Casey Anthony's Lawyer I QUIT!

Postby gwen » Wed Jan 11, 2012 5:55 pm

Casey Anthony is on her own ... 'cause the attorney who got her off murder charges has decided to REMOVE HIMSELF from Anthony's legal team.

Anthony first hooked up with Jose Baez while she was in jail -- and heard other inmates raving about his work.

It's unclear why Baez tendered his resignation ... though it's rumored the two were having a falling out after Anthony's private video diaries surfaced online.

Story developing ...

Jose Baez Quits As Casey Anthony's Attorney

After standing by her side throughout her controversial murder trial, Casey Anthony's high profile lawyer Jose Baez has called it quits.

Orlando-based defense attorney Baez has opted to no longer represent Anthony, reported EOnline.com, after her bizarre video went viral last week.

According to the New York Post, 25-year-old Casey was actually getting ready to fire her long-time lawyer because she was angry over the way he was handling the media circus surrounding her first post-trial interview.

Baez is the second of Anthony's lawyers to leave in as many days.

On Tuesday, Dorothy Sims, the member of Casey's defense dedicated to appealing her fraud conviction, filed paperwork in an Orlando court seeking to remove herself as the client of record for the case.

Not only is Anthony cleaning shop in her legal team, she's also reuniting with her estranged mother, Cindy. "They are talking," a source told E! News
.

A request for comment from Jose Baez Law was not returned at this time.

Casey Anthony Regains Her Mother, Loses Her Lawyer

Despite the apparent leak of her video diaries, Casey Anthony remains in hiding. But that doesn't mean she's all alone.

A source close to Anthony tells E! News that after months of disconnection, Casey is now back in contact with her mom Cindy.

But does that go double for dad George?

Unfortunately not.

While Casey had cut off contact with both of her parents in the lead-up to her trial last summer, she has yet to resume communication with her father.

But as far as her mother is concerned, a source close to the family tells E! News, "They are talking."

In the first stream-of-consciousness video that surfaced last week, Casey goes on for nearly five minutes, not once mentioning deceased daughter Caylee. After that initial clip hit the Internet, her parents' lawyer released a statement saying, "They are concerned that the release of this video or any future videos could endanger their daughter. Cindy and George hope that Casey remains safe wherever she may be."

However, while mom is now back in the fold, Anthony's attorney is out—albeit of his own volition.

Jose Baez, the Orlando-based defense attorney for the viral video diarist, has opted to no longer rep Anthony, making him the second of the controversial 24-year-old's lawyers to bow out of her case.

E! News has exclusively learned that Dorothy Sims, the member of Casey's defense dedicated to appealing her fraud conviction (the crime she's currently on probation for), filed paperwork in Orlando court yesterday seeking to remove herself as the client of record for the case.

So, what's behind the double departure?

A source familiar with the situation tells E! News that Anthony remains unwilling to undergo psychotherapy.

"Dorothy and Jose have been trying to get Casey to go into therapy, but she refused to do it," the source said. "Jose has become a parental figure in her life and she doesn't want to be told what to do. And he's done with it. The big issue is the therapy issue. He believes very strongly that if she doesn't get help she can't truly move on."

However, not all of Anthony's lawyers have abandoned ship, as defense team member and sound bite machine Cheney Mason is still on board. Here's hoping he can handle pulling all that extra weight
.

I thought that therapy was a term of her probation, but then so is having a job. Why is she still on probation if she is not following the terms of her probation???

This should get really interesting as the 2 narcissists try to take each other down. Baez may live to regret ever taking Casey on as a "client".

Well, well, well, the rats are abandoning the sinking ship. Guess with Mason's hearing problem, he wasn't able to hear the "abandon ship" announcement.

It probably won't be long now b/f the trollop is back on Hopespring. I have sympathy for all the neighbors anywhere near them.

Since I believe the trollop was planning to 'get rid' of George and Cindy, I wonder how long it will be b/f "an intruder" murders them?

Cheney is an old fool. That was obvious from the start.

I've wondered if he is the one footing her bill now. Someone has to be and he seems like the likely sucker.

As for Cindy and George, they deserve whatever comes to them. IMO

It seems Florida just turns a blind eye to whatever she does, or doesn't do, as far as her probation is concerned. With her attitude and sense of entitlement, I doubt it will be very long b/f she does something to warrant being arrested again.

Each and every person who had anything to do with this travesty, deserves whatever happens to them. I just hope it's excruciatingly painful for each and everyone of them.

Jose Baez has quit Casey Anthony, according to report

Jose Baez has quit Casey Anthony, TMZ.com reports.

Baez was not returning calls to the Orlando Sentinel today. TMZ.com cites no sources in its short report, but says that Baez “has decided to REMOVE HIMSELF from Anthony’s legal team.”

Note the capitalization.

TMZ says it isn’t clear why Baez quit, yet Baez has talked to TMZ in the past.

The Daily Beast and The New York Post have reported this week that Baez and Anthony had a falling-out, that a shake-up was coming and that Anthony wants Cheney Mason to be her media rep.

In July, Anthony was acquitted of murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee.

Why does she need a media rep? If she didn't 'do' videos, no one would even talk about her................which would kill her. I believe it was Ashton that said the worst thing that could happen to her is everyone just ignoring her.

Casey Anthony: Jose Baez is ‘over it,’ setting up practice in Miami, Geraldo Rivera says

We don’t know definitively that Jose Baez has left the Casey Anthony case, but Geraldo Rivera has provided insight into good pal Baez on Fox News Channel.

