Court convened promptly at 08:00 and immediately went into sidebar where they've been for the last 8 minutes.

Looks like they don't want the public at large to be privy to their submissions.

The hearing, mostly conducted in sidebar, ended with Judge Jose Rodriguez saying the court will assign a new judge to preside over the civil case brought on by Zenaida Gonzalez, the woman who said Casey ruined her life after claiming a nanny by the same name took her daughter, Caylee, in 2008........

Casey Anthony’s attorneys are appealing her guilty charges related to her criminal case, Central Florida News 13 reported this morning.

Shortly after 9 a.m., News 13’s Jacqueline Fell said the move could have a huge effect on Anthony’s civil case and any other future cases.

An emergency hearing this morning on Zenaida Gonzalez’s defamation suit ended quickly and Judge Jose Rodriguez announced he was stepping down.

“Another bizarre turn,” Fell said. “Another judge will be assigned to the case.”

Anthony’s civil attorney, Charles Green, would not comment, Fell said.

Gonzalez says her life was ruined when she was linked to the disappearance of Caylee Anthony by the child’s mother, Casey Anthony. Casey Anthony was later acquitted of first-degree murder in the child’s death.

Gonzalez’s attorneys at Morgan & Morgan said they did not file the motion for the judge to step and had hoped to get a deposition with Anthony done, Fell reported.

Casey did not make a formal guilty plea to the lies she told LE that formed the basis for counts 4,5,6 and 7 of the indictment but through her counsel the defence admitted that all things to do with Zanny the Nanny were false hence conceding the facts in counts 4,5,6 & 7. What's the basis for their appeal, I wonder?

Is it unreasonable to assume that the appeal of the guilty verdicts on those counts is being filed entirely as a way of defeating answering any questions in the civil suit? So long as Casey has criminal charges pending one way or the other before the court, she can claim the protection of the Fifth Amendment. All's fair in love, war and legal proceedings, I guess.

Somebody tell us why this judge is stepping down? Judge shopping?

For unknown reasons, the judge in the civil lawsuit against Casey Anthony recused himself from the case on Friday.

Judge Jose Rodriguez made the announcement shortly after the 8 a.m. hearing began. Zenaida Gonzalez, who shares the same name as a fictitious baby sitter whom Casey Anthony said kidnapped her daughter, Caylee, in 2008, is suing Anthony for defamation.

The move came after Anthony's attorney called for a sidebar, where attorneys from both sides talked with the judge for about 15 minutes.

Gonzalez's attorney said he did not request the recusal.

I say that is the reason for the appeals also. I don't see any way that she can win the appeal as it was proven that she did lie. It does however buy her time to keep from answering any questions. Slick move by the defense.

They also wanted it to be only one offense instead of 4 - which would mean she would only owe 1k instead of 4k, for one thing.
