to speak at the forum. "I hope that he'll get the help that he needs to get through this very difficult time."

Fuller, who works as a signature collector for political initiatives, was about 10 to 15 feet away from Giffords, talking to her volunteers, when the shots erupted on Jan. 8. He said earlier this week he was hit by a bullet when he dove to the ground to play dead. He decided that because he didn't have any medical training to help others, he walked to his car and drove himself to the nearest hospital.

About 100 people attended the taping, which took place at St. Odilia Church less than a mile from the Safeway where the shooting occurred.

Among the guests were Patricia Maisch, Bill Badger and Daniel Hernandez, who were attending Giffords' event when the shooting occurred; Bill Hileman, husband of Susan Hileman, who was wounded in the rampage; U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Floirda, a friend of Giffords', and Rick Kastigar of the Pima County Sheriff's Department.

AZ Shooting Victim Arrested For ‘Death Threat’ To Tea Party Leader During ABC News Townhall

Merely a week after a crazed gunman shot Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords in the head and left several others dead and wounded at a local political event, a Tea Party spokesman in the same area received a public death threat at a town hall meeting– from one of Jared Loughner’s victims.

Local station KGUN is reporting that Eric Fuller a 63-year-old military veteran who was shot in the back last Saturday while attending Rep. Giffords’ “Congress on Your Corner” event, became enraged by the statements of some of the participants at the town hall events and threatened the life of Tea Party spokesman Trent Humphries. This is how the scene is believed to have played out:

Toward the end of the town hall meeting Saturday morning, one of the shooting victims, J. Eric Fuller, took exception to comments by two of the speakers: Ariz. state Rep. Terri Proud, a Dist. 26 Republican, and Tucson Tea Party spokesman Trent Humphries.

According to sheriff’s deputies at the scene, Fuller took a photo of Humphries and said, “You’re Dead.”

Deputies immediately escorted Fuller from the room.

Fuller is being charged with threats, intimidation, and disorderly conduct according to authorities. He has been profiled by CBS and has publicly blamed Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, and Sharron Angle for inciting the violence that caused the events of last Saturday. The town hall meeting is scheduled to be aired tomorrow on ABC– whether this incident will make it to broadcast is yet to be seen, though, oddly, ABC News has yet to report on this incident.

The initial report of the events at today’s town hall via Fox News below, and below that, Fuller’s previous comments on Beck, Palin, and the Tea Party:

Wrong. Palin's bulls-eye target of Giffords was for defeating her in the Nov. elections, not eliminating her from life. And I am not lamely trying to spin it. You're the one trying to connect the two.
