State Department notified on June 1, 2005 -Natalee kidnapped

Postby jenna » Sat Aug 26, 2006 10:02 pm

From June 3, 2005 briefing at the State Department

QUESTION: Can you say anything about an American woman, an 18-year-old teen missing in Aruba? She's from Alabama. Her family believes that she's kidnapped. Have there been any discussions with authorities in Aruba or the Dutch Government?

MR. MCCORMACK: What I can share with you is that the Department learned on Tuesday, June 1st, that an American citizen was missing in Aruba. The citizen's name is Natalee Holloway and she was last seen on Monday night, I think, on May 31st. Natalee's family have arrived in Aruba and a consular officer from Curacao is in Aruba at this time and is in contact with the family. And we are making sure that we provide all possible assistance to the family and local authorities and would also note that the FBI is also on hand and cooperating with local authorities in the search effort. And beyond that, I can't really offer anything else, due to Privacy Act considerations.
Why don't we go in the back. Yes.

And dear Bobblehead and the "Panel" insisted last night on Greta that the FBI needed to be involved for the case to move forward. Why is it that this so called, well respected, intelligent panel of attorneys can't even get the few facts straight?!! Just boggles my mind.

Didn't Beth claim she contacted the FBI after being stopped by The State Trooper? I thought that was all part of her ridiculous State Trooper Story.

Does anyone have the unsanitized transcript of the Beth/Greta 2-part interview? June 19-20, I think. Beth gives the 'details' of her first bullshit story. Beth also states she slept for something like 60-70 hours straight after that first night's assault on the VDS home. She was covering her tracks for something. Was it the contact to meet with Natalee?

The transcript version posted now is highly edited.
"Beth is a completely despicable piece of pond scum. She calculated and planned this murder. Most likely expecting it to be someone she considered a 'throw away' human from the barrio."

Yes she did. I presume that's how the FBI got involved initially.

I can't remember the thread titles now, DD, but they were both started by Lazlo a month or so ago. There is some VERY good discussion on those threads about the 60-70 hours thing.

Yes, I remember seeing that interview when it aired. I too would love to see a complete transcript.

FBI was not exactly involved. The observed some interrogations and were disgusted. They had to fight for scraps of information, it was not freely given. ALE was not cooperating with the FBI or welcoming their assistance. For sure, the case aint moving forward in the hands of ALE, wouldnt you agree?

Curacao judge yet to rule on FBI access to Holloway case files

A judge from Curacao has not yet ruled on the FBI’s increased involvement in the case of missing Mountain Brook teen Natalee Holloway. Defense lawyers protested Aruban authorities’ decision to hand over transcripts of interrogations and other documents to the FBI. Transfer of the evidence occurred after Aruban Prime Minister Nelson Oduber asked the country’s attorney general to give the FBI more access to the case files.

The judge was expected to rule today but had not done so by the close of business, said Mariaine Croes, spokeswoman for the prosecutor’s office. She said that meant the decision would likely come Monday at the earliest.

The Associated Press

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — A Mountain Brook High School graduate disappeared during a senior trip to Aruba, FBI officials said Tuesday.

Special Agent Jeff Fuqua said Birmingham FBI agents were coordinating with FBI officials in the Caribbean to search for Natalee Holloway, who took the trip after her May 24 graduation. She never showed up for the group's return flight Monday, The Birmingham News reported.

"We have been made aware of the missing girl, and we're looking into the matter," Fuqua said.

Police in Aruba also said they were searching for Holloway.

Students said about 125 graduating seniors and adults took the five-day trip, which is an annual tradition not sponsored by the school.

"We went to check in for our airplane, and she wasn't there, and she's been missing since then," said Jay Weinacker, a member of Holloway's graduating class.

Officials at Mountain Brook Community Church said more than 150 people participated Tuesday in a prayer service for Holloway.

"Word just kind of got out, and parents and students just really wanted to get together and have a little prayer service for the whole situation," said Troy Gambrell, an associate in the youth ministry.

Holloway's family members declined comment, The Birmingham News reported.

No not at all.

There is nothing wrong with a suspect in Aruba protesting a foreign gvt getting details of an investigation. As far as they knew, the info would be handed over to Beth and miscontrued in the media since Beth has a way of whitewashing what she 'hears' and 'sees'.

In light of current news, it is the FBI that is witholding info from ALE. Now why would they do that, it's not their case!

UPDATED: 6:10 pm CDT June 1, 2005

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- A Mountain Brook High School graduate is still missing in Aruba.

Natalee Holloway, a graduate of Mountain Brook High School, disappeared during a senior trip. Holloway's parents David Holloway, of Meridian, and Beth Holloway Twitty, and several family members are expected to arrive in Aruba Wednesday to aid the search.

Birmingham FBI representative Special Agent Jeff Fuqua said his agency is coordinating with FBI officials in the Caribbean to search for Holloway. An FBI agent is currently in Aruba helping with the search.

Holloway took the trip with other graduating seniors and adults after her May 24 graduation. Other students said she never showed up for the group's return flight Monday.

Police in Aruba also said they're searching for Holloway.

Other members of her class say about 125 graduating seniors and adults took the five-day trip. It's an annual tradition not sponsored by the school.

The 18-year-old was last seen getting in a car leaving a nightclub early Sunday morning in Aruba.

The students who were on the trip aren’t discussing it, nor are they discussing Holloway. Approximately 150 students attended a prayer service for Holloway on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon at Mountain Brook Community Church.

"In my wildest imagination (I) can't see any good in this, and I don't even know anything that's going on other than that she's missing, and yet, God's very creative and very powerful, and that's (what) one of our prayers was about," said Mark Yoder, youth pastor. "Us, like a lot of other churches, had students on that trip, so we just said we'll open the doors. We met yesterday afternoon.”

Will Hollingsworth will be a Mountain Brook senior this fall. He said his friends who went on the Aruba trip with Holloway had a good time, but now they're all in shock because she didn't return home.

"I think it's really scary, especially something like that happening to somebody you know of,” said Hollingsworth. “Around here, stuff like that never happens. It's a big shock when something like that happens."

Holloway was active in many clubs in school, including the dance squad and the Spanish Honor Society. She was also on the honor roll in the 10th through 12th grades.

Why would the suspect oppose information being shared with FBI? If he's innocent you'd think he'd want the best and the brightest looking at it and finding the real perpetrator. I dont think there was ever a concern that the FBI would hand over confidential information to Beth. The FBI is not exactly known for that kind of thing. There appear to be some leaks in need of repair within Aruba, however.

I believe you're mistaken about what the FBI does or doesnt have. I hope Interpol doesnt delay.

Bachus:

At my request, and let me go back and tell you my involvement in the Natalee Holloway case The day that Natalee or the day or the day after Natalee missed her flight, the Holloway family contacted me as their congressman and asked if I would help them in the search for Natalee. I immediately asked if the FBI was involved and I don't remember at this late date whether they asked me to talk to the FBI or whether I suggested the FBI to them, but I did call our american representative in Aruba and talked personally with him. I found out that the procedure would be for the aruban government to request the help of the FBI. I immediately placed that call, talked to two members of the aruban government and within probably six (6) hours, and I think there have been varying reports in the news media, but within six (6) hours there was a formal request from the aruban government to involve, at least within six (6) hours I had information and confirmation that the aruban government had requested the participation of the FBI. That was reported in the Birmingham News and (inaudible)
