Why did Beth want to see the black jack videos?

Postby K Hemingway » Sun Aug 24, 2008 6:21 pm

I'll add some more hash to the re-hash.

Question - Why did Beth want to see the black jack table videos?

Beth's Book > The Call

Continuing to trade phone calls with the students who are waiting to fly out of Aruba, I get the tip we needed. The Mountain Brook students were at Carlos‘n Charlie’s on their last night on the island. Natalee had been there with her group. Dear God. Carlos‘n Charlie’s. The intuition yesterday after seeing the hugger. The very same nightspot a former student told us about where girls were being enticed to leave with men they didn’t know. The students say Natalee got into a silver or grey Honda with a young man who had befriended some of her classmates. One of Jug’s nephews, Thomas, says he actually met the guy Natalee was seen leaving Carlos‘n Charlie’s with. He said he played poker beside him at the Excelsior Casino, which is located inside the Holiday Inn, where the Mountain Brook group was staying. Thomas says this young man’s name is ‘Gerran or Juran or something like that.’ Thomas isn’t concerned the guy would do harm to Natalee. ‘H e just seemed like one of us, y’know…a regular guy. Like me.

The last information communicated from the students before they board their plane is that this Joran guy is a tourist from Holland. And he is staying at the Holiday Inn.

Beth's Book > Everyone Knows Everyone
Page 33

We try to figure out how to see what Joran looks like. If he isn’t a guest here, then we have to figure out a way to find a way to find him, so that once we locate the police, we will be able to show them who Natalee was last seen with. Jug’s nephew, Thomas, said he played cards with Joran in the casino. We ask if there are videotapes of the blackjack tables.

So if Thomas originally said poker, and they wanted to view the video to find out what Joran looked like, NOT TO LOOK AT NATALEE ON THE VIDEO as Beth said, why didn't they ask to see videos of the poker tables instead on blackjack tables?

Maybe they both played poker and blackjack ..?

---

"Scrolling through the videos we see images of Jug's nephew, Thomas and immediately call him. He tells us he was sitting with Joran at a blackjack table at the Excelsior Casino last night, Sunday night, before everyone went to Carlos N Charlies."

That doesn't explain this;

To the average book reader, who hasn't followed the case on the boards, it makes no sense.

We ask if there are videotapes of the blackjack tables.

This was BEFORE she called Thomas, as she says on pg 44.

NOT 'We asked to see videos of the poker tournament, poker tables, and black jack tables.'

Is the book just that poorly written?

Is that Thomas sitting next to Joran in the casino video?

'One of Jug’s nephews, Thomas, says he actually met the guy Natalee was seen leaving Carlos‘n Charlie’s with. He said he played poker beside him at the Excelsior Casino...'

Does that mean Thomas was at Carlos‘n Charlie’s and saw Natalee leave?

Or someone who was also playing cards with Joran and Thomas TOLD Thomas...she left Carlos‘n Charlie’s with the guy you played poker or black jack with with at a certain time?

Did Thomas only play cards next to Joran?

Joran van der Sloot was the guy that left with Natalee, from Carlos and Charlies. More than one person saw them at C n C's together and saw them together in the Kalpoe car. Joran is the person that the Kalpoe Brothers admittedly say they dropped off with Natalee Holloway at the beach.
Joran is the person that allegedly left her at the beach and Natalee Holloway has not been seen or heard from since.

If you have anything that indicates anything factually suspicous about Thomas Twitty..why not just post it? IMO - you are trying to create another FEB "there" in "there" when "there" really was no "there" to begin with anywhere.

Paulus couldn't recall if he was in a Texas Hold'em tournament or a Caribbean Stud tournament....that's odd considering how well he was playing --- heck he wasn't even eliminated before Joran and he was a frequent player. Or was that just a "poorly written" PV?

Who she left with wasn't my question. And I'm quite aware of your opinions.

Thanks for 'not answering' it anyway.

Anyone KNOW the answer to my question?

I was told he played the harmonica as well, and a couple of rifles but don't tell anyone.

I have no definite answer.
But it could be possible there was no video available of the pokertable.

Just a tournament with no real money involved.
Why would they bother to videotape it?

Not being a big card gambler myself, I call them all poker tables or card tables or whatever. If ever I made a statement while in a casino about the card tables, I hope no one would ever take me literally about the TYPE of card table I might mention. I would have no idea, nor would I care, what exact type they were.

Thanks....but...I just asked a question about something that made no sense to me. And I'm looking for a logical explaination.

I didn't indicate anything suspicious of anyone.... (unlike you and resigned are indicating suspicion of my question )

Anyone know the answer the the question?

I consider poker and blackjack the same. Blackjack tables are the game of 21 in poker. Wasn't it blackjack that Joran was playing after being eliminated from the Texas holdem game?

Vanity Fair

Some of her fellow students had noticed her talking with a tall Dutch teenager, and were under the impression she had left with him. The day before, Jug's nephew Thomas had played poker with the young man at the Holiday Inn's casino and thought his name was Joran something.

they wanted to see what Joran van der Sloot looked like, and the casino manager offered to find a video of his poker game the day before. When he did, Beth memorized everything about him: the close-cropped hair, the pimply face, the sloe eyes.

I don't know why this is such a big deal if you are not trying to point a finger at someone else other than Joran.

What is your point?

Poker isn't the same as blackjack. There are different types of Poker games...but "21" isn't going to win you anything as it would in blackjack. Poker is when you have a pair, 2 pair, 3 of a kind, straight, flush, full house etc etc

It's been my experience that you usually have to sign up or sign in for the poker tables in casino's - not so at the blackjack tables. They usually also have a seperate poker room that isn't in the middle of the casino floor with the rest of the tables. There are 3 and 4 card poker tables and carribean stud poker tables that are on the casino main floor...but that is a different type of atmosphere than sitting in the poker room playing Texas Hold'em or a more "traditional" poker game.

So if Thomas originally said poker,

Thomas may have said that he played poker with the same guy that the other students said was at the Blackjack table earlier where Natalee and the guy that looks like Paulus (but supposedly isn't) were sitting...and that was the guy(Jurran or Gerran) that Natalee was seen with in the Kalpoe car.

perfectly logical..eh? :D

Exactly. And it goes directly to me question of, why on pg 33 does it say,;

We ask if there are videotapes of the blackjack tables.

I have never heard of Black Jack being considered a game of poker, like Texas Hold em is....
