Oh how sad.

My thoughts are with his family who loved him very much..........
I wish them strength during this very difficult and sad time.

How sad!

He had to leave this world too soon. But he showed lots of courage and strength and put up quite a fight.

He will live on in his movies. He brought lots of joy to so many.

Rest in Peace, Patrick!

RIP, Mr. Swayze! I so hoped he would be able to beat this.

Oh to this day.......I LOVED that movie. Yeh, talk about crying!!! I should watch it again sometime.

That movie was my first "experience" with Whoopie Goldberg. I thought she was FANTASTIC. I laughed and laughed at her lines.

The late Dirty Dancing star Patrick Swayze has been cremated.

The star's ashes are currently being held at his lawyer's office, his death certificate states.

Is understood the remains will stay at the office until Swayze's wife Lisa Niemi arranges for them to be moved.

Website RadarOnline reports: "Patrick Swayze has been cremated and his wife Lisa is moving ahead with plans to scatter his remains on his New Mexico ranch."

It is unknown whether there are plans to hold a family memorial service for Swayze, who lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on Tuesday aged 57.

However, a public event is being planned in the town of Lake Lure, North Carolina, where much of 1987 movie Dirty Dancing was filmed.

The memorial service will take place on Sunday at Firefly Cove, used at Camp Chimney in the movie.

The ceremony is free to attend, but organisers want visitors to donate money to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

Patrick Swayze's Widow: I Will See Him Again

Patrick Swayze's widow Lisa Niemi spoke from the heart Tuesday about losing her husband just six weeks ago, telling a women’s conference that the loss “is like an animal all of its own” and the sadness could be felt “on a cellular level.”

"When the grief takes you, it's like your body is not your own,” Niemi, who was married to the actor for 34 years, said during a roundtable discussion on Grief, Healing and Resilience at the Women's Conference 2009 in Long Beach, Calif. “I'm just going with the flow. I know I have to go through it."

Speaking for the first time since Swayze's death, Niemi says she's relied on a close group of friends to get through some of her darker hours.

"I have a few girlfriends that are just amazing. They have made themselves available to me 24/7. They say, 'We don't care if it's 2 in the morning, call me'," says Niemi, her blond hair pulled back into a loose bun and wearing an all-black dress. "I was in the middle of a full-blown panic attack one evening ... and I picked up the phone and called one, which is really hard for me to do because I'm used to being so self-sufficient and taking care of myself, but the very act of picking the phone up to call someone helped to calm me."

Final Regret
Even though Niemi told Swayze many times every day in his last months, "I love you, I love you," and never left his side, she admits, "I've spent two thirds of my life with him. ... My regret is that I didn't tell him that I loved him enough over that entire 34 years."

"I am so grateful for what I had and my connection to him, and part of me believes that I will see him again," says Niemi, her voice breaking, "and I'm just going to have to go on until then."

Niemi was joined on-stage by Elizabeth Edwards and Susan St. James, both of whom lost children in accidents. The discussion, held before a crowd of 14,000, was moderated by California First Lady and Women's Conference host Maria Shriver, who this summer lost her mother Eunice Shriver and uncle Ted Kennedy.

Tsunami of Grief
Describing her feelings about their deaths and the "tsunami of grief" that has followed, Shriver told the crowd: "Grief cracks your heart into little pieces and that hurts, big time, big time. It's hard to concentrate, it’s hard to see, its hard to feel, it's even hard to breathe."

Despite how put-together she may appear on the outside, Shriver says, "Every minute of every day I can feel my broken heart. I tell all of those close to me, 'Don't worry, I'm fine, really, I am....' The real truth is I'm not fine. The real truth is that my mother's death has brought me to my knees."

Kelly Preston had agreed to join in the roundtable discussion and talk about the death of her son, Jett, but had to drop out. "Kelly called to say it was just too painful for her to talk about Jett," says Shriver. "She said the grief was still too debilitating for her. And I totally understood."

But for Shriver, Edwards, St. James and Niemi, the Women's Conference was the ideal forum for sharing their journey with others. "We all hope that this panel will help the grief-stricken among us to see that there is light at the end of what seems like an endless tunnel," says Shriver. "It is our hope that this conversation will give anyone out there dealing with a broken heart or a shattered soul a sense that you are not alone. Because you are not."

The Women's Conference 2009, hosted by Shriver and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, gathers more than 100 newsmakers and world opinion leaders with 25,000 women from all walks of life for to be "educated, inspired and empowered to be Architects of Change in their own lives, within their communities and around the world."

Swayze's Widow: His Drinking Made Me Leave Him For A Year

Postby olympic » Fri Oct 30, 2009 7:12 pm

Patrick Swayze and Lisa Niemi, whose marriage began in their 20s and lasted for 34 years, led one of Hollywood's storied love affairs – but the Dirty Dancing actor's widow reveals that there were times when their union teetered to the brink of breakup.

Six years ago, Niemi tells Oprah Winfrey in her first interview since Swayze's death, her husband descended into a period of heavy drinking and "very dark thoughts. "He was imploding pretty badly," she said during Friday's show, so much so that in 2003, Niemi left Swayze for a year. "I didn't think he was going to live through it and I didn't want to watch that."

But the couple reconciled and regained their happiness – only to be tested again when Swayze was diagnosed 22 months ago with pancreatic cancer and was told he had three months to live.

"It was mind numbing," Niemi says. When faced with the devastating information, "You think you're going to get these terrific illuminations," she says, but that didn't happen. "I looked around and I said, 'This is awful.' "

Niemi says she cried in front of her husband only once, and saved the rest of her tears for her close girlfriends. "I wanted him to know he was going to be okay," she tells Winfrey.

Final Days
Niemi, 53, and Swayze never talked about him dying. "We were too positive," she says. Swayze wanted to believe in God and Heaven but also had doubts. "He had this very realistic side," says Niemi. "He said, 'I can't be 100 percent sure, but I'm going to find out.' "

In his final days, Swayze was on pain medication and only minimally aware of his wife's presence. Niemi tells Winfrey she had seen death before, witnessing animals that the couple kept at the end of their lives. "I felt them leave their bodies and it's always been a light and free feeling because they were out of pain," she said. "I was wondering if I would feel the same thing with Patrick. And I didn't."

With Niemi at his side, Swayze, 57, died Sept. 14 at his ranch near Los Angeles. "I didn't feel him leave when he actually stopped breathing," she said. Now, she says, "I feel him here. I feel like he hasn't left. I can feel every contour of his hand in mine."

Niemi says that when Swayze starred in the hit movie Ghost, she thought she would never want to see the kind of visions that Demi Moore's character saw of her dead husband, played by Swayze, but that has changed. "Now I'm like, 'Please show yourself. I would love to see you.' "

Of the lessons she's learned since his death, she says, "It's the proverbial, 'Do it now,'" she said. "You end up living a lot more in the moment."

These days, she's "hanging in there," she says. "If I was really courageous, I would be open to the possibility that I could go on in life," she said. Swayze always believed in her, telling her how smart, beautiful and good she was. "I hope I can continue to prove that he was right about me."
