Casey Anthony: ‘48 Hours Mystery’ looks at defense strategy

Postby Last_Rodeo » Sun Apr 10, 2011 3:31 pm

Defense attorneys Jose Baez and Cheney Mason discuss the Casey Anthony case in a “48 Hours Mystery” to air this coming Saturday on CBS.

The program, reported by Troy Roberts, also features defense forensic experts and former defense attorney Linda Kenney Baden. George and Cindy Anthony, Casey’ s parents, are interviewed as well.

Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee. The program gives a look at the defense strategy for the trial, which starts in May.

A CBS News spokeswoman said the experts question whether Caylee was even murdered and the attorneys address speculation about a possible new suspect.

The program airs at 1O p.m. April 16 on WKMG-Channel 6.

I'll be glad to hear about the defense strategy at trial. I plan to tune it.

From what I've read, the mock jury finds her not guilty, so defense strategy should be interesting.

The trailer on 48 Hours website shows what appears to be a mock jury asked to stand if they would vote not guilty if ONLY a 1st degree murder charge could be voted on. It looks like most of the jurors were going to stand, but the trailer may be deceptive.

I'm curious if we'll hear anything more from the Defense team than we've already heard. So far, nothing they've offered has been convincing.

I'm especially intrigued over how the DT will handle Casey's stories about the non-existent Zenaida the nanny being responsible for kidnapping Caylee.

That and the fact that she did not report Caylee missing for those 31 days, and spent those 31 days partying, will be VERY difficult for the defense to handle, imo. I don’t see how those things can be adequately explained away.

The entire idea of such a mock jury is ludicrous at best, considering the judge has yet to rule on several key evidence issues.

Not much interest/discussion about this case here, it seems.

Casey Anthony trial: Focus group 'acquits' Anthony on CBS show
Segment will be part of '48 Hours Mystery' on forensics evidence

Hal Boedeker, Staff writer
5:58 p.m. EDT, April 12, 2011

CBS' "48 Hours Mystery" returns to the Casey Anthony case with a twist this weekend that is causing a furor: The program asks an Orlando focus group if it would acquit the young mother of first-degree murder.

The result of the jury-like group: CBS says most of the 12 people would acquit.

The program's unusual approach is "shameful," said Al Tompkins, an instructor at the Poynter Institute, a school for journalists. "We have a system in the United States that works pretty well. It's a system of discovery, of hearings, of cross examinations, and it's worked pretty darn well for a long time. We have no business trying this case."

Anthony, 25, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee. The trial is scheduled to start in May.

"We wanted to do a focus group in the place where it had the most coverage," said Susan Zirinsky, executive producer of "48 Hours Mystery." "The results are shocking."

Defense attorneys Jose Baez and J. Cheney Mason are interviewed in the hour. But they were not involved in the focus group, although they know the outcome, CBS News said. Details about the focus group will be revealed on the show at 10 p.m. Saturday on WKMG-Channel 6.

The focus group illustrates the issue of finding an impartial jury, and the results suggest one can be found, even in Orlando, Zirinsky said. --->>

What evidence did that jury hear?

Will manslaughter even be an option for the jury to select from?

Mock jury indeed. Emphasis on the word "mock".

Just more media hype ramping up in advance of jury selection and the impending trial.

We lost Court TV or TruTV (whatever it's called now) in Canada, so I'm at a loss to know where I'll be able to view the day's proceedings on a taped basis. Will HLN be covering it? I hear rumblings of that on evening HLN broadcasts but not sure if it will merely be highlights rather than full coverage.

Who produced this little "mock" trial and chose jurors? Could it be an agent of the defence team perhaps?