“Jose did express to me … that he’s over it,” Rivera said last night, referring to the legal proceedings. Rivera interviewed Baez on Sunday’s edition of “Geraldo At Large.”

Baez’s home has been foreclosed and he has departed Orlando to set up his practice in Miami, Rivera told Shepard Smith. Baez “has to go on with his life,” Rivera said. “I think it’s fair to say he wants to move on.”

There have been reports that Baez and Anthony have had a falling-out, because he was unable to negotiate a big TV interview for her. But Rivera said the lack of an interview was not Baez’s fault.

“The guy has sacrificed for three years to represent this client to the best of his ability,” Rivera told Smith.

Insights from mental-health professionals who examined Anthony prompted discussion on NBC’s “Today” and ABC’s “Good Morning America” this morning. Those depositions were unsealed on Wednesday.

“GMA” titled the segment “Inside the Mind of Casey Anthony.” Forensic psychiatrist Michael Welner said of Anthony, “She’s a strategic thinker, but she so frequently contradicts herself that it’s impossible to tell when she’s lying and when she is not.”

On “GMA,” ABC legal analyst Dan Abrams noted that the seeds of the defense’s case could be seen in Anthony’s comments to shrinks. “The defense makes arguments that are sort of consistent with what she’s saying,” Abrams said.

But HLN’s Nancy Grace lashed out at Abrams: “You are putting perfume on the pig. What the defense did was they looked at all their choices and they picked the defense that suited them the best.”

What about the reported split between Baez and Anthony?

“It’s not altogether surprising,” said NBC’s Savannah Guthrie on “Today.” “I don’t think Casey Anthony has too many people she’s connected to in her life.” “Today” also called its segment “Inside the Mind of Casey Anthony.”

Grace’s take? “She says, ‘I fired him.’ He says, ‘I quit.’ Whatever.”

Report: Jose Baez Off Casey Anthony

Cheney Mason Talks To CNN's In Session

POSTED: 6:12 am EST January 20, 2012
UPDATED: 6:20 am EST January 20, 2012

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Casey Anthony and Jose Baez have apparently cut legal ties.

Cheney Mason reportedly broke the news to CNN's In Session about Anthony's legal team on Thursday.

Mason claimed Baez stopped representing Anthony the day she was sentenced.

Mason said he and Lisbeth Fryer represent Anthony with her appeal and probation.

In July, a jury decided Anthony was not guilty of killing her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee. She is currently serving one year of probation in an unrelated check fraud case.

It's official: Jose Baez withdraws as Casey Anthony's lead attorney

ose Baez has officially withdrawn from Casey Anthony's defense team, online clerk's records show.

According to the Orange County Clerk of Courts, Baez's notice of withdrawal was filed Tuesday, weeks after reports about his deteriorating relationship with Anthony first surfaced.

On the Clerk of Courts website, Baez's name, still listed in the "Lead Attorneys" category, has been crossed out. No one else was listed on the site as of Tuesday afternoon.

Baez famously represented Anthony, 25, in her high-profile murder trial. She was acquitted in July of all major charges in the 2008 death of her daughter, 2-year-old Caylee Marie.

Anthony is currently serving a probation term for check fraud and appealing convictions for lying to law enforcement. Her location while on probation is being withheld for her safety.
Orlando Dunkman: Make him shoot, pass and of course dunk!

Baez still faces a pair of Florida Bar complaints stemming from the case, one of which involves his failure to share discovery information with the prosection as the trial loomed.

Though it was just made official, Baez's exit was reported more than a month ago. Co-counsel J. Cheney Mason later told In Session Baez was off the team the day Anthony was sentenced.

Jose Baez cleared of complaints to Florida Bar

Tuesday, February 28, 2012

ORLANDO --
The Florida Bar says that former Casey Anthony lead attorney Jose Baez has been cleared of all complaints filed against him in the case.

The grievance committee found no probable cause and voted 7-0 to dismiss all complaints.

Concerning the investigation, the Florida Bar issued the following statement:

The Florida Bar has concluded its investigation of two cases involving attorney Jose Baez and after a thorough investigation by a grievance committee composed of lawyers and non-lawyers, and with their unanimous vote, the cases have been closed without discipline.

However, in one case the grievance committee also issued a letter of advice indicating that while Mr. Baez’s conduct did not warrant formal discipline, the committee believed his conduct was not consistent with the high standards of the legal profession.

The Florida Bar is responsible for the review of every incident in which it appears that a member of the Bar may not have complied with the professional responsibilities set forth by the Florida Supreme Court in The Rules Regulating The Florida Bar. In these two cases, news reports brought these matters to the Bar's attention.
The letter of advice contained the committee's concerns regarding instances of failure to comply with discovery orders, which they believe was unintentional, but said every attorney has an obligation to ensure compliance to court orders. Read the full letter by clicking the links in the More Info box.

Baez said in a statement:

“Much has been made about the claims filed against me. I am glad to see the grievance committee was fair and thorough in their decision.”

Too bad Cindy can't see or doesn't want to see that Casey is only using her so she will testify at the civil hearing on Casey's behalf.

I agree, Cindy has whatever is coming to her. I can only hope that a horrible ending awaits the both of them.

Casey and Baez have not got along for awhile now if their behavior in court is any indication. We saw they were having a disagreement while the jury selection was going on, then when Casey went ballistic behind his back in court soon before it ended. How I wish he would have taken her to the holding cell and backhanded her after she pulled that.
